Murderer of Priest Nurtured Dreams of Jihad in Quiet French Town

A Year For The Record Books....or at least, MY record books.

Way Way Up at Fort McMurray Adventures - 21 minutes ago
I took advantage of yesterday's fine weather to stretch my legs and wander the Birchwood Trail system a little. It was my first time there since before the evacuation. I was hoping to spot just one more bird species to get my year list up to the magical 50 mark, a new record for me. The shade brought some welcome relief from the sun and the mosquitos were enjoying at as well. For the first half of my walk, other than a lone robin, all I seemed to see were mosquitos. My luck changed as I got down lower in to the valley and crossed Conn Creek. I hit a small section of trai... more »

Why Sarah Silverman Is A Comedian-- Guest Post By Sam Husseini

DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 22 minutes ago
In remarks from the Democratic National Convention stage applauded by big media, Sarah Silverman lauded the Democratic Party primary process as "exemplary." I guess that's why she's a comedian. Perhaps she doesn't know who Debbie Wasserman Schultz is. Perhaps she doesn't know that Schultz just resigned as head of the Democratic National Committee after the release by WikiLeaks of DNC internal emails showing evidence of them conspiring against Sanders. Of course, Schultz was then immediately named "honorary chair" of the Clinton own campaign. Schultz as "honorary" anything-- now t... more »

It's all about the $$$$$$$$

Bruce K. Gagnon at Organizing Notes - 32 minutes ago
Of course the Democratic Party will blame the Russians - it's all their fault! Any doubt who really runs America? It's the corporate oligarchy and their big bucks. It does not matter whether the prez is Hillary or Trump - the country is run by the bankster pirates, fossil fuel companies, the drug corporations, the military industrial complex, the corporate controlled media and the like. This election is a scripted three-ring circus sideshow. We need to send the nation a message by voting outside the box this time around. Anything else is just complicity with the corrupt sideshow.

Funeral for the Devil & His Weapon

Bruce K. Gagnon at Organizing Notes - 32 minutes ago
Seongju, South Korea residents’ funeral ceremony for the conservative Saenuri Party. Seongju has historically voted for the Saenuri Party in their elections. But since the ruling Saenuri Party's slavish decision to accept the US demand to deploy the THAAD 'missile defense' system in their community they have buried that relationship. A recent national poll reveals that: - 53.1%: support reconsidering or rescinding the decision of deployment of US THAAD in South Korea. - 60.2%: believes that the United States forced the decision of deployment of US THAAD on Korea.... more »

Not Forgetting Japan's Treatment of Korean Sexual Slaves

Bruce K. Gagnon at Organizing Notes - 32 minutes ago
Yesterday the three of us in our VFP (Veterans For Peace) delegation to Korea attended the weekly protest of the 'comfort women' across the street from the Japanese embassy in Seoul. There was a large crowd of mostly high school and college students who were protesting the Japanese abduction of 200,000 Korean women during WW II when the young girls were used as sexual slaves for their troops across the Asia-Pacific. Today only 40 of these women are still alive but they continue to demand a public apology from the Japanese government, appropriate compensation and an end to Tokyo's ...more »

Quote of the Day: Choosing in ‘The Year of the Low Bar’

Peter Cresswell at Not PC - 1 hour ago
*“The [big] picture is that Clinton and Trump are two of the most flagrantly dishonest, corrupt, power-hungry, unprincipled cronyists ever to seek the Presidency. Thus, in 2016, the Year of the Low Bar, Gary Johnson does not have to be George Washington or even Ronald Reagan to earn my vote. He merely has to be not evil. Behind West's Biased Coverage of Asia

*July 28, 2016 *(Tony Cartalucci - NEO) As the US loses ground in Asia, between its failure to coerce states to adopt its Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal, and its inability to garner greater support for its manufactured crisis in the South China Sea, it has doubled down on efforts to undermine and replace governments in the region it perceives as obstructive to its regional *"primacy." * Paramount to this process of undermining and removing governments, is the targeting and manipulation of public perception. Today, I (the blogger) amplify Paul Craig Roberts’ piece below. In his second paragraph he provides a link which he says “The person who prepared this …is a bit crude in his language, but his point is nevertheless sound.” However, when I went to this link I spent maybe 15 or 20 minutes watching the video of that person, whose language I thought was OK but who might well have edited out a lot of stuff without losing the high points. I was about to leave this link when I realized that the work of a second photographer of the alleged truck massacre was to follow. It was at a different location and did seem strange. Then there were additioal amateur photographers displaying their work. I think it was the third one that was truly revealing. This woman found herself exactly alongside of the parked truck that was supposed to run over many people a few moments later. This place was not very far from the small town to the west where the truck was supposed to have come from. Yet in this moment it was surrounded by several individuals dressed as police who instead of approaching the truck were looking westward toward where truck had come from. The woman exhibited on her video several times the presence of fireworks in that direction, but she had no sound. However, she overlaid the official gun fire from the TV news, which indeed sounds like fireworks. Later on she checked the differing times of fireworks in the general area and found that the town from which the truck had come was to begin it’s fireworks at that very moment. Of course the official story was that the police told everyone ahead of the (still-parked) truck to run for their lives because there were shots being fired, thus leaving the fireworks/gun-shots behind them, as seen in the official videos. So it is no wonder that “the powers that be” are insisting that all evidence be destroyed. Moreover, if hundreds of family members and friends were actually killed, by now they would be demonstrating in the streets demanding justice. Is that happening? No! I can’t believe that so many people prefer to believe that they are attacked by foregn “terrorists”, when the terrorists are actually our own governments. I leave you with this thought: “Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.” -- Thomas Jefferson

Oreo Necklace

We might have a slight Oreo obsession in our house. These delightful chocolate cookies are the perfect treat with a glass of milk, or in my case, a jar of peanut butter. My girls are always delighted when Oreo Cookies make their way into our shopping cart and we all have our favorites. My girls go for Double Stuffed, you are most likely to find me with a package of Golden Lemon Oreo Cookies and my husband with mint. Oreo Cookies are as iconic as they come and my daughter wanted to commemorate her love for her favorite snack with a cute bubble necklace. This necklace is really easy... more »

In fact, it would still have been correct if he had said it in 1776. The U.S. has never been a democracy. It has always been ruled by the wealthy and for the wealthy, starting with George Washington. Native people were murdered and Mexico (and Canada) were invaded to steal the land for land speculators. About the only promise Hillary Clinton has made in her whole life that's got a chance of coming true is her unspoken mantra of, "I'm not Trump." And even that's veracious only in the most general and abstract of ways. Beyond that, I'd run my hand under the tap and check for myself if Clinton announced that water was wet. One of the many, many unspoken narratives during this convention, indeed this entire shambles of an election cycle, is that Hillary Clinton owes a lot of people.
