Poland’s Position as the “Next Ukraine”
While Western governments and the Western media continue clinging to the hope of an eventual “victory” for Kiev’s forces in Ukraine, the “frontline” is quietly being moved back to western Ukraine and even Poland just across the border. Recent pledges by NATO as well as arms deliveries this year and next appear to be headed in the direction of using Poland as the next battering ram with which US-led NATO will use against Russia. read more

What Presidents Say Does Not Matter. It Is The Execution Of Policies That Counts
Yesterday, on July 28/29 2022 three independent entities stated the obvious fact that the president of the United States is just a front puppet who has no power to fulfill the promises he makes during various interactions with foreign leaders. The dangers evolving from this state are enormous but rarely noted. read more

“Neighbours, Everybody needs diverse neighbours”
Thursday's *Newsnight* marked the end of the sunny Australian soap *Neighbours*. Saturday Snippet: One of the finest historical novelists in the world is being republished
I was almost giddy with delight this week when I learned that the novels of the late Rosemary Sutcliff are being republished, and in e-book form, too. She acquired worldwide fame for her children's, young adult and adult historical fiction, winning many awards in the process. She published more than 50 books during the course of her life. Her personal tragedy was also, I think, the wellspring for her creativity. She suffered from juvenile idiopathic arthritis from an early age, which confined her to a wheelchair. She lived with her mother for most of her life, and never mar... read more

Don’t say we didn’t warn you – Symposium of China’s top think tank sends classic, pre-war warning to provocative Pelosi
"Don't say we didn't warn you!" - a phrase that was used by the People's Daily in 1962 before China was forced to fight the border war with India and ahead of the 1979 China-Vietnam War, was frequently mentioned during a forum held Friday by a high-level Chinese think tank, as analysts warned that open military options and comprehensive countermeasures ranging from the economy to diplomacy from China await if US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi gambles with a visit to the Taiwan island during her Asia tour. read more

My Body Is Not Your Capital-Producing Machine – Or Is It?
There are three basic freedoms: freedom to say NO; freedom to move away; and freedom to change what does not work. Individual freedom requires social support. To say NO, you need others to respect your choice and not force you to obey. To move freely, you need others to support your movement and not erect walls and roadblocks. To change what does not work, you need others who are affected to accept the change. read more

Why Hitler and Stalin Hated Esperanto, the 135-Year-Old Language of Peace
I do not know Esparanto but that does not matter. What is good is that it is easy to learn and can be used to introduce language training itself if we ever get that right. At present, for sound historical reasons our universal second language is English not least because of its massive legacy for scholarship. Before that it was German by the by, then french and before all that it was Latin for centuries. Universal education is now upon us. All children are given foreign language training. Perhaps all such training needs to be integrated with Esparato. Then all pick up expa... read more

The Challenge of ‘Twilight Asteroids’
[image: The Challenge of ‘Twilight Asteroids’] We have the Zwicky Transient Facility at Palomar Observatory to thank for the detection of the strikingly named ’Ayló’chaxnim (2020 AV2). This is a large near-Earth asteroid with a claim to distinction, being the first NEO found to orbit inside the orbit of Venus. I love to explore the naming of things, and now that we have ’Ayló’chaxnim (2020 AV2), we have to name the category, at least provisionally. The chosen name is Vatira, which in turn is a nod to Atira, a class of asteroids that orbit entirely inside Earth’s orbit. Thus Vatira ... read more
