An interesting question. my own experience tells me that feral cats are mostly the males and so long as we keep the pressure on by neutering them we approach reasonable control. We do need tracking programs and actual prey stats. I do think that the majority of prey kills are rodents easy to surprise and catch. Taking on birds is likely almost recreation.
