Why Atlantans Are Pushing To Stop ‘Cop City’
On Sept. 8, the Atlanta City Council gathered after listening to nearly 17 hours of comments from over 1,100 constituents across the city. The flood of messages concerned one thing: a proposed $90 million police militarization training facility known among locals as “Cop City.” The renderings of the facility include a mock city for officers to train in, as well as a helicopter landing base, new shooting ranges, burn tower sites, and more. Its development is being spearheaded by the Atlanta Police Foundation and two-thirds of the funding comes from “philanthropic” and corporate don... read more

Bill Would Empower Parents To Remove Books From School Libraries
A bill proposed by a Republican state senator in Oklahoma would empower parents to have books that discuss gender identity removed from public school libraries—a measure that rights advocates warned could have life-threatening consequences for LGBTQ+ children across the state. Under Senate Bill 1142, introduced earlier this month by state Sen. Rob Standridge, just one parent would have to object to a book that includes discussion of "sexual perversion, sex-based classifications, sexual identity, or gender identity" and other related themes in order to begin the process of removal.... read more

In Remembrance Of Chuck Kaufman
Tucson, AZ - It is with heavy heart that the news of the passing of longtime anti-imperialist organizer Chuck Kaufman reached communities on December 28. Born in a small Indiana town, Chuck’s life saw travels to numerous countries, most notably in the Latin American countries most firmly in the crosshairs of U.S. imperialism. In 1987, as Reagan’s illegal Contra War against Nicaragua ravaged the country in an attempt to kill the successful Sandinista Revolution, Chuck answered the call for solidarity. He gave up his advertising business and joined thousands of other U.S. solidarity... read more

Thousands of Amphetamine Pills Seized at Lebanese Port
*Trevor Filseth* *Drug Trafficking, Middle East* Lebanon is often a point of transit for narcotics from Syria, where the regime of Bashar al-Assad has engaged in industrial-scale illicit drug production to raise badly-needed funds for the country’s civil war, into the oil-rich nations of the Gulf, where the drugs are typically consumed. Lebanese security forces have uncovered an attempt to smuggle nine million pills of Captagon, an amphetamine drug popular in the Middle East, through the port of Beirut. "Thanks To Omicron, The Price Increases Of 2022 Will Be More Painful Than Anything We Have Experienced Before"
*"Thanks To Omicron, The Price Increases Of 2022 Will* *Be More Painful Than Anything We Have Experienced Before"* by Michael Snyder "Most people simply do not understand that we really are moving into a long-term economic emergency. So much of the economic optimism that fueled rallies in the financial markets throughout 2022 was based on a belief that the COVID pandemic would soon be brought to an end. Well, that obviously has not happened. After everything that has been done, the COVID pandemic in the United States is now worse than ever. In fact, on Wednesday there were 465,470 n... read more
Labour's Authenticity Problem
Labour has internalised an authenticity problem. Without getting into the genealogical guts of the difficulty, the Tories - *the party* of privilege and unearned income - has made political hay from Labour being the party of out-of-touch elites. During the Blair and Brown years, the left outside of Labour made the same charge. Something Blue Labour took up when it emerged as a semi-coherent trend among, ironically, a Westminster-centric cadre of wonks, advisors, and MPs. And when Jeremy Corbyn was leader, right wingers and Blairites, people not known for caring about working class a... read more
COULD RIGHT-WING JESUS DECIDE THAT VACCINATION IS OKAY IN 2022?

I thought there was no such thing as a promising COVID vaccine! *Guest post by Bill Hennessey on Substack.* Novavax is proving more effective than Moderna, J&J, or Pfizer with less reliance on aborted cells and no gene therapy.... Chicom lockdowns lead to food shortages
Hot Air: Last week I wrote about the relatively small outbreak in China that led to the complete lockdown of a city of 13 million people. Apparently the cases that occurred in Xi’an all involved the delta variant but for some reason China seems to be struggling a bit to get this outbreak under control. There are multiple reports today that as the number of cases continues to climb, some residents are now worried about running out of food. Xi’an rolled out city-wide testing and placed its 13 million residents under a strict lockdown last week, closing schools, public venues and t... read more
A Dismal Response
Our political class, Andrew Nikiforuk writes, have learned nothing from COVID: Three weeks ago Omicron, a variant more transmissible than TikTok, started another global conflagration. And thanks in part to the connectivity of global elites who insist upon uninterrupted long-range travel, the variant has now started roaring fires in more than 90 nations. Once again authorities responded with sloth, resignation or deadly indifference. How déjà vu of them. Instead of acting quickly, our political classes collapsed into self-pity or pulled out a morgue full of excuses. Individuals e... read more

It ain't over till the fat lady sings
However cerebral and dispassionate we think we are, I contend that at heart we are all influenced by tribalist instincts. ‘Speak for yourself!' I hear you say - that is what I am doing. In the case of good old Alan M. Dershowitz, I take issue with the Times quote (which I initially mistook for Craig’s own opinion) for reasons that might very well (in the circs quite reasonably) be dismissed as tribal. I contend that the quoted article is susceptible to being unduly weaponised by those of us who are apt to take the reflexively anti-BBC stance that can easily run away with us all... read more

Joe knows how to lose voters
Monica Showalter: Based on his abysmal job performance, Joe Biden's been unpopular with a lot of voting groups lately, and I'm not talking about just conservatives. He's managed to alienate Latinos, suburban voters, independents, young people. He's lost a noticeable chunk of black male voters. He's losing with women. Inflation, violent crime, job competition from illegals, and the monstrous Afghanistan pullout are taking their toll on old Joe's presidential approval ratings. Now we learn that the rot has spread to the core: even Progressives can't stand Joe Biden. Here's a ... read more

Vaccine mandates made America more vulnerable
Fox News: COVID-19 vaccine mandates have put some vital U.S health and safety institutions in a tough spot after cutting personnel who didn’t comply. Overlapping federal mandates for military personnel, state mandates for health care workers, and other private mandates have created an increasingly difficult situation in the face of the omicron variant as numbers continue to surge in some states due to the much greater transmissibility of the variant. President Biden in August issued a federal vaccine mandate that required military personnel in each branch to receive a vaccinat... read more
