15 December - Interim - Blogs I'm Following - 1 of 8

4:13 pm  I find my Internet connection has finally resumed. Since crashing in the middle of posting Part 2 yesterday happened 18 hours ago, that leaves 18 + 24 = 42 to recover. At 5 hrs. each, that is over 8 posts, 2 of which have been made. The saved material for the former post is irretrievably lost from rebooting while I slept. There will be duplication of 2 posts, but time stamps are inadequate to avoid that.

Fake “Organic” Food From China is a Serious, Immediate Concern. Here’s What You Need to Know
Multiple recent reports exposed conventional foods manufactured in China as fake and even toxic: scams involving rice that contains plastic, fake eggs made from chemicals and many food items containing high levels of arsenic. Now that country-of-origin labeling has been removed by Congress (for meat anyway), and companies are struggling to find new sources of food to meet the growing demand for organics in the United States, it’s becoming more likely that your organic food could come from China or other countries rather than U.S. farmers. The Strategic Intelligence Value of Ransomware
A bundle of wires. (Simeon Berg, https://tinyurl.com/yxokdsvg; CC BY 2.0, https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0/) Ransomware implies a financially motivated crime. The theft of millions of dollars through extortion is the modern expression of a tactic far older than the digital systems so commonly afflicted. But focusing on ransomware as criminal activity overlooks the real strategic value these operations can provide their owners. Ransomware can be used to disruptive effects without any credible desire for financial gain (Russia), to bring in financial support for strategic... read more

Everybody says the same things!
*WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2021* *That's just the way humans work:* Is our latest Storyline accurate? On January 6, did Hannity and Ingraham betray their genuine concern in private texts to Mark Meadows, then play a different game on the air that night? Everybody has voiced some version of the latest hot claim, including the Post's Jeremy Barr. When we fact-checked Barr's specific complaints, we didn't think they held up real well. Having said that, so what? The basic rule of the journalism game has been clear for decades. The basic rule goes like this: Once a script has been put i... read more
The Speed of Warfare Is Getting Faster—Thanks to Artificial Intelligence
*Kris Osborn* *Artificial Intelligence, * The speed of decision-making, when mere seconds can decide life or death in warfare, is being completely redefined through the advent of artificial intelligence (AI). The tactical advantages of AI-enabled warfare and weaponry may seem far too numerous to cite, yet the majority of them pertain to one clear, simple concept—speed. The speed of decision-making, when mere seconds can decide life or death in warfare, is being completely redefined through the advent of artificial intelligence (AI). Why South Korea Refused to Join the Olympic Boycott
*Mitchell Blatt* *Olympics, * Korea has lots of interests to balance vis-a-vis China and North Korea, but Moon’s decision not to boycott puts him on the wrong side of Korean public opinion. South Korean president Moon Jae-in’s decision not to join other American allies in a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Olympics came as no surprise. Moon has been courting China’s support of his proposed declaration of peace with North Korea, which he hopes to finalize in the next five months before he leaves office. He had hoped to use the Olympics as a venue for the relevant countries to me... read more
The Army Is Rapidly Advancing Its Multi-Domain Attack Strategy
*Kris Osborn* *U.S. Army, * An entirely new sphere of technologies and multi-domain tactics are leading the Army to redefine its approach to traditional Combined Arms Maneuver warfare. Picture Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II stealth fighters sending enemy force location detail to soldiers maneuvering on the ground, Army soldiers using ground-radar data to alert Air Force fighter jets and drones or Navy ships using ballistic missile defense technology to send threat specifics about incoming attacks to ground units. These are all scenarios increasingly being tested as part of ... read more
Calls for Stimulus Checks Strong Amid High Inflation, Omicron Spread
*Ethen Kim Lieser* *Stimulus, * Medical experts are now warning that the Omicron variant’s spread could accelerate in the coming weeks, which could potentially mean more business shutdowns and associated financial troubles for tens of millions of cash-strapped, pandemic-weary Americans. Amid the current pocketbook-hitting high-inflationary environment and the fast spread of the Omicron variant across the United States, there appears to be increasing demands for another round or two of stimulus checks. The Labor Department recently confirmed that inflation in November surged 6.8 ... read more
