It’s not fake, but it is false

Norma at Collecting My Thoughts - 6 hours ago
There is so much propaganda using statistics about men who commit crimes--black and white. It's not exactly "fake," but it is meant to mislead. A man (or occasionally a woman) committing a crime is more likely to be shot or restrained by police than one who is out at a ball game not committing a crime. That's their job. Blacks commit crimes at a higher rate than whites or Hispanics or Asians, but for their numbers are less likely to be shot or restrained. It's something like 8x the rate of crime of whites, and blacks have a victim rate 6x that of whites. They are not being victimi... more »

6-4 Sir Richard Dearlove, who was head of the MI6 from 1999 until 2004, said he believes that Covid-19 is man-made. He cited an 'important' report from Professor Angus Dalgleish of St George's Hospital, University of *London* and Norwegian virologist Birger Sorensen which claims the virus was manufactured in a laboratory. In the report scientists claimed to have identified 'inserted sections placed on the Sars-CoV-2 Spike surface' which the virus uses to attach onto cells and observed they were 'significantly different from any Sars we have studied'. https://www.dailymail.co... more »

Iowa Republican Voters Finally Kick Neo-Fascist Congressman Steve King To The Curb

DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 9 hours ago
Tuesday evening, J.D. Scholten was the first guest on Marianne's week long down-ballot progressive summit. (Tonight, Hector Oseguera will be on with Marianne; here's the schedule.) Tuesday, while J.D. and Marianne were chatting, Iowans were voting in their primaries. J.D. wasn't challenged so, no drama there. But his opponent, GOP neo-fascist and arch-racist-- largely disowned by the DC Republican establishment-- Steve King had 4 primary opponents. And he lost-- very badly. King is a poor fundraiser and he was badly outraised by the GOP establishment favorite, state Senator Rand... more »

FMRI Images Are Just Pretty Pictures

News Staff at Science 2.0 blogs - 9 hours ago
Ten years ago science journalists talked about functional MRI (fMRI) scans all of the time. Because if a part of the brain lit up when someone did, said, or read something, it went into a paper. Few asked who was doing the interpreting, how legitimate the scale was, and if it had any scientific relevance. We got media claims that fMRI would predict behavior and the resulting media attention caused scholars to rush to produce even more fMRI papers. read more

Graduation in the Age of Covid-19

Peter Greene at CURMUDGUCATION - 9 hours ago
There are three bridges that run in and out of my small town. Currently, each bridge is flying a batch of banners that collectively list the entire 2020 graduating class at our high school. When the banners went up, a photo of some seniors looking for their names on the banners ran on the front page of the local paper. High school graduation is a big deal in small town USA. My old high school (the one where I taught for almost forty years *and *from which I graduated back in the day) holds the graduation ceremony in the city park. Graduates step up onto the band stand while all thei... more »

Millions Of Tenants Are Ready For A Rent Strike Revolution

Kevin Zeese at PopularResistance.Org - 10 hours ago
Calls to “cancel rent” are catching fire. First came a couple of tweets on Twitter. Then progressive firebrands like Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez endorsed the #CancelRent movement. Now, millions are on a rent strike. Even presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has declared his support for rent and mortgage forgiveness. As millions of tenants mobilize to cancel rent, they are not asking nicely or relying on lip service from politicians. Rather, millions of tenants are taking action by using a powerful time-tested strategy: rent strikes. As the desperation b... more »

The Murder Of George Floyd Is Normal In An Abnormal Society

Kevin Zeese at PopularResistance.Org - 10 hours ago
The recent murder of George Floyd in the US is sadly unsurprising in a country that upholds capitalist exploitation through white supremacy There is no need to wonder why George Floyd (age 46) was murdered in broad daylight in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on May 25, 2020. The script of his death is written deep in the ugly drama of US history. As you read this, somewhere in the United States, another person will be killed—another poor person whom the police deem to be a threat. Tomorrow another will be killed; and then another. These deaths are normal for the system. Outrage against thi... more »

Friends of the Earth tweeted #BlackLivesMatter, and the head of the NRDC promised: “to be fully and visibly committed to the fight against systemic racism.” When New York Communities for Change helped lead a demonstration of 500 on Monday in Brooklyn to protest George Floyd's killing in Minneapolis, the grassroots group's activism spoke to a long-standing link between police violence against African Americans and environmental justice. Elizabeth Yeampierre, executive director of UPROSE, Brooklyn's oldest Latino community-based organization, said she considers showing up to fight p... more »

Our Disaster – The Horrific War On Yemen

Kevin Zeese at PopularResistance.Org - 10 hours ago
An entire generation of Yemeni children has suffered the traumas of war, many of them orphaned, maimed, malnourished, or displaced. The United Nations reports a death toll of 100,000 people in that nation’s ongoing war, with an additional 131,000 people dying from hunger, disease, and a lack of medical care. A report from Save the Children, issued in November 2018, estimated at least 85,000 children had died from extreme hunger since the war began in 2015. Since then, 3.65 million people have been internally displaced and the worst cholera outbreak ever recorded has infected 2.26 ... more »

Minnesota Cops Trained By Israeli Police, Who Often Use Knee-On-Neck Restraint

Kevin Zeese at PopularResistance.Org - 10 hours ago
Officers from the US police force responsible for the killing of George Floyd received training in restraint techniques and anti-terror tactics from Israeli law-enforcement officers. At least 100 Minnesota police officers attended a 2012 conference hosted by the Israeli consulate in Chicago, the second time such an event had been held. There they learned the violent techniques used by Israeli forces as they terrorize the occupied Palestinian territories under the guise of security operations. The so-called counterterrorism training conference in Minneapolis was jointly hosted by ... more »

Trump Sends Unambiguous Message To Police And Vigilantes

Kevin Zeese at PopularResistance.Org - 10 hours ago
It is time to embrace the parallels, to be unafraid to speak a clear truth: Whether by design or lack of it, Donald Trump and the Republican Party operate an American state that they have increasingly organized on fascist principles. It is also time to consider what else the fascists may yet do, during an unprecedented pandemic, amid unprecedented unemployment, faced with unprecedented resistance ahead of an unprecedented election. The Republican Party wants to make “antifascist” a category of terrorist; whether or not it actually uses active-duty soldiers to round up this new cla... more »

Sometimes, other people simply say it better. What the world doesn't need right now is a white bloke miles away from the action offering their take on all and sundry, and doubly so on the American rebellion against police violence and structural racism. We should be hearing from black people. It's their experiences that need centring. It is they who deserve, *need* to be listened to. The U.S. Constitution and Insurrection!

United States Constitution, Article I, Section 8, Paragraph 15: “Congress shall have the power to provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions.” Donald Trump can not do anything until Congress calls out the National Guard. The Insurrection Act of 1807 requires the legislature or governor to request help from the federal government. Congress needs no such request. It is upon Nancy Pelosi’s dirty hands that all this blood and unrest falls. It is upon the Democrat Representative’s hands that refuse to come back to Wa... more »

Incredible Disappearing Coronavirus - The Narrative Has Failed

Daniel McAdams at Peace and Prosperity - 10 hours ago
Suddenly there is no talk about coronavirus. Reputable doctors in Italy, the UK, and elsewhere are claiming the virus hardly exists any longer. Just over a week ago much of America faced jail if they dared break the "social distancing" rules put in place by tyrannical governors and other public officials. Now tens of thousands gather to protest a police killing with impunity. And the spikes they warned about in areas where restrictions were eased are not happening. So what is happening? Also, what to make of the Trump/Mattis/Esper spat over US troops deployed against rioters in the U... more »

Just Say No to State & Local Bailouts

David Henderson at Econlib - 10 hours ago
Why is the HEROES bailout so much greater than the states’ losses? Simple: State governments would likely use a large part of the bailout money to make up for shortfalls in their funds for state government pensions. In April, Illinois Senate Democrats, for example, asked Congress for a bailout of over $40 billion, $10 billion […] The post Just Say No to State & Local Bailouts appeared first on Econlib.

Poacher killed by elephant then eaten by lions in South Africa

A rhino poacher is believed to have been attacked by an elephant and then eaten by a pride of lions during an incident in South Africa’s Kruger national park. Police brigadier Leonard Hlathi said police received information that a group of men had gone into the park on 1 April in order to hunt rhino, “when suddenly an elephant attacked and killed one of them”. “His accomplices claimed to have carried his body to the road so that passersby could find it in the morning. They then vanished from the park.” Hlathi said the group of men left the park and informed a family member of the... more »

*BBC:* *Hong Kong: Tens of thousands defy ban to attend Tiananmen vigil* Tens of thousands of demonstrators in Hong Kong have defied a ban to stage a mass vigil for the victims of the 1989 Tiananmen Square crackdown in Beijing. Police banned the vigil this year, citing coronavirus measures. Earlier, lawmakers approved a controversial bill making it a crime to insult China's national anthem.
