Yesterday 4 horrible reactionary Blue Dogs-- Kyrsten Sinema (AZ), Dan Lipinski (IL), Jim Cooper (TN) and Gwen Graham (FL)-- broke ranks with their fellow Democrats to vote against Nancy Pelosi as Speaker. Graham is new to Congress, but very ambitious and eager to jump to statewide office as soon as she can by proving how "bipartisan" she is; the other 3 vote with Boehner on crucial issues far more than they vote with Pelosi anyway. How do we get Democrats as bad as Sinema, Cooper, Lipinksi and Graham? Good question; all 4 belong in the Republican Party. (Sinema started out running ...more »

Before I heard today’s news I was going to write about Ed West’s piece in the Spectator. Pegida and the Left’s morality play. Brandon Smith The structure of history is held together by two essential and distinct kinds of links, two moments in time to which no one is immune: moments of epiphany, and moments of catastrophe. Sometimes, both elements intermingle at the birth of a singular epoch. Men often awaken to understanding in the midst of great crisis; and, invariably, great crises can erupt when men awaken. These are the moments when social gravity vanishes, when the kinetic glue of normalcy melts away, and we begin to see the true foundations of our world, if a foundation exists at all. Catastrophe ...more »

Two hours ago, gunmen invaded the French satirical anti-religious left-wing magazine Charlie Hebdo ("Charlie Weekly") and shot at least 12 people (which includes two cops and the cartoonists named Cabu, Charb, Tignous, and Wolinski). Szakacs v. Clarke, 2014 ONSC 7487: In the eyes of friends, family, school officials and the community in general, an access parent is viewed as inferior to a custodial parent. It is never in the best interests of a child to have one of his or her parents considered as inferior to the other. Therefore, I begin with the presumption that joint custody is in the best interests of the child of these parties and then I look for evidence to the contrary, such as disqualifying conduct by, or characteristics of, Mr. Clarke. Here, there is no such contrary evidence.

Section A, on a quick read, seems its usual, ghastly self, though it has an important headline for a start. "Report fails province on poverty reduction". The report comes from the Common Front for Social Justice. And it condemns both the Liberals and the Conservatives. Well, of course. Both parties are owned by big business. And big business loves poverty. Letting the poor stay poor cuts down on taxes for the rich. It also provides the rich with a pool of cheap labour. *people who commit suicide (IMO) are sick.* Their egos are so wounded that they can't see the damage they leave behind. They have devolved into a complete state of narcissism where they have determined the world revolves around their pain. Many are schizophrenics - a very nasty affliction and not of their doing. However, to willfully involve others in aiding your demise is just horrible. This morning, Boehner-- once banished from the GOP leadership for handing out bribery checks on behalf of tobacco lobbyists on the floor of the House (see video above)-- was elected to his third term as Speaker of the House. "I'll never di it again," whined Boehner, when caught. "It's a bad practice; we ought to stop this." In 1923, another 3-term Republican Speaker, Frederick Gillett (R-MA), was elected Speaker for the last time. (He left the House to run for a Senate seat, which he won.) Gillett was opposed by progressives, who rallied around Henry Cooper (R-WI) and it took 9 b...more »

Jim Willy yesterday published a great run down of the 2014 epic explosion of the Global Monetary War. While I may not always agree with Jim's conclusions, I can rarely cast doubt on his facts and intel as so often it exactly lines up with what I am hearing at the exact same time. The US Dollar is dead. Never to be revived as the global reserve currency. What we are witnessing right now is just a headless chicken running around the yard, smashing into anything it's path as it winds through it's final death throes. While I do not think that Gold & Silver are the final answer, it...more »
*“The Final Act of This Economic Tragicomedy”* by Bill Bonner “The Dow fell hard on the first real day of trading in 2015 – down 331 points, or 1.9%. And US crude oil fell below $50 a barrel, as pumpers kept on pumping to try to keep up with their debt service costs. We don't know if this heralds bad things for investors in the year ahead. But it reminds us that, in the struggle between Mr. Market and Ms. Janet Yellen, Mr. Market will have his way – eventually. Most likely, the "buy the dip" reflex of last year will assert itself again. US stocks will go back up. For a while. Bu...more »

I had promised a review of Gwynne Dyer's book, Climate Wars; and though I have certainly been critical of Israel, I think I can understand how it got that way, and whose fault it is. So this blog is on those two topics. I'll do the regular blog right after - I hope. Gwynne Dyer, Climate Wars. This is a brilliant book. And you needn't take my word for it. I mean, we haven't yet heard the official word from the Canadian Institute on Public Research and Public Policy or from AIMS or the C.D.Howe Institute or any of those other phony think tank propaganda outfits. But the chief scientis...more »
