Canada beating deficit target

How Phantom Accounting Is Destroying The Post Office ( U.S. )

The massive post office deficit that is driving management to commit institutional suicide by ending six-day delivery, closing half of the nation's 30,000 or so post offices and half its 500 mail-processing centers, and laying off more than 200,000 workers, is make-believe.

The House and Senate held 11 hearings on postal reform between 2003 and 2006. Sen. Susan Collins, Chair of the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee commented, "two issues ... united every single witness who has testified before our committee ... a desire to see the escrow account repealed and the return of the military pension obligation to the Treasury Department."

...... this all began because the post office discovered it had surplus funds. Unified budget accounting made sure it could never tap into this surplus unless at the same time it assumed new liabilities of an equal magnitude. The solution to the post office financial deficit is simple. Give it back the money, Congress, as a result of pressure from the CBO, has stolen from it over the past years.

The postal crisis is contrived.

BERLIN - At least 20,000 people held a major rally of the local Occupy movement in Frankfurt on Saturday to decry austerity measures affecting much of Europe, the dominance of banks, and what they call untamed capitalism.

"The German police took off their helmets and marched with the protest clearing the way for them."

Indonesia's deforestation rate falls, says Ministry of Forestry

Indonesia's deforestation rate fell from 830,000 hectares per year between 2006-2009 to 450,000 hectares per year between 2009–2011, said the Ministry of Forestry Thursday during the unveiling of its revision of a map that defines the country's moratorium on new logging and plantation concessions in primary forests and peatlands.

KFC linked to destruction of Indonesia's rainforests

Fast food giant Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) is linked to the destruction of Indonesia's rainforests through its packaging sourcing practices, alleges a new report published today by Greenpeace.

An investigation by the environmental activist group found traces of mixed tropical hardwood fiber (MTH) in KFC's drink cups, food boxes, napkins and chicken buckets. The fiber comes from Asia Pulp & Paper.

LAFITTE, La. (AP) — Gloom infects the hard-working shrimp and crab docks of thisgritty fishing town as the second full year of fishing since BP's catastrophic oil spill kicks into high gear. Usually folks are upbeat and busy in May, when shrimpers get back to work in Louisiana's rich waters. This spring, though, catches are down, docks are idle and anxiety is growing that the ill effects of the massive BP oil spill may be far from over. An Associated Press examination of catch data from last year's commercial harvest along the Gulf — the first full year of fishing since the 2010 spill — reveals merit in the fishermen's complaints. According to the analysis of figures obtained through public records requests, seafood crops hit rock bottom in the Barataria estuary, the same place where some of the thickest waves of oil washed in when a BP well exploded in the Gulf of Mexico.

6 world powers open talks with Iran to curb nuclear program

This is the spectacle of known WMD developers harassing a promoter of nuclear disarmament over the particulars of its undertaking to expose its vulnerability and inability to retaliate in kind to nuclear attack. To do this means requiring it be forced to disregard the agreed terms of its undertaking to 140 nations by unilaterally varying the treaty and disabling its ability to finance independent review by cashiering/stealing its monetary deposits of payment for oil.
All this over technology, fuel, and development controlled, supplied by and guaranteed by a competitor for nuclear power market share much closer at hand : Russia.
Russia has so proprietary an interest as to state it regards Iranian nuclear development as its own for purposes of defence from outside aggression. That is quite obvious WMD unmentioned as a threat in common 'analysis'.
