Corruption at local level Or progress

Uriel at 'Nox & Friends - 16 hours ago
This story is one that many small towns and locales may recognize. In fact, this is a tale very similar to my own hometown and where I grew up in a small neighborhood built in WWII to house ammunition plant workers and vets. We begin in small town USA. In this case Charlestown, Indiana. The wax and wane of this small town is the same one found all across the country. It rises to prominence then it crashes in economic hardship times. The town rose from obscurity of its founding in 1808 to become the county seat from 1811-1878 when … Continue reading →

AOC Endorsed Bernie-- Bernie Says He's Going To Be Endorsing More Progressive Congressional Candidates. Wonder Who?

DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 16 hours ago
Within a couple of hours of the AOC endorsement video that went up on Saturday morning, there were over a million viewers across social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. I'd rather you just watch it again than read anything I could possibly say about it. I'd rather you share it with a friend or family member or colleague than even contribute to Bernie's campaign (although, you're welcome to do that too-- here-- if you're so moved). Just before Saturday's big Bernie's Back Rally in Queens, Bernie and AOC sat down with Ryan Grim for an *Intercept* interview. Bernie, wrote... more »

The party that gave us, just in the 20th and early 21st centuries (when the Grand Old Party switched sides with the Democrats and completely gave itself over to the Dark Side), Teapot Dome, the Great Depression, the Bay of Pigs, countless recessions, Joe McCarthy, the escalation of the illegal war in Vietnam, Watergate, Iraq, 9/11, the quagmire in Afghanistan, the hideous response to Katrina, the financial meltdown of 2008, a crumbling infrastructure and, lastly, Donald fucking Trump, has to stick with its president when one of your own is in the Ova... more »

Canada: Destroyed By Identity Politics Resulting in A Coalition of Crackpots

Penny at Penny for your thoughts - 17 hours ago
* Canada's always had issues with "identity." Like most other nation states.* * But, not even close to what's been happening here recently. Everyone has their axe to grind & their pet peeves. Toss in that overwhelming sense of entitlement that far too many people have these days and you have a recipe for.... a fractured nation. And so it goes. It shouldn't surprise anyone, really. The divisions were really solidifying during the Harper reign. Worsened, vastly worsened, under the Trudeau government. As had been expected by yours truly. And now..... we have a mess.* *Initially, I'd tho... more »

Everything You Never Wanted to Know About Artificial Sweeteners

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 19 hours ago
The key take home is that they do not reduce demand for sugar. Thus you must eat more. So much for that plan. The other problem is sugar craving. That must be stopped cold and that can be done by consuming around a half teaspoon of soda bicarbonate once a day. Those cravings will disappear. Do that and it is possible to eat sweets occasionally and also safely as well. . . *Everything You Never Wanted to Know About Artificial Sweeteners* * Your diet soda might just be worse than a regular one.* *Sara Chodosh * *Everyone organizes their sugar packets, right? Chaga Tea

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 19 hours ago
Amusing. I had this long enough in my cupboard to forget what it was. Writing this up reminded me what it was. The obvious way to make this is to simply pour hot water into a one quart Mason Jar and throw in a tablespoon of chunks. That way you can set it aside and allow it to steep as long as you wish. Then you can pour off a cup full to reheat and drin or to add to your presently steeping large four cup tea pot to cool it down as well. Cinnamon and maple syrup is a nice idea, but any variation is indicated here because the flavor is weak to begin with.. *Strange But Delici... more »

[image: plush-design-studio-483666-unsplash.jpg] Excellent piece. Generally i did something very like this on most areas of interest. The toughest was making the General theory of relativity intelligible to another who was at least mathematically inclined. Yet this is doable. My best trick is to translate it all somehow into a visual framework and then help the mind see the important questions. Then translate back into the verbal space. This is super advice and needs to be applied to all blocks of knowledge even when you think it is unnecessary. Take it all to heart.. *The S... more »
