Ex-C.I.A. Officer Charged in Information Leak

The Justice Department on Monday charged a former Central Intelligence Agency officer with disclosing classified information to journalists about the capture and brutal interrogation of a suspected member of Al Qaeda, Abu Zubaydah

In a criminal complaint filed on Monday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation accused John Kiriakou, the former C.I.A. officer, of disclosing the identity of a C.I.A. analyst who worked on a 2002 operation that located and interrogated Abu Zubaydah. The journalists included a New York Times reporter

At the same time, the department on Monday cleared of wrongdoing a legal defense team for inmates at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, for its efforts to identify officials involved in the coercive interrogations of “high value” suspects. The effort was a project by the American Civil Liberties Union and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers to bolster the representation of detainees facing death sentences in military commissions.
Mr. Kiriakou, who was released on a $250,000 bond after appearing in federal court in Alexandria, Va., on Monday, was a leader of the team that captured Abu Zubaydah, and he came to public attention in late 2007 when he gave an interview to ABC News portraying the suffocation technique called waterboarding as torture, but calling it necessary. *(It later emerged that he significantly understated the C.I.A.’s use of the technique.)
The prosecution of Mr. Kiriakou is the sixth criminal case brought under President Obama against current or former government officials accused of providing classified information to the media, more such cases than all previous presidents combined.
*It was 'necessary'. Since torture initiates false confessions and fantasies designed to pacify professional sadists, all sorts of nonsense about al-CIA-da from Dick Cheney's office became 'intelligence' and 'necessary'- including invading a nation uninvolved in the 9-11 scenario : where the official story cataloging actors presumably destroyed with all evidence was speedily released without the unnecessary expense of the standard FAA crash reporting ( mandatory) and the debris removed without examination or access to investigating authority...supposing such could be identified aside from hapless First Responders sent in without protective gear ( Same as the Deepwater Horizon blowout 'cleanup' crews....or even Exxon Valdez cleanup : Dr. Riki Ott : website
Riki has written a teaching guide for educators who want to show the film Black Wave: The Legacy of the Exxon Valdez to their students. The Black Wave teaching guide is suitable for high school and college Students. Download the free study guide and student handout by clicking here.

Bin Laden was not identified by the FBI as involved at all. That would help explain why there were no extradition proceedings with the Taleban to rendition a Saudi prince; intimate and financier of the Bush empire and CIA operations in Afghanistan.

Report: White House Pressured Scientists to Underestimate BP Spill Size

Three of the 13 Plume Team experts used a technique called Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) to estimate a leak rate in the range of 25,000 bpd. But three other experts on the Plume Team reported that PIV was underestimating the size of the leak by more than 50%. Those three experts used a different technology to correctly peg the leak rate at 50,000 to 60,000 bpd.

Yet Lehr did not tell the public or key decision makers that there was a deep split on the Plume Team. In the Plume Team’s Final Report, the body of which Lehr wrote, he reported that "most of the Plume Team used PIV" which produced “consistent and accurate” estimates. These underestimates were repeated to the public and media.

Now those are captured : and filter disposal is likely another nasty problem )
