Meet Billionaire Hedge Fund Crook John Paulson, Trumpist And Guillotine Candidate Du Jour
John Paulson, who has managed to accrue 10 billion lightly taxed dollars for himself, made his fortune in 2007, using credit default swaps to bet against the subprime mortgage market, profiting as people were kicked out of their homes. A few years later he threatened that he would move to Singapore if his taxes went up. Instead he moved to Puerto Rico, where he pays no local or federal capital-gains tax, and no local taxes on dividend or interest income for 20 years. Paulson's contributes primarily to Republicans, although he gives a little to corrupt conservative Democrats as wel... more »

“Vulnerable Children”: What’s in a name?
The word “vulnerable” comes from the Latin *vulnerabilis *meaning ‘to wound.’ It means, or *meant* until coopted by the State, something that was in danger of damage, exposed to attack, in peril against some specific harm. These days however the thing that’s most “in peril” is a child in danger of an interference of social workers descending upon them. So pity the poor child (and his parents) who attract the attention of the now-renamed Ministry for Vulnerable Children. The very name just sounds Kafkaesque, doesn’t it. A whole Ministry of State to deal with (deal to?) children ... more »
Who are the Austrian economists, and why do they matter?
[image: Ebeling]My very first introduction to Austrian economics was a “ reader” edited by Richard Ebeling, which I still own -- and it’s still the best introduction I could recommend. Mind you, I haven’t yet read his newest ebook, out this week: *Austrian Economics & Public Policy: Restoring Freedom and Prosperity.* (Buy it on Amazon for just US$4.99.) *This book [he says] is on understanding Austrian Economics and essential economic policy issues. It might be asked, what is Austrian Economics and what makes it important to better understand the economic policy issues we face... more »
Trump Clubs the Hildebeast in Public
Where can I start with Trump. I wrote many a scathing blog about him somewhere but in summary he is a combo of Brother Loves travelling ministry mixed with PT Barnum and Andrew Carnegie. Love him or hate him he is a force of nature. He is Suri Genurs in the flesh welcoming the decision if its flesh of the devil or flesh of an Angel? Not to run my narrative into the ditch but when it comes to Hillary there is no decision. As it turns out the devil wears Prada pant suits. To nite he was brother love protzilizing immigration as the greatest sin to ever walk unencumbered on the remark... more »
The so-called global warming “scientific consensus” is a complete fabrication and does not exist
Canadian Free Press' Fred Dardick reports: The so-called global warming “scientific consensus” is a complete fabrication and does not exist Nature Magazine, the academic journal that introduced the world to X-rays, DNA double helix, wave nature of particles, pulsars, and more recently the human genome, is set to publish a paper in June that shows atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) is responsible for only 5-10% of observed warming on Earth. As explained by the paper’s author Professor Jyrki Kauppinen, “*The climate is warming, yes, but not because of greenhouse gases.*" For the p... more »

Why We’ll Keep Going Back to BIW
By Bruce K. Gagnon I recently returned from a nearly month-long trip to South Korea where I, and two others from Veterans For Peace, visited several farming villages that have been devastated by the expansion of bases for US military operations in the region. While gone I missed the West Bath Court arraignment for the Zumwalt 12 arrestees. We were arrested at BIW during the June 18 ‘christening’ of the second Zumwalt stealth destroyer. Bar Harbor lawyer Lynne Williams represented me in court on Aug. 2. Our group of peace protesters pled not guilty to the charges filed against... more »

Okinawa: Villagers confront Japanese riot police attempting to force through the construction of US Marine Corps helipads in the Yanbaru jungles. Japan Times reports: Since July, the Japanese government has been conducting a massive police campaign in the Takae district of Higashi village that has left at least five demonstrators hospitalized, infringed upon press freedoms and been condemned by Gov. Setting Up the Straw Man for Rigged Elections
We know that US elections have been rife with manipulation for many years. We know that major league voter suppression and voting machine manipulation have been around for a long time. In recent days the allegations (and that is all they are) that Russia is hacking voter roles across the US appears to be part of a larger operation being undertaken by the ruling oligarchy in the US. The American people have become the enemy and cannot any longer be trusted with a proper honest voting system. So those who are running this corporate oligarchy (that is disguised as a democracy) are ... more »

Could A Looming Fiscal Crisis Doom America's Military Edge?
*Loren B. Thompson, National Interest*: *How A Looming Fiscal Crisis Could Doom America's Military Edge* The problem with defense professionals is that defense is all they think about. Other than spending time with the family and catching a football game on the weekend, they're all about war. So things that impinge on their profession from outside the military realm often come as a colossal surprise. The Budget Control Act is a case in point. Anybody who follows U.S. politics realizes that defense is a sideshow in the struggle for power. The big divide is between those who favor t... more »
The Donald's so-far-successful withholding of his tax returns tells us something terrible about us
*Doesn't it feel as if we're intruding on a private moment between Little Eric and Daddy The Donald?* *by Ken* Okay, this isn't breaking news, and it's Trump-themed, despite my avowed preference for avoiding that whole subject. But on the second count, I think a lot of things about the Trump Phenomenon need to be talked about because of things they tell us about ourselves as an electorate and populace, and on the first count, I think Daily Kos's Mark Sumner hit just the right note in his post last week "Eric Trump says you wouldn't understand his daddy's taxes." Alsouria *Tobias Schneider, War On The Rocks*: *The Decay of the Syrian Regime is Much Worse Than You Think* In a recent interview conducted by Aaron David Miller for Foreign Policy, Robert Malley, one of the president’s most trusted advisors on the Middle East, once again enumerated the competing priorities of U.S. Syria policy: the need to balance humanitarian concerns with the desire to “preserve state institutions” and avoid a power vacuum so that the country does not slide into total anarchy. Young suns still lie within dusty NGC 7129, some 3,000 light-years away toward the royal constellation Cepheus. While these stars are at a relatively tender age, only a few million years old, it is likely that our own Sun formed in a similar stellar nursery some five billion years ago. Most noticeable in the sharp image are the lovely bluish dust clouds that reflect the youthful starlight. But the compact, deep red crescent shapes are also markers of energetic, young stellar objects. *Click image for larger size.* Known as Herbig-Haro objects, their shape and color is characteristic ... more »
Chet Raymo, "Nullius In Verba"
*"Nullius In Verba"* by Chet Raymo "Britain's Royal Society, established in 1660, was the first formal scientific association. Despite the mamy good things about today’s world – materially the best time in history to be alive, says Johan Norberg – very few people are saying that. Why is that? The murder of a Polish man, Arkadiusz Jozwik, in Harlow by a gang of young thugs has provoked a good deal of revulsion, and *if* he was murdered simply because he was Polish then that makes his murder even more despicable. I also noted that Carolyn Quinn didn't hesitate to link the possibility of a 'hate crime' to the Brexit debate in her interview with the pro-Remain Conservative MP Robert Halfon, asking: ... more »

*Earth Is GAINING Land * *Sea level rise, where art thou?* Coastal areas around the world are expanding in the face of projections that global warming-induced sea level rise will wipe out coastal cities. In total, the study found 67,000 square miles of water was converted into land, and 44,000 square miles of land was covered by water. “We expected that the coast would start to retreat due to sea level rise, but the most surprising thing i... more »
Coming Down The Pike
Canada Post and CUPW have reached an agreement. But that's not the end of the story. The real drama, Tom Walkom writes, is just beginning: The main event – what to do with the Crown corporation – is set to begin next month. That’s when a four-person task force set up by Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government is due to report. Chaired by the head of the Quebec Chamber of Commerce, the task force has been told to “identify viable options” for Canada Post. Are Trump And Bannon Hoping For Riots In Mexico?
This morning Señor Trumpanzee had a fundraiser in California and has a much-touted anti-immigrant speech scheduled for Phoenix tonight. In between he decided to go on a last minute jaunt to Mexico City on TrumpForce One. Mexico's embattled and extremely unpopular president (23% approval rating), Enrique Peña Nieto, invited El Trumpanzee down for his own domestic reasons, probably to use him as a piñata. Only 4% of Mexicans see Señor Trumpanzee in a positive light. The video above, from 1958, will give you an idea of what I think Bannon had in mind when he proposed the Trump trip. ... more »

A Remainocrat on Radio 4
A one-side view of Gus O'Donnell It looks as if we're going to have to wait some time longer for Radio 4 to invite someone who voted *for* Brexit to present one of its landmark post-Brexit documentaries. So far such documentaries have been presented by a mixture of BBC types and pro-Remain journalists (like David Aaronovitch and Anne McElvoy), and this morning gave us *Brexit: The Leavocrats* by Remain-supporting former head of the Civil Service Gus O'Donnell. This was described as a 'very personal' piece. And it certainly was *that*. And despite Lord O'Donnell's statement that ... more »

Bexar County District Attorney Nico LaHood, who has children with autism, also said that he is ready for the backlash to his public comments. Printable Doll House Rooms
Today I am sharing the fifth post in the Printable Quiet Book Series. These cute doll house room go along with the darling printable paper dolls that I shared earlier this week. There are four different rooms to help your little one's imagination soar! *From the first post: When our first daughter was little, I painstakingly made a felt quiet book. I spent hours cutting out pieces and hand embroidering, it took me months. My daughter loved it and played with it often, but I always wished it was easier to add pages to it. I wanted to add new pieces and new pages, but it seemed lik... more »
Chemotherapy Is Killing Up To 50% Of Cancer Patients
New research has shown that chemotherapy drugs are killing up to 50 per cent of patients in some hospitals. Based on the numbers of cancer patients who died within 30 days of starting chemotherapy researchers found indications that the medication was the cause of death, rather than the cancer. The research was published in the Lancet Oncology The Telegraph reports: The study by Public Health England and Cancer Research UK found that across England around 8.4 per cent of patients with lung cancer, and 2.4 per cent of breast cancer patients died within a month. But in some hospitals t...more »
European Commission orders Apple to repay Ireland $14.5 billion in illegal tax benefits
Today the European Commission slapped down tax avoiding Apple and low-road economic developer Ireland with a $14.5 billion state aid repayment order. Yes, you read that right: Apple has to pay Ireland €13 billion in back taxes, plus interest, covering the years 2003-2014. According to the Commission's order, Apple's effective tax rate in Ireland ranged from 1% in 2003 to 0.005% in 2014, far below Ireland's statutory 12.5% corporate income tax rate. This could not have happened to two more deserving parties. Apple, of course, constantly whines about taxes and is a pioneer in creating... more »

Muslim migrants demand housing in "true Germany"
I think that the Western European and U.S. mainstream media almost completely fail to inform the public about the basic facts concerning the ongoing migration wave. The situation is better in the Czech media. *The Ruhr district – the true Germany – in red.* It's been known that the Muslim migrants basically want to live in Germany – nothing else is good enough for them. According to the evaluations by the migrants and the geography as envisioned by the migrants, even Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, Benelux, Scandinavia etc. either fail to exist or they suck. However, the situation... more »

Guess Where the French Originally Planned to Build Capital of New France?
What ever the reason, the result was the collapse of the French colony in Georgia. One can see the correct course of action but actual actions may well have been in response to royal orders. This led to complete failure. In terms of what ifs, it is certain that a success then would have allowed French to secure the entire Eastern Sea board with sustainable colonies, much as the English did a century later. The climate was potentially suitable for serious colonization although we do not know how disease issues would have hampered French efforts during the early going. *G... more »
A Hot Month for Clinton’s Body Count
Of course some of these tales have much better explanations. However, there are way too many and that is simply not possible. I think some Mafia Dons have less of of a body trail. It certainly has kept a lot of potentially inconvenient mouths shut and likely has kept many others in line. This is not a joke. This team has a team of enablers around them that is certainly able to solve problems.. The same held true for LBJ if we want an historical example. Now I think it may well be out of control. . *A Hot Month for Clinton’s Body Count* *by Gavin McInnes* *August 15, 2... more »
Tesla – the Forgotten Genius
Hardly forgotten of course. Yet he has been written out of school books for many years although that no longer may be true. All i do know is that i studied physics and electricity and barely was aware of him and that should have been impossible. This story is conventional. however he hardly died broke. He just never was a spender. The other issue is that we suspect that he quit fighting the finance guys and won the support of the military and then essentially shut up. That would certainly explain their immediate interest in disappearing his papers on his death. That was no... more »
Script of the Inga Stone
Putting aside the nonsense, this is script. That it conforms to Phoenician, demotic and Easter island as well should be instructive. That places us back into the Atlantean Bronze Age running from 2500 BC- 1159 BC. The global trade culture brought the idea of script and it appears every culture somewhat formed their own. Out of that pot of script the all important Greek script emerged along with Latin script whose importance surpassed most other forms by been able to convey sounds as well as simple knowledge. The exception was Chinese which preserved knowledge across ma... more »
Taiwan’s Social Safety Net Is the Street Market
Astonishingly, the service industry is completely able to absorb all surplus labor in a dense urban environment. Better yet there is no social shame attached to any of it. The low cost of the product has actually allowed residents to feed themselves without ever using their own kitchen which of course was produced a huge demand for the product. My own thinking has pushed for landed natural communities with ample microfinance. Yet this likely works just as well because it works around the one significant human expense of eating. This demonstration actually confirms my thinkin... more »

I Wish It Was More Shocking That Florida Democratic Primary Voters Picked Conservatives Over Democrats
Last night, for a post I was working on, I was trying to figure out what major party presidential candidate has done as badly as Trump's latest polling indicates he will. I looked at the results of campaigns I remember tanking badly-- Goldwater, McGovern and George H.W. Bush's failed reelection campaign. But all of them ended up better than the 35% Señor Trumpanzee is polling today. I had to go all the way back to the 3-way race in 1924 to find a candidate who did worse than Trump is doing. It was the conservative Democrat from West Virginia, John Davis, in a three-way race with R... more »
Advice to Needy Neoliberals
The kludge known as Obamacare is trying desperately to slide down the tubes, but it's too dense with defenders to simply go gently and smoothly into that good night. It's moldering in a limbo between the toilet and the sewer, while its subscribers and rejects are trapped in either purgatory or hell, depending upon the health of their bodies, their faith in politicians, and the size of their dwindling bank accounts. It seems that the predatory insurance companies, which literally wrote the Affordable Care and Patient Protection Act, just aren't getting enough bang for our bucks, even... more »
Libertarians *against* immigration? How is that even a thing?
If you understand anything at all about libertarianism (which, I lament, too few libertarians even do) you would know that it is based squarely on defending the rights of individuals – “That to secure these rights,” to use Thomas Jefferson’s ringing phrase, “Governments are instituted among Men.” That government’s only purpose being to secure individual rights; a government itself being an entity with a monopoly over the use of force in any given geographic area; a border simply being the boundaries around that aforementioned area. This is the place from which legitimate liberta... more »

Next year there's a good chance poor Paul Ryan-- who just wants to be left alone so he can try to pass his silly BetterWay think tanks gibberish off as a 2020 or 2024 presidential platform for himself-- will have to deal with two years of a Democratic Senate plus a Hillary presidency and a Trumpanzee Media Empire, likely to be pushing a breakup of... more »
Chris Brown Declares Race War: “F*ck The Police, Black Lives Matter”
Chris Brown has declared his support for a racially motivated war with police in response to the LAPD retrieving guns and drugs from his property, saying that “it’s always going to be f*ck the police” and “black lives matter.” Chris Brown emerged from his Los Angeles home Tuesday after police served a search warrant after a bizarre hours long standoff during which the singer posted videos on Instagram declaring war on the police and promoting Black Lives Matter. Time for SOLO to change its name
[image: ayn-rand-purpose-of-morality-joy-sunset-sunrise1] Why have I posted so many recent posts opposing or explaining the odious Alt-Right movement? One local place that’s become a carrier for the virus is a site that’s still confusingly labelled “Objectivist,” although it’s now clearly anything but. Apple’s response to EU: “FU”
The unelected EU Commission has brought down a bizarre decision against Apple and the Irish Government, insisting that Apple pay billions in “back taxes” to the very Irish Government that says they don’t owe them. Apple’s CEO Tim Cook has sent out an open letter to Apple customers that indicates the spirit of Steve Jobs has not yet totally left the building. It’s deadly: *Thirty-six years ago, long before introducing iPhone, iPod or even the Mac, Steve Jobs established Apple’s first operations in Europe. Can Americans Overthrow The Evil That Rules Them?
As a Canadian, all I can do is watch the circus that is the American Presidential race as it unfolds, and from my perspective most Americans are sleepwalking into a disaster... Right now, all the American Jew spew media outlets are filling most Americans with the garbage that the psychotic mass murdering freak of nature, Hillary "Killary" Rodham Clinton, is somehow "leading" in all the polls..... Again as I have said before, exactly WHO is conducting these polls and where? For the only way that demon seed could be 'winning' the race is if the polls were conducted only amongst the D... more »

The Poet: Langston Hughes, "Dreams"

"When One Grasps The Irony..."
“How is one to live a moral and compassionate existence when one is fully aware of the blood, the horror inherent in life, when one finds darkness not only in one’s culture but within oneself? If there is a stage at which an individual life becomes truly adult, it must be when one grasps the irony in its unfolding and accepts responsibility for a life lived in the midst of such paradox. One must live in the middle of contradiction, because if all contradiction were eliminated at once life would collapse. There are simply no answers to some of the great pressing questions. Chet Raymo, "In the Cave"
*"In the Cave"* by Chet Raymo "I have mentioned here before the ospreys that patrol our beach - or "fish hawks," as they call them here - generally in the afternoon at about the time I take my long walk to the palm point. Magnificent birds with broad wings that glide seemingly effortlessly on the wind. And here's the thing: As often as not I am startled by a bird's shadow before I see the bird itself. That wide-winged shadow, sweeping across the white sand, sometimes across me. That flicker of chill as the osprey blocks the sun. And generally when it happens I think of Plato's all... more »

Thank you, Matt McCarten
As Matt MCarten steps down from the wreckage of yet another political organiser’s position once proclaimed with much hope and many huzzahs, it might be time to ask: Why is this dickhead thought to be some kind of a political genius? From the way he’s been talked about over the years, you’d think he were the southern hemisphere’s answer to Machiavelli. And being an anti-capitalist political organiser in a country in which that political disposition is imbibed with mother’s milk, you’d think any even *half*-decent organiser of that persuasion would have acheived great career succ... more »

Royal Family Furious After Bing Translates ISIS As ‘Saudi Arabia’
Saudi Arabia’s royal family have expressed their disgust and fury after a search engine ‘accidentally’ translated “Daesh” (ISIS) as “Saudi Arabia”. As a result, many pro-Saudi regime supporters have called for a complete boycott of the search engine.
