Lecretia Seales is a very brave woman, a lawyer with an inoperable brain tumour, who says it's a "fundamental human right" to choose to end her life with medical assistance, and she is going to court to assert that right so that a doctor may be legally able to euthanase her without prosecution if she chooses it. Opting For A Gay Lifestyle-- Pick One

Recently, Ben Carson apologized for his comments-- widely attacked in the media and by politicians from Barney Frank to Joe Biden-- that homosexuality is a choice. It's a debate that's been raging between conservatives and non-conservatives for a long time. Gay equality activist Dan Savage suggested Carson show how that choice can be made: "If being gay is a choice, prove it. Choose it. Choose to be gay yourself. ..and scattered in topics. I forgot to mention the Faith Page sermonette in Saturday's paper. It was the usual holy wimp stuff, this time assuring us that St. Patrick was a nice man. When Jesus spoke, he looked at problems around him in the world of his time. He looked at cruelty, at indifference to human suffering, at greed.... And those were much of what he talked about. We live in a world driven by cruelty, greed, self-interest, indifference to the suffering of others, mass murder..... And it's not just happening on the "other side". The Cashew Girls of Guasaule

I crossed back into Nicaragua from Honduras yesterday at dusty, dry Guasaule, on my way back home to Leon after a work trip. Crossing a Central American border by bus is often a mysterious, confusing process that involves everyone getting out of the bus in a big herd and wandering to and from various unmarked buildings. So it was kind of nice to see the familiar face of Carmen the Cashew Girl as I descended the Tica Bus stairs yesterday. She was wearing the brilliantly coloured eye shadow and matching shirt that the Cashew Girls clearly favour as a strategy for g... more »

Saudi Arabia spends $67 billion annually on its military, making it the 4th-biggest military spender in the world. Canada spends $22.6 billion on the military, placing us as the 14th largest spender world-wide. So what is Saudi Arabia's contribution to the fight with ISIS? It is conducting air-strikes against targets in Syria and training anti-Assad rebels. Which could mean just a continuation of the same policies that helped produce ISIS in the first place.
