Climate Tricks 38: Threats and Witch Hunt of Skeptical Scientists

The anthropogenic or "man-made" warming/climate change camp is getting desperate, some or many of them are turning to outright threats and witch hunting. See these news reports below. From truthout.org, November 12, 2014. This camp of environmental militants want to promote deindustrialization, to junk modernity, meaning we go back to the dark ages? For these eco-socialists, modern life like having more computers and mobile phones, more internet acccess, and capitalism is something that we should be ashamed of. Ukraine Facing Hyperinflation

War News Updates Editor at War News Updates - 12 minutes ago
*Washington Post: **Ukraine unofficially has 272 percent inflation* *Ukraine's currency has fallen 70 percent since the start of 2014, and that's pushed it into hyperinflation.Hyperinflation is always and everywhere a political phenomenon. It happens after wars or revolutions, when governments have to print the money they need because there's not much of an economy left to tax—which brings us to Ukraine. It had a revolution, it has a war now, and it's all but broke. Inflation is officially 28.5 percent, but, according to Johns Hopkins professor Steve Hanke, it's really more lik... more »

In most schools, students sit in rows facing the teacher, who does most of the talking. But these students are grouped at tables, each corresponding to a grade level. The hum of conversation fills the room. After tackling an assignment on their own, the students review one another’s work. If a child is struggling, the others pitch in to help. (It's Sunday. So I took a break from the daily news._ In political discussion, all of us frequently use words we don't really understand. The result is that the words come to have meaning only for the person speaking them - and that meaning is emotional, often with no connection with any reality. Mars Daniels at GLOBAL POLITICAL AWAKENING - 15 hours ago
Joshua Krause Well, tax season is officially here, as Americans of all walks of life scramble to get their extortion papers tax returns in order before April 15th. Although, I’m not really sure why they call it “tax season.” That makes it sound like you could draw a comparison to something like the “holiday season.” I guess there are some similarities. You will spend months stressing over your finances, as you struggle to figure out how you’re going spend all your money on stuff you don’t need, but I digress. There is some great news on the tax front. Apparently, this year the IRS... more »

What’s Really Behind the Current Measles Outbreak?

Mars Daniels at GLOBAL POLITICAL AWAKENING - 15 hours ago
Dr. Tedd Koren In this nation of over 300 million, a little over a hundred cases of measles have been reported with no deaths. Some epidemic. Why is everyone so concerned? How many epidemic scares have we seen in the past few years? Both swine flu scares, SARS, bird flu, H1N1 flu, the Ebola scare and wasn’t heterosexual AIDS predicted to wipe out a quarter of the earth’s population? And this is only a partial list! As George Carlin once said, “Americans panic easily.” But who can blame us when the “experts” say terrible things are going to happen and the media doesn’t give the ot... more »

South Africa’s ''Dr. Death'' Again Evades Sentencing

Mars Daniels at GLOBAL POLITICAL AWAKENING - 16 hours ago
Janet Phelan In a last minute strategic move by counsel, Dr. Wouter Basson’s sentencing by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) has again been delayed. Basson, who was found guilty by the HPCSA in 2013 of acting unprofessionally as the director of the apartheid government’s biological and chemical warfare unit, Project Coast, may have had one of the longest running trials in history. The initial complaints against him were filed with the medical board in 2000, only to be delayed until the conclusion of his criminal trial in Pretoria High Court. As director of... more »

Legal Experts urge killing Police State Bill

Rural at Democracy Under Fire - 16 hours ago
Last week more than 100 Legal Experts wrote a letter Urging Parliament to Amend or Kill Anti-Terrorism Bill C-51 The legal experts from across Canada are urging all parliamentarians to “ensure that C-51 not be enacted in anything resembling its present form.” They argue, in an open letter *published on the National Post*, that the federal government’s anti-terrorism bill is a “dangerous piece of legislation” that has not been given due debate. The text of the preamble of the open letter is reproduced below: *Dear Members of Parliament,* *Please accept this collective open letter as a... more »

*Judith Curry's reflections on the witch-hunt against skeptics* It looks like it is ‘open season’ on anyone who deviates even slightly from the consensus. The political motivations of all this are apparent from barackobama.com: Call Out The Climate Deniers. It is much easier for a scientist just to ‘go along’ with the consensus. In a recent interview, as yet unpublished, I was asked: I’ve seen some instances where you have been called a “denier” when it comes to climate change, I am just curious as to your opinion on that? How Was Net Neutrality Saved?

thwap at thwap's schoolyard - 17 hours ago
I'm always saying that petitions to psychopaths and afternoon demonstrations don't affect anything. But Net Neutrality was saved from the FCC caving to giant telecommunications firms without riots in the street or a political revolution. So what happened? Without having read any analysis of the victory, I'm going to speculate that elites realized that a multi-tiered internet service would cause a shit-storm that would cost much more than the extra profits to the telecom companies. Hackers. Angry consumers. Non-huge businesses seeking to use the internet. Netflix (not that huge, it... more »

When Will They Get Their Act Together?

Owen Gray at Northern Reflections - 18 hours ago
http://www.montrealgazette.com/ Ralph Surette has had Stephen Harper's number for a long time. He's a veteran journalist and he knows a charlatan when he sees one. Bill C-51 is a superb example of how Harper operates: Not that the bill doesn't have some good points -- but that's Harper's genius. He starts with a vaguely decent argument, then takes it to extremes -- but only to that precise extreme that can be muffled by the repetition of talking points. But the bill itself is only the half of it. The deeper, ignored part is that the ... more »

Boris Jefimovič Němcov (don't you prefer this Czech spelling?) was born in 1959. In 1985, he got a PhD from the Gorky State University (he later became a "candidate" of physico-mathematical sciences) and for five years, he worked as a research fellow in the Gorky Radio Physics Research Institute. He has actually authored over 60 publications (in Russian journals) in quantum physics, thermodynamics, and acoustics, including some papers about the "acoustics laser" that he invented, along with new designs for space-based antennas. After the 1986 Chernobyl blast, he became an anti... more »

Graphs at a glance: Would we get better MPs if we paid them an extra £10k per annum? The data suggests we would actually get worse!

Jake at Ripped-off Britons - 21 hours ago
MPs caught plotting ‘under the radar’ lobbying (on behalf of clients) for cash, are quick to use their mischiefs as an excuse to lobby (on behalf of themselves) for even more cash.  They claim if MPs were paid more we would get better quality MPs. Their assertion being: Some high powered people don't apply to be MPs because they don't want to take the pay cut. If they didn't have to take the

John Pell: a birthday

Luboš Motl at The Reference Frame - 22 hours ago
I am pretty sure it's the first time I write about John Pell, an English 17th century mathematician. He was born on March 1st, 1611, in Southwick, Sussex. When he was five and six, his father John Pell and mother Mary Holland of Kent died, respectively. However, his \(4+4=8\) kids didn't learn what it means to be an orphan: he only died when he was 74. During his life, he became an accomplished linguist, a diplomat, and he even proposed a universal language. He wrote about pedagogy, encyclopedism, and pansophy. Because he did all these pretty sophisticated non-mathematical things, ... more »

Those with the strength to succeed in the long run are the ones who lay a firm foundation of growth with the bricks that life has thrown at them. So don’t be afraid to fall apart for a little while. *"Book of Hours II, 16"* "How surely gravity's law, strong as an ocean current, takes hold of even the strongest thing and pulls it toward the heart of the world. Each thing- each stone, blossom, child- is held in place. Only we, in our arrogance, push out beyond what we belong to for some empty freedom. If we surrendered to earth's intelligence we could rise up rooted, like trees. Instead we entangle ourselves in knots of our own making and struggle, lonely and confused. So, like children, we begin again to learn from the things, because they are in God's heart; they have never left h... more »
