The mark of its insanity was, that of all Daleks in the great race of

The Emperor had decreed its creation.
They had ripped it from its birthing cradle, aware like all Daleks. They

The United States is the leading provider of weapons to the world, and the

Was It A Mistake To Spend Millions Of Dollars To Elect Right-Wing Democrat Gwen Graham In Florida?
Florida's 2 worst congressional Democrats
Almost a year ago, when she first declared her candidacy for the Florida

reactionary Blue Dog Allen Boyd in 2010, I managed to contact Bob Graham's

Will public school teachers become "independent contractors"?

My comment, posted at

Many college professors are now independent contractors, known as
"adjuncts." They are paid separately for each course they teach, and are
not paid very much, and get no benefits. As budgets at universities get
tighter, departments are gradually moving toward adjuncts.
Will public school teachers become independent contractors? This is, I

Washington Announces Mosul Campaign Plan To Placate Iraq Politicians

*Massachusetts Democrat Senator goes "ad hominem"*
*Senator Edward J. Markey has jumped on the bandwagon set in motion by the
recent NYT article about Dr Willie Soon. He's got nothing intelligent to

I think calling for him to resign or be sacked is ‘playing the man not the

How about invading Iraq for the simple purpose of collecting all weapons.

weapons found hidden and the property associated with that weapon. That at
least will make sure everybody digs it all up ahead of time. Then sweep

Geoffrey picked it up. So far it appears unlikely and... more »

'Missing Oil' from 2010 BP Spill Found on Gulf Seafloor

Yet the layer is actually very thin so even that may disappear quicker than

The take home is that 95% of spilled oil will disappear inside of five

Thus the best strategy always must be to stimulate biological activity as

"A Look to the Heavens"
"Beautiful Nebula discovered between the Balance [Libra] & the Serpent
[Serpens] ..." begins the description of the 5th entry in 18th century
astronomer Charles Messier's famous catalog of nebulae and star clusters.
Though it appeared to Messier to be fuzzy and round and without stars,
Messier 5 (M5) is now known to be a globular star cluster, 100,000 stars or
more, bound by gravity and packed into a region around 165 light-years in
diameter. It lies some 25,000 light-years away. Roaming the halo of our
galaxy, globular star clusters are ancient members... more »
Chet Raymo, “The Cosmography of Myself”
*“The Cosmography of Myself”*
by Chet Raymo
“It was a common conceit of the Middle Ages and Renaissance to think of the
human self– body and soul– as a microcosm, a little world made cunningly of
elements and an angel-like sprite, a miniature version of the macroscosm,
the universe. So-called "correspondences" linked the microcosm and the
macrocosm. For example, each of the seven holes in the human head
corresponded to a celestial body- Sun, Moon, or one of the five known
planets. Astrology articulated a vast system of correspondences between the
peregrinations of stars and human l... more »
"The Secret Of Surrender: Seeing The Illusion"
*"The Secret Of Surrender: Seeing The Illusion"*
by Madisyn Taylor, The DailyOM
"Surrender should be seen as a great strength and comes when we let go of
trying to attain the impossible. Most of us were raised and live in a
culture that emphasizes the ideals of independence and control. The general
idea is that we are on our own and we don’t need any help from anyone else,
and if we are really successful it’s because we are in complete control.
However, true lasting success comes only with surrender, which is the
opposite of control. We cannot accomplish anything truly great on our ... more »
Paulo Coelho, "The One Guilty Man"
*"The One Guilty Man"*
by Paulo Coelho
"Wise King Weng asked to visit the palace prison. And he began listening to
the prisoners’ complaints. ‘I’m innocent,’ said a man accused of murder.
‘I’m here simply because I wanted to give my wife a fright, but I
accidentally killed her.’ ‘I was accused of taking a bribe,’ said another,
‘but all I did was accept a gift.’
All the prisoners declared their innocence to King Weng, until one of them,
a young man of only twenty or so, said: ‘I’m guilty. I wounded my brother
in a fight and I deserve to be punished. This place has made me reflect on... more »

The Poet: Rainer Maria Rilke, "Ninth Duino Elegy"
*"Ninth Duino Elegy"*
"Praise the world to the angel: leave the unsayable aside.
Your exalted feelings do not move him.
In the universe, where he feels feelings, you are a beginner.
Therefore show him what is ordinary, what has been
shaped from generation to generation, shaped by hand and eye.
Tell him of things. He will stand still in astonishment,
the way you stood by the ropemaker in Rome
or beside the potter on the Nile.
Show him how happy a thing can be, how innocent and ours,
how even a lament takes pure form,
serves as a thing, dies as a thing,
while the violin, blessing it, fades... more »
"If You Have Come to Help Me..."

But if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine,
then let us work together."

"3 Simple Questions That Will Change Your Life"
*"3 Simple Questions That Will Change Your Life"*
by Jonathan
"I love simple solutions to seemingly complex issues, don’t you? So often
we seem to complicate the daylights out of things by over-analyzing,
dissecting and brainstorming. I gravitate toward simple solutions whenever
possible. Asking yourself the right question is one of the simplest ways to
direct your thoughts in a positive direction without jumping through a
bunch of mental or emotional hoops. What are the right questions? In
particular, those that stimulate your mind to consider new possibilities or
interrupt old es... more »

‘Net neutrality’ in a cartoon or two…
So how does it work?
Because "nothing says forward-looking for the 21st century like a regulated
utility."

- “The Federal Communications Commission recently announced new “net
neutrality” rules, ostensibly to guarantee a “free and open internet.” But
as the New York times reported, the new rules are “a strong hand to
regulate the internet.” In reading FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler’s defence of
his plan, one can uncover hidden threats to internet freedom.”

TV Watch: As the final run of "Mad Men" draws nigh, the question becomes, how much does Don Draper have to pay for his sins?
*The official "first trailer" for the final episodes of Mad Men. The first
of the final seven episodes airs April 5.*
*by Ken*
I have paid abundant tribute to the tight-lippedness of Vince Gilligan, the
creator-overseer of AMC's *Breaking Bad*, which has carried over into Vince
and Peter Gould's *Better Call Saul*. But Matt Weiner, the mastermind of
AMC's other great series, *Mad Men* is no slouch in the keeping-mum
department either. As the air dates approach for the final half-season's
worth of episodes, which launch April 5, Matt knows he has to feed the
insatiable publicity ma... more »
