Daily Mail *John Glaser, Time:* *Why We Should Close America’s Overseas Military Bases* *They do not support our core national interests* Despite our unorthodox presidential election, America’s overseas military bases are largely taken for granted in today’s foreign policy debates. The U.S. maintains a veritable empire of military bases throughout the world—about 800 of them in more than 70 countries. Many view our bases as a symbol of our status as the dominant world pow... more »

The Socialist Workers Party. Remember them? Famed, if that's the right word, for shameless opportunism, wrecking tactics, and poncing off movements they did little to build, they perhaps owned the worst reputation of any organisation on the far left. And that was before evidence of covering up a rape complaint, the hounding of one of the women concerned, and testimony of an abusive culture emerged. In short, anyone who remained a member of the SWP after all this came out must have a seriously twisted view of what socialist politics is about. Since this news broke, different parts o... more »

Basically, the battle for Aleppo is now almost over, with the US led "rebel" forces losing the battle for the eastern part of the city at a more rapid pace now.... Many so called "experts" have "predicted" that the Syrian army with its allies would not be able to take Aleppo before the end of this year, but apparently the fall may occur as early as this coming week! Oddly I can find nothing on the BBC about Hillary Clinton gloating at getting a man off a rape charge or her remarks about (and to) the women who accused her husband of various sexual offences. I'm sure there must be a reason other than sheer bias that would explain this disparity in BBC coverage but I'm unable to think of one.

The BBC report http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-37594928 that: 'Britain will be offered a free trade deal before the rest of the European Union if the Republicans win the US presidential election, Donald Trump's trade adviser has said. Dan DiMicco said Britain was "a friend" of America and was leaving the EU for the right reasons.' Yet another reason for the BBC to campaign against Donald Trump and for Hillary Clinton.

Largest Prison Strike In US History Protests Forced Slave Labor

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 22 hours ago
Realistically, half to two thirds of our prison population must be incarcerated to feed this monkey. It is easily ended also. Legislate the paying of minimum wage and pay those sums out to either the victims or the families in that order. Of course that would end corporate interest in this source of labor. Then maybe we can get on with the task of actual reform. So long as large corporations can benefit from this traffic it will. Right now family bread winners are been exploited and unable to support families. Those families are tossed onto the welfare roles for us to sup... more »

Pioneering Grandma Building Tiny Sustainable Homes Out of Hemp

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 22 hours ago
*[image: pam-bosch-hemp] * There has to be a binder involved of course and vertical strength may be a serious problem. Yet it produces cast walls with an excellent insulation value and can certainly take nails. Actually a good profile to replace mobile homes or even to be used by mobile home makers. Otherwise we are looking at tip up walls easily secured onto a concrete slab. The inside is easily lined with gyproc to provide natural air cleaning as well and to eliminate off gassing from the organics involved. It may well need stiffeners for ceiling panels but that is no i... more »

Entrepreneur Puts Prisons to Shame, Turns Ex-Cons into Bee-Keepers – Keeping them Out of Jail

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 22 hours ago
What beekeeping offers is a way for individuals to be engaged in agriculture without the capital burden of land that keeps so many out. This very good. add in the skill training and part time aspect of much of the work and you have a great set of training wheels for an individual plugging back into society after incarceration. We need much more of this thought out as well. *Entrepreneur Puts Prisons to Shame, Turns Ex-Cons into Bee-Keepers – Keeping them Out of Jail * *By Waking Times Media* *Posted on September 26, 2016 * *Sweet Beginnings, located in Chicago’s West Side... more »

Genesis for the New Space Age with John Leith - Chpt II - Early American Development of the Unconventional Aeroplane

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 22 hours ago
As before do read the intro. In the meantime this tells us a bit must much of it is also suspect. The idea of producing a wheel and rim based flying craft using conventional aerodynamics happens to be seductive and has attracted many inventors over decades. The core problem is that you push the stress points far from the rotational center of mass and this quickly overwhelms material strength. The apparent advantages become a serious problem. Thus i do presume that this will lead to something neat instead. We also get a look at how the military conducted business circa 1936. T... more »

Is America Prepared For Another War?

President Barack Obama makes Thanksgiving Day phone calls to selected U.S. troops. Pete Souza, White House *Matthew Continetti, Washington Free Beacon*: *The Guns of October* Column: Is America prepared for another war? The land of Syria is a hellscape. A desert ruin, a blasted place where fundamentalists clash with fascists as major powers—America, Russia, Turkey, Israel—drop bombs. After a U.S.-brokered cease-fire collapsed in recriminations, Washington responded by saying it wouldn’t talk to Moscow about the war. Then Moscow announced its intention to pull out of a nuclear agre... more »

“Gorgeous spiral galaxy M33 seems to have more than its fair share of glowing hydrogen gas. A prominent member of the local group of galaxies, M33 is also known as the Triangulum Galaxy and lies about 3 million light-years distant. The galaxy's inner 30,000 light-years or so are shown in this telescopic portrait that enhances its reddish ionized hydrogen clouds or HII regions. *Click image for larger size.* Sprawling along loose spiral arms that wind toward the core, M33's giant HII regions are some of the largest known stellar nurseries, sites of the formation of short-lived but ve... more »

"An Admirable Evasion..."

"This is the excellent foppery of the world, that when we are sick in fortune (often the surfeits of our own behavior) we make guilty of our disasters the sun, the moon, and stars: as if we were villains on necessity; fools by heavenly compulsion; knaves, thieves, and treacherous by spherical predominance; drunkards, liars, and adulterers by an enforced obedience of planetary influence; and all that we are evil in, by a divine thrusting on. An admirable evasion of whoremaster man, to lay his goatish disposition on the charge of a star!" - William Shakespeare, “King Lear”

*“On Winged Imagination”* by Chet Raymo “A sure test of dark skies is the ability to see with the naked eye the nucleus of the Andromeda Galaxy, the nearest large spiral galaxy to our own and the most distant thing - 2 million light-years - you are likely to see without optical aid. On literally hundreds of nights I have stood with a group of companions (of all ages) and unfolded the story illustrated by constellations in that part of the sky. Cassiopeia. Cepheus. Andromeda. Cetus. Perseus. Pegasus. The star Algol. It's a grand story that you can find here, one that has been a theme... more »
