Trump Knows Words.
*-by Melody* Trump: "I went to an Ivy League school. I'm highly educated. I know words. I have the best words, I have the best, but there is no better word than stupid. Right?” Oh, wait. Hang on there a minute, Mr. Trump. I found a dictionary site that listed your 20 most frequently used words, presented in a slideshow. Why does "stupid" come in at only #19, if it is the best word ever? The slideshow (linked above) gives examples of Trump quotes for the 20 words. This is a good resource for anyone who is having trouble remembering some particularly out of control, dangerous, ... more »

Chet Raymo, "Pigeons"
*"Pigeons"* by Chet Raymo "That old curmudgeon H. L. Mencken wrote: "The most common of all follies is to believe passionately in the palpably not true. It is the chief occupation of mankind." Admitting that no one- including this writer- is immune to self-delusion, still it is hard for anyone who respects empirical evidence to argue with Mencken. Half of Americans believe in ghosts. Getting a Feel for London 1889
My initial Penny Dreadful Cthulhu game was postponed by a week - I had to do some unexpected repair work on our front yard zombies, taking up time I'd planned on doing homework. Real world can be a bit rough sometimes... But hey - check out zombies at the end of this post. While the first game has been delayed a week I do have the first adventure ready - though I might do a bit of refining, map-making, etc. I do have to confess I find Victorian London to be a bit challenging. None of us are British so there's going to be no one going after me on details, but one thing I find intimid... more »
Did Mr. Sniffles Just Pick His Nose Too Aggressively?
Look, I don't want to get anyone in trouble-- and I know from personal experience that Trump is a litigious asshole-- but, without having ever been in the room to see it myself, the Palm Beach doctors who give Trump his fat and "beauty" treatments taught him how to chop up Adderall and snort it. I was sure it was cocaine the night of the first debate too, but they I got the inside scoop about the Adderall. Nonetheless, it's worth mentioning-- in light of the sniffle-fest Sunday's debate turned into-- that actress Carrie Fisher tweeted to her million-plus followers that Trump's a c... more »
Some things we can learn from the new Nobel winners
While not meaning to, the announcement that six Americans won science Nobels this year, all of them immigrants, should suggest something to all thinking people about the benefits from geniuses – and how it relates to thinking about people, especially immigrants, in clumps. (That is, it would suggest this to *thinking* people.) *J. Fraser Stoddart, born in Scotland, credited American openness with bringing top scientists to the country. He added, however, that the American scientific establishment will only remain strong "as long as we don’t enter an era where we turn our back ... more »
The Second Karen Lewis Sellout?
A Chicago teachers' strike that had been advertised for all the blogs to post about did not happen. You need to read George Schmidt at *Substance News* to get the story. A clip: . . . .Despite sometimes emotional defenses of the vote to accept the proposed contract and push the union's members into the deal, by early October 11, as people began studying the eight-page PDF outlining the deal, it was clear that the deal was in trouble. “Singing To The Deer”
*“Singing To The Deer”* by Patricia Monaghan “At solstice, the woods were bright in a snowy way, the sky pearl gray above the stately maples and gnarled burr oaks. An Alaskan marooned in the urban Midwest, it took me years to find this nearby patch of relatively undisturbed land where I can sense the power of wildness. "Half-dead, We Stand..."
"Time is ungovernable, but grief presents us with a choice: what do we do with the savage energies of bereavement? What do we do with the memory- or in the memory- of the beloved? Some commemorate love with statuary, but behavior, too, is a memorial, as is a well-lived life. In death, there is always the promise of hope. The key is opening, rather than numbing, ourselves to pain. Above all, we must show our children how to celebrate existence in all its beauty, and how to get up after life has knocked us down, time and again. Half-dead, we stand. And together, we salute love. Wikileaks: Clinton Insiders Want “An Unaware & Compliant Citizenry”
A newly released email between Clinton insiders John Podesta and Bill Ivey reveals how they “conspired” to keep the US public ignorant and docile. A Clinton campaign email released as part of the Wikileaks data dump on Monday, discusses the need to maintain political power by producing “an unaware and compliant citizenry”. In a leaked email to Clinton’s campaign chairman John Podesta, longtime Clinton campaign operative Bill Ivey wrote about his “deadly serious” concerns that Secretary Clinton was lacking in her ability to connect with the public….and they were losing their control... more »

New PUK-Gorran Alliance In Iraq’s Kurdistan While PUK Continues To Fracture
The political map in Kurdistan continues to be in flux. President Barzani’s refusal to step down after his term ended and his subsequent crackdown on the Gorran party led it to re-unite with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK). Gorran was originally a breakaway faction from the PUK calling for reform in the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). At the same time the PUK continues to face internal divisions since Jalal Talabani is out of the picture due to his health problems. The Poet: Frances Dana Gage, “Dare To Stand Alone”
*“Dare To Stand Alone”* “Be firm, be bold, be strong, be true, And "dare to stand alone;" Strive for the right whate'er ye do, Though helpers there be none. Nay, bend not to the swelling surge Of popular sneer and wrong; 'Twill bear thee on to ruin's verge, With current wild and strong. Stand for the Right! Humanity Implores, with groans and tears, Thine aid to break the fest'ring links That bind her toiling years. Stand for the Right!- proclaim it loud- Thou'lt find an answering tone In honest hearts, and thou no more Be downed to stand alone!” - Frances Dana Gage, 1869
The Intellectual Yet Idiot
*A clerisy of Intellectuals Yet Idiots (IYIs) has ben quietly hoovering up power around the west, a minority inner circle of no-skin-in-the-game policymaking “clerks” and journalists-insiders whose power-nannying is as odious as it is repellent.Nassim Taleb exposes the species in this guest post.* What we have been seeing worldwide, from India to the UK to the US, is the rebellion against the inner circle of no-skin-in-the-game policymaking “clerks” and journalists-insiders, that class of paternalistic semi-intellectual experts with some Ivy league, Oxford-Cambridge, or simil... more »
How Much Do People Hate The Intolerables Or Deplorables Or Whatever They're Called? Enough To Hunt Them Down?
Olbermann once all but insisted that the hard core Trump supporters all be rounded up and sent back to second or third grade to "start all over again." In the video above, from a few days ago, he's making a claim that normal Americans have as much right to be angry as these low-IQ intolerables do. He refers to these Trump supporters as "unthinking dolts... a third-rate demagogue's cult-like following whose members have turned off the reality switch in their heads and who got out of school, somehow, without being about to know the difference between the true, the possible and the ... more »

Costa Rica & Renewable Energy
By Paul Homewood http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/costa-rica-goes-75-days-powering-itself-using-only-renewable-energy-10126127.html Costa Rica is often held up as the shining paragon for renewable energy, showing the rest of us how we would run our economies on little more than wind, sun and fairy farts. The truth, you will not be surprised to learn, is rather different. It is certainly […]
Why is the Pentagon Painting War Planes to Match Russians?
The U.S appears to be painting some of its war planes to match the color schemes of Russian jets in Syria. What is up here? Standard training or preparing for monkey business? Hard to know but these days just about anything seems possible as the imperial war machine is in collapse mode....... I've been around long enough not to be surprised by anything. While in the Air Force during the Vietnam war I read the 'secret' Pentagon Papers cover-to-cover (released to the public by whistleblower Dan Ellsberg and printed in book form). Inside that history of the US war in Vietnam I lea... more »

What can be learned from such a spectacle? [updated] #debate
I was fascinated to hear the myriad of reactions to yesterday’s “debate” between the two aspiring presidential lizards. I’ve heard everyone discuss everything about the “debate” as a boxing match, as a horse race, as a battle of focus groups, as a forum on misogyny and “rape culture,” as a pugilistic fight-to-the-political death in which to either embarrass each other or threaten incarceration. Sounds like it was a “debate” unlike any the republic has ever seen before. But beyond the spectacle, what did anyone actually learn? The viewing audience would undoubtedly have heard c... more »
Happy Thanksgiving Day In Canada
*WNU Editor: *The GF's family is having a huge spread today and her parents have (cough cough) reluctantly invited me on the condition that I bring my mom (who .... of course .... they adore). So I am off to get some good food and drink and hope that I am in shape when I get back later tonight I can do some blogging. The above video is from the CBC on how Canadian Thanksgiving has changed over the years.
I Looked, and Behold, a Purple Horse, and They Who Sat On it Had the Name Clump
It took me four accounts before I could finally live-tweet the debate as the Totalitarian Twats of Twitter did what Twitter does and censored the first three for who knows how long this time. But live tweet it I did, even though I had to co-opt one of my book and writing accounts to do so, which must have looked strange to my bookish followers. But this post is based on those first impressions as I'd watched the live stream on that fascist social media site. First off, don't be fooled by the pyrotechnics of last night's debate, The Sham, Part Two. What we saw last night in... more »
The Return of Tony Blair
You can't keep a good man down. Or, depending on preferences, a bad stench always lingers. Yes, Saint Tony has pre-announced a possible comeback. Caught between the rock of ruinous Toryism and the hardplace "ultra-leftism" of the Labour Party, His Blairness has identified a yawning gap where the centre ground should be. We've been here many times before, including quite recently. The problem with any notion of the centre ground is it does not have a meaningful existence in the same way political values and the forces attached to them do. Blair had little time for such old hat, he t... more »
Video: When False Flags Don’t Fly
In the video below, James Corbett talks about staged events, otherwise known as false flags. Those who have studied history know that nothing invigorates and empowers an authoritarian regime more than a spectacular act of violence, some sudden and senseless loss of life that allows the autocrat to stand on the smoking rubble and identify himself as the hero. It is at moments like this that the public—still in shock from the horror of the tragedy that has just unfolded before them—can be led into the most ruthless despotism: despotism that now bears the mantle of “security.” Acts o... more »
The Fraud US Election: The Second US Presidential Election Debate - My Take
I have indeed been suffering from a really bad head cold over the last week... But finally last night I was feeling a bit better and decided to actually watch and listen to the second US Presidential debate between Donald Drumpf, and that mass murdering freakazoid that somehow passes for a human being called Hillary "Killary" Clinton..... I honestly could not even stand looking at Killary Clinton, and every time the camera focused on that creature my headaches seemed to return.... But I persevered and I figured I would file a report on what I saw here.... First, I must once again ma... more »

Dubai Lawyer To Sue Tony Blair For War Crimes In Iraq
A Dubai-based lawyer has started legal action against the former British prime minister Tony Blair, seeking his prosecution for committing war crimes and crimes against humanity during the invasion of Iraq in 2003. Nasser Hashem and his partners in Cairo, Dubai and London decided to take legal action against Blair after the publication, in July, of Chilcot’s long awaited report on the Iraq war. Right-Wing Crackpots Robert And Rebekah Mercer: "We Are Completely Indifferent To Mr. Trump's Locker Room Braggadocio"
*Rebekah Mercer, Long Island billionaire (center), doesn't care whose pussy Trump grabs* I don't think of myself as a philanthropist; in fact, it never crossed my mind until I sat down to write this post. But recently I gave a 7-figure endowment to a university, earmarked specifically to a program for kids from extremely poor families. About a year ago the school decided to honor me with a dinner and ceremony on campus. I was very flattered... until they told me who my fellow honoree was to be. It was none other than Ted Cruz's biggest single campaign donor, Robert Mercer, the far r... more »
"Debate"
I took advantage of last night’s insomnia by switching on the TV and watching two adults acrimoniously slagging each other off for our entertainment. (*Not *the Jeremy Kyle show) This morning various organs of the MSM presented their own special selections of the ‘best bits’. Early on, the BBC chose clips that made Hillary look good, whereas right-leaning media highlighted Trump’s mini victories, such as when Hillary constructed a cavernous own goal, saying something like: “Thank goodness Donald isn’t in charge of the law” to which he quickly replied, “Yes, because you’d be in jail”... more »
Seeing Like A State
As centuries passed, and the human herd swelled, the strains on society increased, often sparking friction. In an effort to discourage chaos, many societies became more structured — codes of rules, conflict resolution systems, hierarchies of control and coercion. Tribes formed alliances with others, and these confederations often merged into states. In a shark pool of ongoing growth and overshoot, weak states were vulnerable sitting ducks. The struggle for survival was a never-ending challenge. It encouraged better defenses, stronger offences, technological innovation, and ... more »

Peer-Reviewed Study: Most American’s Believe 9/11 Was Inside Job
The percentage of Americans questioning what mainstream media and politicians say about 9/11 has skyrocketed in the last six months, according to a new peer-reviewed study. When asked if 9/11 was a “new Pearl Harbour” designed to shock Americans into blindly accepting anything the government wanted to do, more people agreed than diasagreed. Asked if the Twin Towers could only have collapsed in on themselves at such speed if they were given some kind of ‘help’ to collapse (i.e., explosives), 39% of Americans believe that to be the case, while acceptance of the official narrative ha... more »
Mikhail Gorbachev Warns US and Russia About To Declare War
Mikhail Gorbachev has warned that the current state of relations between Russia and the US means World War 3 is almost inevitable. Gorbachev has urged both sides to resume dialogue about nuclear disarmament before it’s too late. “I think the world has approached a dangerous threshold. I would prefer not to suggest any particular schemes, but I want to say: we need to stop. Dialogue should be resumed. Stopping the dialogue has been the biggest mistake. Now we must return to the main priorities, such as nuclear disarmament, fighting terrorism and prevention of global environmental ... more »
Poll: Putin More Popular Than Clinton and Trump
According to a new poll, Russian President Vladimir Putin is more popular with American citizens than their two presidential candidates. U.S. citizens find Putin’s brutal honesty preferable to Clinton’s numerous lies and misdeeds and Trump’s shady business dealings. Moonofalabama.org reports: The tape of Trump talking dirty was released just in time to sidetrack from the release of more of Clinton’s dirty secrets by Wikileaks. Bolivia Ends War On Drugs By Banning DEA From Country
Bolivia have angered the U.S. government by kicking out the DEA from the country, declaring the so-called ‘war on drugs’ officially over. Since the coca-growing country legalized coca (the main ingredient in cocaine) and banned the DEA from operating in Bolivia, they have reported a drop in crime rates and violence. Naturalnews.com reports: The coca leaf – which can be processed into cocaine – has been used by indigenous South American cultures for thousands of years. In its unprocessed leaf form, it is normally chewed or made into tea, and provides a mild stimulant effect along ... more »
U.S. Test Drop Two Nuclear Bombs In World War 3 Drill
The U.S. Air Force dropped two ‘fake’ nuclear bombs in the Nevada desert earlier this month, in preparation for a potential World War 3 scenario. The drill was performed from the same B-2 bombers that flew over the South China Sea recently, sparking fears that this ‘drill’ was some kind of readiness exercise to prepare for war with China and/or Russia. Anonhq.com reports: The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) released this sorry excuse on Oct. 6, for the Nevada dessert exercise: “The primary objective of flight testing is to obtain reliability, accuracy, and perform... more »
