President Obama with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel last year. Credit Doug Mills/The New York Times *Eli Lake, Bloomberg:** Israel Braces for Obama's Parting Gift to Palestinians* When Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was re-elected last year, the White House threatened to reconsider long-standing U.S. policy to veto U.N. Security Council resolutions on Israel's presence in the West Bank. At issue was a last-minute interview in which Netanyahu said there would be no Palestinian state as long as he was prime minister. He took back that statement after the elec... more »

"A Look to the Heavens"
“Gorgeous spiral galaxy M33 seems to have more than its fair share of glowing hydrogen gas. A prominent member of the local group of galaxies, M33 is also known as the Triangulum Galaxy and lies about 3 million light-years distant. The galaxy's inner 30,000 light-years or so are shown in this telescopic portrait that enhances its reddish ionized hydrogen clouds or HII regions. *Click image for larger size.* Sprawling along loose spiral arms that wind toward the core, M33's giant HII regions are some of the largest known stellar nurseries, sites of the formation of short-lived but ve... more »
"An Admirable Evasion..."
"This is the excellent foppery of the world, that when we are sick in fortune (often the surfeits of our own behavior) we make guilty of our disasters the sun, the moon, and stars: as if we were villains on necessity; fools by heavenly compulsion; knaves, thieves, and treacherous by spherical predominance; drunkards, liars, and adulterers by an enforced obedience of planetary influence; and all that we are evil in, by a divine thrusting on. An admirable evasion of whoremaster man, to lay his goatish disposition on the charge of a star!" - William Shakespeare, “King Lear”

*“On Winged Imagination”* by Chet Raymo “A sure test of dark skies is the ability to see with the naked eye the nucleus of the Andromeda Galaxy, the nearest large spiral galaxy to our own and the most distant thing - 2 million light-years - you are likely to see without optical aid. Trump Is Likely To Go Crazy At The Debate Sunday
Trump doesn't necessarily believe in anything except Donald J. Trump. The world revolves around him and anything he might say at any given moment is simply a negotiating point. Republicans are already talking about how to clean up the party after he's crushed next month-- and who the 2020 nominee against Hillary will be. A Morning Consult poll released today, which surveyed GOP voters after the VP debate, shows Pence has made himself a top contender for the post-Trump GOP nomination. One of several top contenders. Hillary Admits Public Persona ‘Is Fake’ In Leaked Wall Street Speech
Hillary Clinton admitted to top Wall Street bankers that her public persona and policy positions are very different to the positions she actually holds in private. Excerpts of Clinton’s remarks during paid speeches to Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and other Wall Street banks were leaked online on Friday afternoon by Wikileaks, in the first of ten releases promised before November’s election. In a paid speech in 2013, Clinton admitted that on certain issues she holds “a public and a private position.” “If everybody’s watching, you know, all of the back room discussions and the deal... more »
Iceland Jail Top Bankers For 46 Years, Europe ‘Outraged’
Iceland has found nine top bankers guilty and sentenced them to decades in jail for crimes related to the 2008 economic crash. On Thursday Iceland’s Supreme Court returned a guilty verdict for all nine defendants in the Kaupthing market manipulation case, after a long running court trial which began in April last year. Kaupthing was a big international bank headquartered in Reykjavik, Iceland. It expanded internationally for years, but collapsed in 2008 under huge debts, crippling the small nation’s economy. Why the PUSH toward World War III?
I've been following the rise of jingoistic rhetoric emanating from both US political parties and Japan. Russia and China are the new enemies in this rhetoric, both of which threaten western (including Japan here) financial and political hegemony. The escalation of tensions echoes the build up to World War I, although fascistic tendencies that more closely resemble the build-up to World War II also echo. Tell me, why the push for World War III? Everyone knows its unwinable so why push toward it? Is it all charade, a grand distraction? What is it really going on here?
Fiction Review: From Hell
"One day men will look back and say I gave birth to the twentieth century." *From Hell *is a graphic novel written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Eddie Campbell. It concerns itself with the murders committed by Jack the Ripper in the late Victorian era. The story is not a mystery - we are privy who the murderer is from the very start. It is William Gull, physician. There is a theory that Gull was indeed the murderer, though it is not one that Moore says he found credible - he did, however, find it made for an interesting story. In the story, Prince Albert Victor ("Prince Eddy") ... more »

The Woolfe was on the Floor
And lo, we've gone from the Woolfe was at the door to him sprawling across the floor. I'd be lying if I said yesterday's altercation between UKIP leadership front runner Stephen Woolfe and the hitherto anonymous Mike Hookem didn't provide some entertainment in the office. It had bewilderment and humour, then a touch of tragedy when it sounded as if Woolfe's injury was very serious, and then back to larfs once he was declared okay. Bonus mirth was added after the rumour broke that Hookem was on the run from the French fuzz, and there had been a car chase. Politics often isn't very e... more »

Immigration v multiculturalism & “identity politics”
A Twitter exchange recently threw out some good ideas and great reading recommendations. Here’s my quick summary. She argues that Multi-culturalism, i.e., the idea that all cultures however barbaric are equal, is “balkanising” America and causing serious assimilation problems simply because Multi-culturalism offers immigrants no reason at all to assimilate, and every reason not to. Especially so when modern “identity poli... more »

And neither do the fact-checkers tasked with judging the candidates' own statements about it. During the course of 90 excruciating minutes, Tim Kaine accused Iran of "racing toward a nuclear weapon"
BWorld 84, Eliminate red tape in the Philippine energy sector
* This is my article in BusinessWorld last September 15, 2016. Which is more realistic and beneficial for consumers in reducing energy prices: removing the VAT (value-added tax) on electricity or removing the red tape and bureaucracy that stall construction of new power plants which will increase competition among players? This is the question that Dr. Ramon Clarete, faculty member, former Dean of the UP School of Economics (UPSE) and Fellow of the Energy Policy Development Program (EPDP), tried to answer during the EPDP lecture last week at UPSE. Dr. Clarete made various simul... more »

But, my HC Unit makes Helium by putting FOUR HC Units in a ring, feeding each other, ninety degrees out of phase with NO NET CHARGE or no recordable discharge. The New Cold War
We are engaged in a new Cold War. Tom Walkom writes: In the West, the old Cold War was portrayed as a battle between Communist dictatorship and capitalist freedom. Given that Russia has now embraced capitalism, those categories are no longer quite so neat. As a result, the new Cold War is a little vaguer. It is portrayed as a battle between thuggery and the rule of law — brutality versus niceness. In this scenario, the U.S. and its allies are said to be the nice ones. Russia, personified in its president, Vladimir Putin, is said to represent brutality. Calculated brutality is not... more »

Clear enough guidance
If - like Theresa May - you say that UK-born workers sometimes find themselves out of work because of low-skilled immigration, then the BBC's Reality Check has a simple message for you: You're wrong. Except during an economic downturn, "non-UK workers have no effect on the employment of UK-born workers", the BBC tells you (using Paul Johnson of the IFS's findings on the matter as the gospel truth). So that's you told! The BBC has spoken. (John Simpson would be so proud of them).

Some trivial responses to some serious matters
So much to cover, so little time. Theresa May. What did you think? Being inherently suspicious I wondered if her new New Labour approach was a cynical and cold-blooded attempt to poach disillusioned New Labour voters. It would be an understandable strategic manoeuvre before the next general election. The next thing I thought was that she had a really good hairdo. I rather like the choice of that unfussy dress for the occasion. The press described it as ‘bergundy’ or ‘magenta’. Without Pantone that colour has no definitive description. Have you noticed that Theresa has started walkin... more »
Sally Phillips’s Debut Documentary
The Times seems to have an inexhaustible number of TV reviewers, but the the one I usually agree with is Andrew Billen, so it was reassuring to read his take on Sally Phillips’s debut documentary “A World Without Down’s Syndrome?” Sally Phillips used a number of tricks from ‘The Office’ to soften the effect, but we were undoubtedly being manipulated. The development of a new non-invasive technique for detecting Down’s Syndrome in early pregnancy has raised an ethical dilemma. Will the increased number of aborted Down’s children lead to a kind of ethnic cleansing? Will the ‘Down’s ... more »

*"Weekly News Wrap-Up 10/7/2016"* By Greg Hunter’s USAWatchdog.com "The U.S. and Russia are a lot closer to war in Syria than the mainstream media (MSM) would like you to think. One top U.S general said that war would be “extremely lethal and fast” and he said it was “almost guaranteed.” Russia threatened to “shoot down U.S. aircraft over Syria. Meanwhile, Secretary of State John Kerry has broken off all diplomatic relations with Russia in Syria. The International Monetary fund (IMF) is warning of much slower global growth. The Grand Tour: The Trailer - Soon you'll be able to forget about the new Top Gear

Electric Universe - catastrosedimentation - the geological evidence...
Geology, is mostly powered by sedimentary rock formation over billions of years, but... ...what if MOST OF THE ROCKS OF THE EARTH were formed (not by sedimentary but) by catastrophic processes over *many times less* than billions of years? *Catastrosedimentation* is a word that combines the sedimentary and the catastrophic, because, right now, there's no proof either way that (short-term) catastrophy or (long-term) sedimentation is the cause of rocks and their serial layers. Electric Universe researchers suggest that Venus, Mars and Earth used to be CLOSER and IN A STRAIGHT LIN... more »
Roller Coasters Can Jostle out Kidney Stones
*. * This is important and should be applied. Most of us have or will develop kidney stones of some sort and it would be beneficial to be well rid of them. The take home is to simply take advantage of the local roller coaster even if you think you are long past it all. And if it becomes a real problem, run to that same coaster and work on it until the problem is resolved. anything beats surgery and all that goes with it. I suspect this also applies for gall stones as well.. *Roller Coasters Can Jostle out Kidney Stones * *By Michigan State University |* * September 26, 20... more »
Peruvian Indians Still Live in the Southern Tip of Appalachia
[image: Peruvian Indians Still Live in the Southern Tip of Appalachia] This tells us more of the untangling of ancestry that is going on in the SE. It is interesting that holdouts still exist out there in the mountains. This whole area of research needs to be housed and properly supported. This does mean setting up a proper department in a university that is at least partially funded and managed by the Indian elders who have the individual ethnic interests to heart. Deciding to forget all tribes and peoples and then call them Cherokee is an insult and discards vastly i... more »
Was Bolivia-Peru the Sunset Land of the Sumerians?
I had been seeing hints of this in other items. It also made sense once you understand that the European Bronze Age was a global enterprise and that it was dominated by the Altanteans centered on several landmasses that subsided 1159 BC. Yet it supplied top quality Lake Superior copper to the Great pyramid by 2400 BC. This also had a prehistory. This was the Bronze Age already in its maturity. Sumeria needed tin and getting it from the Andes was as easy as sailing the Mediterranean and taking the wind and currents to south America and the Amazon. We think it difficult but... more »

Claims: There are a whole bunch of claims here and many are on the surface preposterous yet possible at least. They could have happened. In that case the leaks received so far are almost laughable. Some of this stuff invites immediate dismissal. Yet the elephant in the living room is the complete confirmation of populations on all the planets and that we are part of a common genetic inheritance as well. Understan... more »

Russia has warned the U.S. that it will not hesitate to initiate World War 3 if they conduct strikes in Syria in order to oust President Assad. Russia currently has S-400 and S-300 air-defense systems deployed to protect its troops stationed at the Tartus naval supply base and the Khmeimim airbase. Across the spectrum, astronomical explorations of the obscuring interstellar clouds reveal energetic shocks and outflows associated with newborn stars, including the telltale reddish glow from scattered Herbig-Haro objects seen in this sharp image. *Click image for larger size.* Distant background galaxies also lurk on the scene, visually buried behind ... more »
Chet Raymo, “New Philosophy”
*“New Philosophy”* by Chet Raymo "It is one of Albert Einstein's most-often quoted quotes: "The most incomprehensible thing about the world is that it is at all comprehensible." Is the world comprehensible? Apparently at least partially so. Consider the NASA solar eclipse atlas I referenced the other day. It is possible to calculate the precise locations and times for solar eclipses thousands of years into the future and past. That's comprehensibility for you. Of course, there are still things we do not comprehend, such as consciousness or the development of organisms, but there i... more »
