"This NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope image shows the edge-on profile of the slender spiral galaxy NGC 5775, which is surrounded by a halo of gas that astronomers suspect is kicked up by star explosions like a galaxy-size fountain. A photo from the Hubble Space Telescope has revealed what scientists have called a veritable galactic "fountain of youth," one that would turn the fictional pirate captain Jack Sparrow of the Pirates of the Caribbean films green with envy. Journeying to the mythic Fountain of Youth is Sparrow's goal in in the adventure film franchise, "Pirates of the Cari... more »

Folk are celebrating that with the FBI reopening the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails, the fat lady is about to sing for her in an enticing orange-coloured jump suit. Not so fast. Note that James Comey’s announcement was made late on a Friday afternoon, precisely at the time when news is best buried. Florida Already Has The 2 Worst Senate Candidates in America-- Now Insert Trump Into The Mix

I don't think there's a state offering its voters a worse choice than the two losers running for the Senate in Florida, Republican doofus Marco Rubio and the far stupider "ex"-Republican/fake Democrat Patrick Murphy. These arterially two garbage candidates deserving of no votes at all. It's races like this one that make people yearn for a "none-of-the-above" choice on the ballot. The RealClearPolitics polling average shows Hillary leading Trump in Florida by a narrow 1.6%. The senate average there shows Rubio beating Murphy by a more formidable 3.6%. *"All Will Come Again"* by Rainer Maria Rilke "All will come again into its strength: the fields undivided, the waters undammed, the trees towering and the walls built low. And in the valleys, people as strong and varied as the land. And no churches where God is imprisoned and lamented like a trapped and wounded animal. The houses welcoming all who knock and a sense of boundless offering in all relations, and in you and me. No yearning for an afterlife, no looking beyond, no belittling of death, but only longing for what belongs to us and serving earth, lest we remain unused."

*by Ken* First off, I should specify that it has been many, many years since I took the SAT, and I understand that the test has undergone all sorts of changes since dinosaurs walked the earth. Also, while I did pretty well on the "verbal" portion of the test, I consistently did better on the math portion. (That's all there was in those antediluvian days.) This was surprising, in that I thought of myself, and was generally thought of, as more of a "word person" than, certainly, a math one. Part of my problem may have been the tiresome and unproductive habit of wasting time and tho... more »

*WNU Editor:* The website *Most Damaging Wikileaks* has made a list that they believe is the *Top 100 Most Damaging Wikileaks (so far).* I am glad that someone has taken the time to do this ... it is long overdue. Mosul Campaign Day Eleven, Oct 27, 2016

Joel Wing at MUSINGS ON IRAQ - 13 hours ago
The Mosul operation continued to go in fits and spurts. With the first phase of the operation coming to an end, there are days when there are fewer advances, which was what happened on October 27. On the other side, IS was building its defenses while exploiting and murdering civilians. The U.S. also tried to mediate between Iraq and Turkey once more, and there was more displacement from the fighting. From October 26-27, the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) and Peshmerga freed over two dozen towns. On October 26 twenty towns were declared liberated, but seven of them were said to have ... more »

The Republican Wing Of The Democratic Party Rides Again

DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 1 day ago
How do you know which congressional candidates-- often without records, or without easily accessible records-- you should vote for? Many people just base it on party ID. People who identify with the Democratic Party, for whatever reason, vote for Democratic candidates and people who identify with the Republican Party, vote for Republican candidates. I bet that accounts for upwards of 70% of the electorate. But on both sides of the political divide, there has been a realization dawning that not all Democrats (and, to a lesser extent, not all Republicans) are the same. There's this... more »
