Solar Could Generate 15% of Power by 2020, If US Ends Fossil Fuel Subsidies

Solar power technologies could generate 15 percent of America's power in 10 years, but only if Washington levels the playing field on subsidies, a report by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) says.

That means either rolling back fossil fuel subsidies, as President Obamaproposed earlier this year, or increasing subsidies for clean energy.

Greenhouse gas decision is target of coordinated protest by Louisiana agencies

The Jindal administration is mounting a coordinated campaign against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's plan to regulate the man-made gases thought to be responsible for climate change and has filed lettersprotesting the potential economic dislocation of the proposed policy.

An Array of New Interests Joins Washington’s Climate Change Debate
Dec 28, 2009
By Marianne Lavelle
and M.B. Pell
Center for Public Integrity

The next round of the battle over climate change policy on Capitol Hill will involve more than the usual suspects. Way more. Watch soup makers face off against steel companies. Witness the folks who pump gas from the ground fight back against those who dig up rock. And watch the venture capitalists who have money riding on new technology try to gain advantage in a game that so far has been deftly controlled by the old machine.
In short, even though President Obama pledged to the world at Copenhagen that the United States is committed to action on global warming, the domestic politics are only growing “curiouser and curiouser,” as Alice might say from Wonderland.
I must start out with a disclaimer. I am biased on this topic. I desperately want the answer to be yes, cooking can save the planet.
That’s because in August, I committed to 365 days of scratch cooking after being inspired by a Michael Pollan article on the decline of cooking and the subsequent rise in the packaged food industry.

America produces a lot of food. So much food, in fact, that it is one of the world’s major food exporters, and so much grain and soy that we turn much of it into ethanol to power our cars.
Even excluding the calories that we export or turn into agro-fuels, per-capita caloric availability was 2,700 calories per person in 2007. That’s plenty of food. [Excel link]. No one should be hungry in a country that produces that much food.
But that doesn’t mean that many aren’t going hungry. The latest USDA survey results show that 14.6 percent of the American population — 17 million households — was food-insecure at some point in 2008. “Food insecure” means that the food consumption of one member of the household, or more, was reduced because they lacked for money or other ways to access food. That number shot up from 13 million households in 2007, 11.1 percent of the population.

You may think it a strange statement at first – but there is little to no doubt that the next war will pay for itself. It is just as true that the present unlawful, undeclared wars in Iraq and Afghanistan will pay for themselves. War pays! That’s one reason it’s so damned popular.
The question is not whether wars pay for themselves. The bills of war get paid – All of the bills plus Interest and Penalties. In fact, the initial cost is only part of the picture. You can bet those who make it their profession to make big money on big wars will continue to get paid very well. In fact, we have a surplus of "patriotic" contractors in our own country who would give their right arm [not literally of course] to get the next big juicy contract to build and rebuild and rebuild the same infrastructure in Iraq. They seem to salivate over such things. Business is slow at home in their native land.
I doubt very much that they can be disturbed by ethical nuances. And who can blame them? They didn’t start the war. Their clients, customers and cronies did. Hopefully they will make enough to keep up their commitments for political contributions.
The long-term profits of war are Not Unintended Consequences!

Maybe there are some really good top-secret reasons for this war?

  1.  Russia needs to develop "offensive strike systems" to preserve strategic balance with the United States, without producing its own missile defense, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said Tuesday.
Putin's comment, made at a press briefing in the far eastern Russian city of Vladivostok, echoed a similar call fromRussian President Dmitry Medvedev last week.
"If we want to retain the balance, we have to establish an exchange of information: Let the U.S. partners provide us information on [their] missile defense while we will give them information on [our] offensive weapons," Putin said.
Putin also spoke positively about ongoing negotiations between the two countries on a new nuclear arms control agreement that would replace the U.S.-Russian START treaty, which expired December 5.
The United States and Russia plan to complete it and sign it at the beginning of 2010, Russian and American leaders have said. As envisioned, the new treaty would significantly reducenuclear arms on both sides.

    The American Thinker

    The Scientific Technological Elite

President Dwight D. Eisenhower's famous 1960 farewell address contained more than an admonition about the danger of an expanding "military-industrial complex." That speech was also an early warning of the current unholy alliance between the government and a scientific community dependent on the government for its funding.

Americans have steadfastly recalled Eisenhower's initial clarion call, especially in political debates concerning the size of annual defense budgets:

... we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence...by the military-industrial complex.... Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together [i].

However, little attention has been given to an equally important warning that Eisenhower issued in the same farewell address: the danger that public policy might become the captive of a scientific technological elite.

... [In] the technological revolution during recent decades ... research has become central ... complex, and costly. A steadily increasing share is conducted for, by, or at the direction of, the Federal government ... the solitary inventor ... has been overshadowed by task forces of scientists in laboratories and testing fields ...

... the free university, historically the fountainhead of free ideas and scientific discovery, has experienced a revolution in the conduct of research. Partly because of the huge costs involved, a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity.

The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present and is gravely to be regarded. ... we must ... be alert to the ... danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific technological elite [ii].

Governments will gleefully fund anything that grows its power and control.

    F. A. Hayek mentions in his 1944 book The Road to Serfdom the danger of a support of monopolistic organisation of industry from WWII political remnants:

"Another element which after this war is likely to strengthen the tendencies in this direction will be some of the men who during the war have tasted the powers of coercive control and will find it difficult to reconcile themselves with the humbler roles they will then have to play in peaceful times."

History is riddled with the mischief of disinformation. The current campaign of miscreant "climate science" is not only an example; there's an excellent chance that AGW will go down as the greatest fraud in science history.

Corn to ethanol was and is just a very small indication of the arrogance and ignorance of those who would shackle us in chains. Poverty stricken people all over the world depend heavily on corn for sustenance. Yet corn here in the U.S. (and other nations) was pegged as a “great green” solution to petro pollution by the green socialists. How many children, old people and others became starved as a result of this ethanol scam?

Should we hand out instructions to poverty stricken human beings on how to eat ethanol? This is a morally disgusting example of green morality.

The progeneration of AGW as though it were a proven science is an abomination; an act of barbarism and inhumanity.

Those who propagate this insanity are “progressives.” Progressives are socialists*. We were taught by schools, government and media, for instance, that the USSR was communism. Communism NEVER existed in one single society/government in the history of the world. The Soviets were actual-existing socialists. They placed their slaves in chains, telling them that communism was the goal – “heaven on earth.” In reality, the Soviets murdered about 63 million people in less than 70 years of the 20th century.

AGW has nothing to do with science and everything to do with slavery - and death. Socialism already masqueraded as communism. Now socialism masquerades under the mantle of progressivism.

Barrack Obama is an angry, hard left socialist. He wants you to follow him to his vision of “hope” and “change.” The only thing Obama has in mind is the total destruction of the free market and freedoms. That's who hard left socialists are.
( *  I can find no common definition of 'socialists'.
It was, in fact, part of the proper name of the German Nazi Party ! Right or Left Wing is meaningless :  Police State or Authoritarian State is much more informative. Definitions of Political Systems are sometimes hard to track even when you know what you're looking for. That's why Perception Alteration lists 2 'chameleon' systems from Wikipedia's mind-blowing list. )
