How Help from America Is Making Russia's AK-47 Even Deadlier
*Charlie Gao* *Security, * One part, to be specific. The AK-47 is known as one of the most reliable weapons in the world due to its powerful action and loose-enough tolerances. There are countless videos on the internet of the AK’s action chewing up anything that stands in the way while cycling. However, this reliability comes at the expense of recoil. From the factory, most 7.62x39 AK rifles are deliberately overgassed, causing them to have a choppy recoil impulse, rendering the rifle less controllable than it could be. However, recently, an American company has made an innovat... more »
Gun Battle: Can Glock Beat This 100 Year Old Gun?
*Kyle Mizokami* *Security, * We take a look. *One of the major advantages of the 1911 is that it can be carried in so-called “Condition One” status with a loaded magazine, round in the chamber, hammer back, and the safety on. This is considered the only safe way to carry a loaded 1911 and only requires the gripping the pistol (to engage the grip safety) and depressing the safety to fire. The 1911 is also remarkably slim, lending itself to concealed carry.* Over the past hundred years there have been two guns that have defined semiautomatic pistols in the United States. Fibonacci: Revolution by 10 Numerals
Statue of Fibonacci (1863)What Leonardo Pisano, who is better known as Fibonacci, did in the thirteenth century with the publication of *Liber Abbaci* (*Book of Calculation*) was every bit as revolutionary for the field of mathematics as the revolution that Copernicus brought in the field of astronomy. Pisano’s book introduced the system of 10 numerals to the masses— it took computing from a small group of mathematicians, and made it available to and usable by almost everyone. When Pisano’s father moved from Pisa to the North African port of Bugia (now in Algeria), in around 1185, ... more »

*The Purely Imaginary ‘Rightward Transformation’ in Higher Education* One of the most peculiar claims to gain currency in higher education holds that academia has become captive to nefarious monied interests on the political right. Writings in this genre almost always hail from scholars on the left, and attribute a variety of problems in the academy—both real and imagined—to the ulterior-motived influence of conservative and libertarian donors.
