Can North Carolina Democrats Replace Unpopular Obstructionist Richard Burr (R) With Deborah Ross (D)?

DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 25 minutes ago
North Carolina Senator Richard Burr isn't all that popular back home and he'll have to face the voters in November in a race against former state Rep. and former North Carolina head of the ACLU, Deborah Ross. Last week, each won their respective primaries, Burr with 437,136 votes (61.9%) and Ross with 445,772 votes (63.3%). As of the February 24 FEC deadline Burr had spent $2,693,982 on his race and Ross had spent $635,999 on hers. He has a massive $5,312,89 war-chest and she has about $5 million less. (I might add that the industry that has been most generous to Burr this cycle i... more »

Welcome to Port Henry

Daniel Stack at 19th Level - 1 hour ago
Our Icons campaign has a home city that actually has a name. We worked through a few possible names and came up with Port Henry. Our city occupies where, in the real world, can be found New Jersey's Great Bay. Though it is indeed a decent sized bay, it averages about five feet depth. It is one of the nation's best preserved wetlands so I feel a little guilty virtually draining and dredging much of it. To be honest, we didn't quite know what Port Henry was named for, it just sounded neat. It brought to mind Henry Hudson, though cities tend not to be named after a person's first na... more »

*George Friedman, Geopolitical Futures:* *The Cycle of Terrorism* Identifying terrorists requires a shift in intelligence methods. Summary The attacks in Belgium will set in motion an old cycle: massive alerts, terrorists going to ground, relaxing the alert, the re-emergence of the terrorist. Identifying terrorists consistently is almost impossible by existing means. The only strategy that might work is human intelligence – spies penetrating terrorist groups – but it is stunningly difficult. The choice is living with terrorism or adopting new strategies, as the old ones stop some ... more »

Brussels Attack Looks Like Another False Flag. Here’s Why

Tuesday’s terrorist attacks at a Brussels airport and metro station (coincidentally next to NATO and EU headquarters) has all the hallmarks of a false flag event – designed to further the New World Order agenda to push through Orwellian domestic laws, surveillance, and justify ongoing wars in the Middle East. Early research suggest there are four clues pointing to a false flag: the ‘convenient’ timing of the event, NATO’s involvement, the location, and the symbology around the attacks. Walk in the Park

The weather a bit cooler this past weekend in Calgary compared to the weekend previously but with the better part of a day to kill I wasn't about to let that stop me from enjoying some otherwise clear skies. My initial plan was to wander down along the Elbow River but I found myself instead at Prince's Island Park. I hadn't initially planned to do any birdwatching this time around since I had just been here a week previously and didn't have any expectations. The bombings in Brussels yesterday was horrible. More than 30 people died and several hundreds injured. And just a few months ago, several dozens also died when many areas in Paris were bombed. Better weapons to secure are micro too -- CCTVs, drones, cyber intelligence, spies. Flashpoints like the South China Sea or... more »

*Adam Taylor, Washington Post*:* Why is Brussels under attack?* Brussels was hit by a number of deadly explosions on Tuesday, with all signs pointing toward a coordinated terror attack. It's a shocking turn of events, but for anyone closely observing the city over the past few years, it wasn't exactly a surprise: While the Belgian capital had once been known best as a center for European culture and politics, its reputation had been tainted recently because of links to extremism and terror plots. One day in April 2007, I was anxious, not knowing what I could do after hearing an unbelievable story about naval base construction in my village. Now the base has become a reality and the Gureombi rock covered by cement for the base construction has become a memory. The hill where ... more »

Campaign watch: Okrent can't say how he'd cover Trump!

bob somerby at the daily howler - 1 day ago
*TUESDAY, MARCH 22, 2016We're happy to say that we can:* We're going to admit it. Of all the journalists in the past twenty years, Daniel Okrent, for some unknown reason, just may annoy us the most. We have no idea why that is. We don't intend to defend that reaction. We offer it as an act of irrational full disclosure. More than a decade ago, Okrent was the New York Times' very first public editor. For unknown reasons, Slate's Isaac Chotiner has interviewed him on the subject of the press corps' coverage of Candidate Trump. Inevitably, Okrent is quite defensive concerning the hig... more »

The EU Agrees to Agree On Climate!

Paul Homewood at NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW THAT - 1 day ago
By Paul Homewood The European Council summit meeting last Friday devoted most attention to the migration crisis. However, they were also meant to discuss climate and energy policy. Below is the official conclusion from the summit. It embodies all of the fudge that we are so used to seeing in EU affairs, contains […]

There Are More U.S. Military Personnel In Iraq Than What Is Being Acknowledged

War News Updates Editor at War News Updates - 1 day ago
*Washington Post*: *The U.S. military has a lot more people in Iraq than it has been saying* The U.S. military has around 5,000 service members in Iraq, officials said on Monday, far more than previously reported, as the Obama administration quietly expands ground operations against the Islamic State. The number of American forces in Iraq has come under increased scrutiny following the death over the weekend of a Marine staff sergeant, the second combat casualty in renewed U.S. operations in Iraq. He was killed when militants launched rockets at a small U.S. base around the city o... more »

Bernie Sanders And Ted Cruz Respond On Today's Terror Attacks In Brussels

War News Updates Editor at War News Updates - 1 day ago
*Washington Post:* *Cruz criticizes Obama and Trump in wake of Brussels attack* Sen. Ted Cruz slammed President Obama for “going to baseball games with the Castros” in Cuba and Donald Trump for questioning the need for the U.S. alliance with NATO in the wake of Tuesday's terrorist attacks in Brussels. “While our friends and allies are attacked by radical Islamic terrorists, President Obama is spending his time going to baseball games with the Castros and standing at a press conference with Raul Castro as a prop, while Castro denies there are any political prisoners in Cuba,” Cruz ... more »

John Oliver Exposes Insanity of Trump's Border Wall

Marc McDonald at BeggarsCanBeChoosers.com - 1 day ago
. . *By MARC McDONALD* A lot of progressives despise and fear Donald Trump. I don't. While Ted Cruz does creep me out (and frightens the hell out of me), there are actually some things I admire about Trump. I mean, it took some big balls to stand on a GOP debate stage and repeatedly blast the decision to invade Iraq. We've been doing that at this blog for years. I've gotta tell ya, there's a certain sense of vindication when the GOP frontrunner is basically saying the same thing about Iraq that we've been saying since 2003. There's a couple of other things that I'll admit I like a... more »

“The Decline and Fall of the American Empire”

noreply@blogger.com (CoyotePrime) at Running 'Cause I Can't Fly - 1 day ago
*“The Decline and Fall of the American Empire”* by Bob Moriarty “While the corruption at the national level has been obvious for years to anyone willing to open their eyes and their mind at the same time, this election cycle marks an important turning point. I’m not a Trump fan. The idea that we can build a fence between Mexico and the US and somehow force Mexico to pay for it is on its face, absurd. In the most undiplomatic of terms, two former presidents of Mexico essentially told Trump where he could put his wall. And the mechanics of identifying anyone who might be a Muslim and...more »

Government: "Fascism, American Style"

noreply@blogger.com (CoyotePrime) at Running 'Cause I Can't Fly - 1 day ago
*"Fascism, American Style"* By John W. Whitehead "If we define an American fascist as one who in case of conflict puts money and power ahead of human beings, then there are undoubtedly several million fascists in the United States." - Henry A. Wallace, 33rd Vice President of the United States This is an indictment of every politician who has ever sold us out for the sake of money and power, it is a condemnation of every politician who has ever lied to us in order to advance their careers, and it is a denunciation of every political shill who has sacrificed our freedoms on the alta... more »

As We Shift - Remnants of Polarity

Sophia Love at AMERICAN KABUKI - 1 day ago
It’s tempting now to latch on to a story or explanation that sort of resonates, perhaps really rings “true”; and then listen to that one storyteller only. There are so many of us storytellers. These are uncertain times and when you find something to believe in, you hold on. What is unsettling in all that behavior is the emergence of polarity – even amongst the loudest advocates for unity. It seems we don’t know how to do this any other way. If someone is “right” – everyone else must be “wrong”. The thing is, if it is “truth” you are looking for, everyone is “right”. Truth is ... more »

“A big mistake:” Paper about the dangers of Wi-Fi pulled for plagiarism

Shannon Palus at Retraction Watch - 1 day ago
A report that presents guidelines for treating people allegedly harmed by signals from Wi-Fi and mobile phones was pulled two weeks after publication for plagiarism. However, the retraction note, published in the March issue of Reviews on Environmental Health, doesn’t use the word “plagiarism,” and instead blames the move on lost citations and errors. The editor of the journal, David Carpenter, told us […] The post “A big mistake:” Paper about the dangers of Wi-Fi pulled for plagiarism appeared first on Retraction Watch.

Hillary Clinton Comments On Today's Terror Attacks In Brussels
