Harper's Perps with Perks #17

Alison at Creekside - 24 minutes ago
Dean Del Mastro - Stephen Harper's Parliamentary Secretary, Ethics Committee appointee, and elections fraud pointman for the Cons in the HoC - went off to the big house today in a real life perp walk complete with shackles. He was convicted eight months ago on four counts of Elections Canada charges and trying to cover it up. "Why, Mr. Speaker, why?" he wailed in the HoC two years ago before resigning the Con caucus to keep his pension intact. Sentenced today to a month in prison plus four months house arrest and eighteen months probation, he will probably be out ag... more »

Machiavelli's The Prince (1513) Chapter XXIII: How Flatterers should be Avoided I do not wish to leave out an important branch of this subject, for it is a danger from which princes are with difficulty preserved, unless they are very careful and discriminating. [image: USS Chancellorsville (CG62)]The U.S. Navy is aiming to significantly beef up its forward-deployed presence in Japan. As a first step toward that goal, the USS Chancellorsville, a modernized guided-missile cruiser, returned to the naval base in Yokosuka, south of Tokyo, June 18. This is the first time in 23 years the Navy has increased the number of vessels at Yokosuka, its largest overseas naval base. The understood -- though unspoken -- U.S. aim is to counter the military buildup of China, particularly at sea. The Chancellorsville is the first U.S. ship equipped with the l... more »

Surface Navy Concerned Reduced Destroyer Modernizations Will Increase Risk in Future Fights

Ko Savonije at Naval Open Source INTelligence - 20 hours ago
[image: USS William P. Lawrence (DDG 110)]The Navy’s reduced combat system modernization schedule for its legacy Arleigh Burke guided missile destroyers (DDG-51) puts the surface fleets ability to tackle ballistic missile defense (BMD) tasks — as well as protect high value ships like aircraft carriers — at risk, the service’s director of surface warfare told Congress. What’s at issue is the balance between the global proliferation of cheaper and more effective guided weapons, U.S. military demand for ballistic missile defense ships, reduced modernizations to existing destroyers and ... more »

Ko Savonije at Naval Open Source INTelligence - 20 hours ago
[image: FA-50PH first flight]Racing against time to rebuild the country’s air defense capabilities, the first lead-in supersonic fighter trainer jet acquired by the Philippine Air Force (PAF) made its first successful maiden test flight in South Korea last week. Delivery of a pair of brand-new FA-50 fighter jets by Korean Aerospace Industries (KAI), a South Korean-defense supplier that bagged the country’s defense contract for a squadron of this type of fighter aircraft, is scheduled in the last quarter of this year or early next year. The test flight of the newly manufactured FA-50... more »

Tony Abbott promises 'continuous build' of major warships

Ko Savonije at Naval Open Source INTelligence - 20 hours ago
[image: Prime Minister Tony Abbott]Prime Minister Tony Abbott has promised to ensure a constant flow of work to shipyards to ensure the Royal Australian Navy is equipped to meet any seaborne threat. Three major shipbuilders, Melbourne based BAE Systems Australia and Newcastle based Forgacs and Adelaide based ASC, are all laying off staff due to the stop start nature of warship work. The layoffs have been triggered by a wind-down in work on the $9 billion project to build three air warfare destroyers for the Navy. Read more

Japan May Join U.S. in South China Sea Patrols

Ko Savonije at Naval Open Source INTelligence - 21 hours ago
Japan’s military may join U.S. forces in conducting regular patrols in the South China Sea, according to the nation’s top uniformed officer, underscoring how China’s territorial claims are encouraging Tokyo to play a greater role in regional security. Adm. Katsutoshi Kawano, chief of the Joint Staff of the Japan Self-Defense Forces, said in an interview that China’s recent moves to build artificial islands have created “very serious potential concerns” for Japan, a trading nation that relies on the sea lane that runs through the area. “Of course, the area is of the utmost importanc... more »

[image: Type 041 (Yuan / S-26T) class SSK]Within a matter of weeks, the navy will know if its dreams of having submarines of its own will become a reality. A source in the navy said a committee working on a plan to buy submarines has finalised its option - it's likely to go for the Chinese-made submarines - and will submit the proposal to the cabinet for approval next month. This is the navy's second bid under the leadership of Adm Kraisorn Jansuwanit to gain the nod for its submarine plan. Read more

Australia Plans Mach 20 Scramjet in 2018

This is unexpected, but scramjet work is moving forward. It is the only convenional way in which an aircraft can really fly into space. At least in theory and we are pushing those limits here. Any facility like this would be imensely welcome. *Australia plans mach 20 scramjet in 2018 that can fly 120 miles in 30 seconds* *June 09, 2015* *http://nextbigfuture.com/2015/06/australia-plans-mach-20-scramjet-that.html* *Australia's DSTO has been doing hypersonic experiments in Woomera, South Australia and Norway. In 2018, it plans to launch a glider with an air-breathing scramjet en... more »

What Are The Bright Spots On Ceres?

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 21 hours ago
Whatever it turns out to be, it will most certainly be a convenient resource of which we have so far found little. It is reasonable that this resource will facilitate exploration and real dwevelopment in the Asteroid belt as well. It is a wonderful start. We have always presumed that the asteroid belt will be a convenient cornucopia of metallics in particular as well as all other elements. That may not be true at all ,but at least we now see ample volatiles. The rest must wait until we get out there with ample eyeballs and tools. . * What Are The Bright Spots On Cer... more »

Giant Sloth Kill Dump Discovered?

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 21 hours ago
This is incredibly unusual and it naturally excludes all known predators including man. I also do not see Bigfoot doing this although Bigfoot is able to at least carry a carcass to such a location and then dump it. It is just that Bigfoot has zero reason. They consume game in much the same way as any carnivore. At best they carry it back for their mate and cubs. This is much more likely a cache site belonging to a Giant Sloth. The Giant sloth consumes the maggots on decaying flesh and the Giant sloth does cache it's kills. Such a site and behavior was described unknow... more »

The Sumerian King List Spans for Over 241,000 Years Before a Great Flood

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 21 hours ago
The flood swept over the Earth is an exact description of the behavior of the Pleistricene Nonconformity that occurred about 12,900 years ago. The Kingship descending after that flood is also an exact description of Noah's landing and of the original advent 250.000 years ago. Humanity as we know it was likely created as a hybrid of an alien genome and a Terran advanced primate already likely a natural hybrid between a Boar and a female chimpanzee or close equivalent. Plenty of real evidence is showing up for all this as well. We should actually run breeding experiments to con... more »

*Washington Times*: *Congress ponders: OPM data breach could total 32 million Americans* *As many as 32 million Americans might have had their most sensitive data stolen in a breach of the federal government's human resources agency computers, lawmakers speculated Wednesday as pressure grew on President Obama to oust the woman who heads the agency that botched its cybersecurity.* *Katherine Archuleta, director of the Office of Personnel Management, fought for her job, telling the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee that she, herself, is likely a victim of the breach a... more »
