Election 14, The Middle Earth of PH Politics, by Doy Romero
The Presidential and local elections in the Philippines are just 10 1/2 months away. Generally it will be a battle between which side of Big Government advocates will prevail. Nonetheless, we can delineate or distinguish them which side will advance Big Government + Big Private Monopolies and Oligopolies, vs. Big Government + Competitive Economy. I think the old and traditional politicians like VP Binay belong to the former while newbies like Sen. Grace Poe may belong to the later, am not sure. What about good governance? More from Castlecrag
So just in case you missed the answer to my question posed on Monday: my (very poor) photos were posted from a place called Castlecrag, which is a suburb embracing Sydney’s Middle Harbor that was developed, designed and laid out in the 1920s by former Frank Lloyd Wright architect Walter Burley Griffin He and his wife Marion Mahoney (another Frank Lloyd Wright alumni) designed 40 delightful stone and “knitlock” houses for the “natural subdivision,” of which 15 were built. You might call it “Walter Burley Griffin’s Australian Eden.” His aim was a community of modest houses sharing... more »

Constantine vs. Emory
*Dave Emory's Politics of Acrimony* By Alex Constantine Every Thursday morning at midnight, the Superman theme song rises and ebbs behind the euphonic voice of "Something's Happening" host Roy Tuckman. The program airs over Pacifica's KPFK-FM in Los Angeles, an alternative, Tuckman boasts, to the claustrophobic conservatism of corporate-sponsored talk radio. "Something's Happening" attempts to expose secret corruptions of government, and Tuckman is a passionate political voice. But his attempt to provide an alternative is marred by his choice of programming: Dave Emory, origin... more »
What the Confederate flag stands for
For the most tragic of reasons, but it’s good that apologists for the antediluvian US Confederacy and the war it started are being publicly called out. And for those who aren’t sure what they stood for, as *The Atlantic *says, “The meaning of the Confederate flag is best discerned in the words of those who bore it.” It was in South Carolina that the Civil War began, when the Confederacy fired on Fort Sumter. Lee Hooper et al., 2015 - the latest Cochrane meta-analysis of saturated fat reduction RCTs
A new Cochrane meta-analysis of saturated fat reduction trials by Lee Hooper et al. has barely made a splash in the blogosphere, and my mention of it on Twitter barely merited a retweet. This is a pity, because this is a question that is not really resolved. A matter of particular interest to me about RCT meta-analysis is whether it agrees with prospective cohort meta-analysis. Another feature of Hooper's work that's instructive, which I intend to discuss, is her ongoing disagreement with Dariush Mozzafarian's analysis of fatty acid substitution. *Reduction in saturated fat intak... more »
Don't Blame the Council
Documentaries looking at how local authorities are coping with the cuts tend not to end happily. Ask Stoke-on-Trent. I think the same can be said about tonight's featurette, *Don't Blame the Council*, featuring Wigan Council. Unlike the Stoke experience, this focused on the council's employees in one section: Environmental Services. And, unfortunately, thanks to some ill-judged admissions by some workers and some sharp editing - of which more shortly - a more unsympathetic portrayal is hard to imagine. Like many local authorities in the outside of the South East, Wigan has been hit... more »

One can do a google search and find a plethora of racist images of Barack Obama and Michelle Obama and yet this is what’s fuelling outrage? Listening to the interview and context, Obama’s use of the n-word made sense. It was about how, while there has been much progress in race-relations, much more needs to be done. It was blunt, it got people talking, though I’m worried a lot of the media coverage misses the point, trying to turn it into a gaffe-of-the-week and not recognizing the depth and seriousness of the problem Obama was talking about. Blacks are literally being gunned dow... more »
"Place To Go When War Starts"
*"Place To Go When War Starts"* by Pivotfarm As one humorist once said “the squeaky wheel gets the grease” and so it has been since time immemorial. Complain and vociferate in the public space and you will get the attention that you need, or at least crave. The grease gets thrown onto the axel in lashings. But, sit silently in the back seat and be driven along and nobody will look over their shoulder and see you slumped in the back of the car. But, that doesn’t mean to say that you aren’t there on that back bench somewhere. Just because you aren’t squeaking, doesn’t mean to say tha... more »

A Hollowed-Out Economy and a Drowning Democracy
*Maine's right-wing Gov. Paul LePage makes the case to cut health care for the poor* Times Record Op-Ed Brunswick, Maine BY BRUCE K. GAGNON Gov. Paul LePage carries water for America’s corporate oligarchy. (Webster’s Dictionary defines oligarchy as “government in which power is in the hands of the few.”) A quick review of LePage’s time in office makes clear that he serves the interests of the rich and the mega-corporations. Feast of the Great Power
LA PAZ, Bolivia — Bolivia's mix of Roman Catholic and indigenous traditions are on display across La Paz as thousands of costumed dancers perform during the annual feast of the Great Power, a raucous street party that celebrates a rendering of Jesus Christ with native features and outstretched arms. Brass bands marched and onlookers cheered over the weekend as the dancers performed elaborate routines in their quest for prizes. The gathering of faithful fun-seekers traces its origins to a religious painting from the 17th century that depicts the Christian savior — El Senor del Gran Po... more »

Strains and Stresses In the Kurdish-Iraq Central Government Budget Deal
The central and Kurdish regional governments tried to overcome their differences after the election of Prime Minister Haider Abadi. That was encompassed within the 2015 budget, which allowed the Kurds to export oil for the Oil Ministry in return for their 17% share of the budget. This agreement has been under constant stress since it was first announced with each side accusing the other of violations, threatening to withdraw their support, and demanding revisions. The core problem was that the deal lacked many specifics allowing the two sides to interpret it in their own ways. The... more »

For ourselves, we’re disinclined to agree. But then, we keep puzzling about the best way to “let the glory out.” The fuller phrase comes from Edwin Markham. In the fuller phrase, we’re seeking the best way to “shake the soul and let the glory out.” We’ll discuss the line as the week proceeds. Republicans Favor States' Rights When It Comes To Racist Symbols... But What About Medical Marijuana?
I haven't talked to a congressional candidate so far this cycle who hasn't been in favor of legalizing medical marijuana. And the last time marijuana policies were voted on, May 30, a healthy bipartisan majority passed an amendment by California Republican Dana Rohrabacher, 242-186. 175 Democrats voted for Rohrabacher's amendment-- and only 10 joined 176 Republicans in opposition. But so many Blue Dogs and New Dems have been defeated in recent years that many of the anti-marijuana Democrats who support backward GOP policies are now lobbyists and bums. Having read a detailed account of the IDF’s enquiry into the incident of the boys killed on the beach in Gaza I kind of knew that Krishnan Guru-Murthy would find a way of using it to damn Israel. Sure enough he ignored the findings apart from the admission that the IDF’s surveillance mechanism made it impossible to tell whether the running figures were adults or children. “Why, if it was impossible to tell, did you continue your attack?” asked Krishnan, of his long-time bête noire Mark Regev, spokesman for the Israeli government. By that token, one might surmise, one would never... more »

The revelation followed recent reports of a broken contract worth $1.3 billion between Russia and France for two Mistral-class helicopter carriers. China may be trying to hide its submarines in the South China Sea
[image: Type 094 (Jin) class SSBN]For months, China’s visible construction of artificial islands and military facilities in the South China Sea has alarmed U.S. officials and many of China’s neighbors. What is happening under the water is also worrisome, say several defense and security analysts. China has a growing fleet of nuclear submarines armed with ballistic missiles. The expansion of its claim on the South China Sea may be intended to create a deep-water sanctuary — known in military parlance as a “bastion” — where its submarine fleet could avoid detection. Extinct Tree Resurrected from Ancient Seeds is now a Dad
29 MARCH, 2015 - 22:43 APRILHOLLOWAY Extinct Tree Resurrected from Ancient Seeds is now a Dad Ten years since the Judean Date Palm was miraculously brought back to life following the chance discovery of seeds in the 2,000-year-old ruins of Masada, the male date palm tree named Methuselah, the only one of his kind, has become a father. For thousands of years, the date palm was a staple crop in the Kingdom of Judea, as it was a source of food, shelter and shade. Thick forests of the palms towering up to 80 feet and spreading for 7 miles covered the Jordan River valley from the Sea o... more »

Pirate Kings of the Mediterranean - British Royals Reassessed - who cares apart from the Tourist Office?
*Water World of Global War*for the last few Free Planet posts, I've been ranting on about the research of Alan Wilson and Baram Blackett that concerns itself (righteously, one supposes) with the re-telling of British History, a re-examination of the Welsh Kings of Britain and the Khumric language and our own true geo-genetic origins within and among the people of the far-eastern Mediterranean. It's all good historical research and worthy of your eyes and ears, sure, but I can't (for the life of me) work out WHY it is important to the world as we know it today. If we go back before... more »
This is What Highly Conscious People Talk About
An odd conversation in time and space. Earth is our school and as we discuss continously on this blog, we can do better. Yet better is available to us now and means only a shift sideways along a common path. Hopefully we do not have to burn out the alternatives first. Without question more individuals world wide are succeeding in connecting to their spirit complex in a correct manner and are even progressing. Yet progress remains difficult and chancy. It is wht the most attuned society on Earth in India has itself only seen modest progress. Even there, just a few pull it ... more »
Socialism Rethought
' *a socialist community was a relatively small, voluntary association of people holding property in common, sharing the burdens of work, and distributing the wealth they created in a relatively egalitarian way.'* is of course the correct starting point. Add in the correct details and it all works splendidly. Those details are critical. They are as follows: 1 The operating size of the community needs to be 150 +- 20 in order to be optimal and socially stable. We know this from sociology and anthropology. In the urban environment they can even be virtual although this lo... more »
Canada’s Treatment of Aboriginals was Shameful But not Genocide
The media driven guilt industry has worn seriously thin. And manipulating the history is not going to improve on it either. The historical reality is always the same. Something had to be done and something was. After that it is always a roll of the dice regarding how happy the result will be. Recall that before 1960, the majority of the developed world's population lacked education beyond some level of secondary schooling. A mere handful did somewhat better. This meant that a whole range of social mores were not tackled critically or compassionately and in fact custom domi... more »

The Charleston "Shooting" Was A Pre-Planned Operation: Active Shooting Drills Conducted In Charleston During Time Of "Shooting"!
I knew that something was very wrong with this Charleston, South Carolina "shooting" from the very beginning.... Everything about this supposed shooting of 9 people in a church in Charleston absolutely made no sense at all and stunk of another set up along the lines of the Sandy Hook operation... Knowing from what I and others have seen before with these "shootings", I smelled a rat and decided to do as much research as possible before calling it for what it truly is...Another active shooting drill that went "live"! Now comes the evidence that this was indeed a set up and part of ... more »

Jesus as Perfect Master
This is a visit into the idea of the perfect master first. It is accepted by many that Jesus was a perfect master and i want to state that this appears completely valid. I also want to share that i have been investigating spiritual reports extensively and gathering a fair understanding. My most important insight is that the spiritual realm is physically real and vastly more information dense than our own tier of matter. This is the reverse of my original expectation. After saying all that what i have found disquieting is the various representations regarding spiritualism pr...more »
Driverless Trucks to Hit Alberta’s Oilsands Region Replacing $200,000/yr Operator
This makes a lot of sense. It is the ideal market in which to master the technology. No highway rules to factor in. As already posted, the whole truckling industry is now preparing to transition and it will be startling quick. All this is about is the first adopters. It is actually worse than all that in terms of employment. All commercial trucking and air flight are now sunset jobs. As well the private automobile will also become driver free. It will all be well underway inside five years and over in twenty globally. . *Driverless Trucks... more »

Fast Track Zero Hour
(*updated below.) Never having met an idea or a lower House vote for the public good that it couldn't crush through sheer inertia, corruption, stealth, or just a flick of its contemptuous middle finger at the body politic, the United States Senate will once again try to give President Obama authority to fast-track democracy into permanent oblivion. Zero Hour begins on Tuesday, June 23, at approximately 11 a.m. President Obama probably won't need to make a personal desperate appearance this time. Neither will the mass media. The pundits are too busy analyzing and marveling at how ..
