12 Billion People By 2100 - And Why It's No Big Deal

Land Destroyer at Land Destroyer - 9 minutes ago
*September 23, 2014* (Tony Cartalucci - NEO) - Wired magazine recently published an article titled, "Boom! Earth's Population Could Hit 12 Billion by 2100," which despite the typical narrative of misanthropic population control that works its way into any Western mainstream article on the topic of growing populations, remained relatively positive. Wired quoted statistician and sociologist Adrian Raftery of the University of Washington who stated: *“A rapidly growing population with bring challenges. But I think these challenges can be met.”* And Raftery is correct. Wired would als... more »

Do not believe the news reports that our economy is picking up. Not only are the statistics being fudged, but "the Federal Reserve and its bullion bank agents (JP Morgan, Scotia, and HSBC) have been using naked short-selling to drive down the price of gold since September 2011." Naked short-selling means selling something on the market that you neither own nor have borrowed. It is illegal on the stock and bond markets, but it is permitted for gold futures. How convenient for our corrupt govenment! Normally selling off gold is a sign of investors' confidence in the markets. In reality the dollar is doomed to crash sooner than later. So don't be fooled; buy gold (or silver) now while it is arificially depressed. You'll need some when the dollar is devalued.

Does Globalisation Breed Nationalism?

Phil at All That Is Solid ... - 9 hours ago
Yuck, globalisation. A notion so commonplace, so banal that to write it these days is like murmuring a vulgarity. It's a truism universally acknowledged that the circuits of capital, the organisation of production, its division of labour, and worldwide commodity chains tend to treat borders as irrelevances. Cheap air travel and affordable internet access has shrunk the planet and thrust economies and cultures closer together. This morning one of the Beltway trade papers ran a piece about how weak GOP backbencher Rodney Davis, is kicking the ass of Steve Israel's pathetic mystery meat candidate, Ann Callis, in Illinois' most swing district, IL-13. When informed that Davis had voted to shut down the government, 42% of registered voters said they would vote for him and 47% said they would vote for his Democratic opponent. Judging by the RCAF Facebook and Twitter comments, it is slightly controversial. Some pragmatists saw nothing wrong with the yellow-gold bars that were the norm until now

Cooking in Costa Rica and Sushi Wednesdays!

Lori Anne Haskell at Our Paradise--Life in Costa Rica - 1 day ago
I have been cooking a lot in Costa Rica and eating a lot at home. Trying out a lot new recipes. Some good, some not. One of my most recent favorites is falafel burgers. SO good. The recipe makes exactly enough for Kurt and I for dinner. I make them and put them over rice, and add some fresh guac and hot sauce to the top. The first time I added some black beans to the rice as well, so it was kinda a mix of a Costa Rican and Middle Eastern meal. Have made that twice, both times super good. Another meal I made recently I really liked was pasta with cauliflower alfredo sauce. ... more »

So, I posted before about the scooters we got, which we are loving. This is a good thing, since we have been without a car since August 2. While our friend was visiting the States, we borrowed his, but since he got back, we have been solely using the scooters. Basically, when you move to Costa Rica and drive a car here, you have 90 days to pay the taxes on it. This is not simple though. You have to leave the car with a customs agent who has to have someone from the government inspect it and put a *value* on it. This is not based on USA blue book. It's their calculation. Y... more »
