The Anti-Sigma Factor TcdC Modulates Hypervirulence in an Epidemic BI/NAP1/027 Clinical Isolate of Clostridium difficile
Nosocomial infections are increasingly being recognised as a major patient safety issue. The modern hospital environment and associated health care practices have provided a niche for the rapid evolution of microbial pathogens that are well adapted to surviving and proliferating in this setting, after which they can infect susceptible patients. This is clearly the case for bacterial pathogens such as Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus (VRE) species, both of which have acquired resistance to antimicrobial agents as well as enhanced survival and virulence properties that present serious therapeutic dilemmas for treating physicians.

Arguing With Your Crazy Uncle About Climate Change
This from self-styled 'contrary' Brin. Where is that, David ? Did you even read your own slogan ?
"Change is the very fabric of our time." -- David Brin
Elsewhere I show that the War on Science is part of a much wider effort to destroy public trust in every “smartypants caste” — from school teachers, journalists, medical doctors and attorneys to professors, civil servants and skilled labor. (Name a center of intellect that’s exempt!) But nowhere is it more relentless than by savaging the one group in society that’s unarguably among the smartest and best educated.

Talk about a whole hearted regurgitation of Talking Points !
‘Scientism’ isn’t a bad name for a proposition that is inherently untestable because any ‘proofs’ ; of a half baked model excluding most of the bisophere as irrelevant turned to device of ‘prediction’ in a system open to space ; do not occur within the current time frame !
Nor is ‘climate change’ any proof of the fudged mathematical models used to try and get congruence with arbitrarily picked data points on a miniscule timeline.

Did you try the military intelligence resource GlobalResearch.ca for files on diverse ( not contrarian ) ideas about drivers of climate ?
Were you aware that even environmental protection science activists the Suzuki Elders cautioned about ignoring geological trends in the past which indicated natural forces for extreme and rapid change exist ?
You don’t need to go to corporately sponsored CFACT for wild stories…and you shouldn’t complain about active imagination !
And … if you look at the cautions the IPCC ( who will receive fantastic tax revenues from global participation in a scam denuding nations of revenue for adapting to change ….while throttling the world economy by the throat…in a world where population will shortly start to nosedive from little incidentals like 1 billion under imminent threat of starvation and less than 3 years coal left in Appalachia…not to mention water resources that are being polluted at a fantastic rate ) include in their statements….reporting is overblown to say the least. Rapid Population Decline or Bust Part 3
Lord Lawson's Global Warming Policy Foundation is spreading errors

Arsenic, quasicrystals and the myth of the science martyr
Successful scientists are, for the most part, incredibly good critics of other scientists’ work. We can pick apart our colleagues experiments often better than our own – to see the controls they should have done and the methods they should have used, and we are particularly adept at coming up with alternative ways of explaining data that undermine their conclusions. This is an important, and constructive, part of the scientific process. If we turn out to be right, great. And if additional data erase our concerns, that great too. That’s the way it usually works.
But in the times when I have been that skeptic, I could feel the tug of something else. Of course recognizing the weaknesses in other’s work is nothing like making a new discovery – but it can feel like it. There is a pull – a sense that you are somehow tapping into the exalted realm of the scientific outsider who knows they’re right when everyone else is wrong. And the expectation of the vindication that will come when everyone realizes you were right. It can be hard to give up that taste of glory.

The failure of programmes like Sunday Morning Live to deal with these issues responsibly leaves professionals wondering why they should bother to engage with the media on these topics at all. Alice Hoyle, the teacher who was briefly allowed to respond via webcam, has been left shocked by the experience, and discusses it at length in a series of blog posts. "Equating me to a paedophile is actually the most foul, upsetting and disgusting thing that has ever been said to me."

Without a promissory note, a foreclosing plaintiff cannot show a legal injury, i.e., does not have standing to sue. Without standing, the action before the court does not qualify as a "case or controversy" under Article III of the constitution. Courts can only make rulings on "cases or controversies;" advisory opinions are a legal nullity. Consequently, a court that purports to enter a "judgment" where it has no subject matter jurisdiction has in fact entered a legal nullity on its docket; that "judgment" is void as a matter of law.
As such, any such "judgment" entered where the plaintiff had no standing is open to collateral attack in any subsequent proceeding. What is more, subject matter jurisdiction cannot be waived; were that the case, parties could falsely induce courts to make binding rulings--obviously non-sensical.

Dominionists Try to Hide Their Agenda
Right Wing Watch has an interesting post about members of the New Apostolic Reformation telling their followers to stop talking about taking dominion and to hide their agenda when speaking to anyone other than their own people.
Canada’s hate speech laws collide with reality
The country’s highest court heard arguments pitting freedom of expression against laws banning hate speech Wednesday, setting the stage for an eventual ruling on what is more in need of protection: groups targeted with hatred, or a citizen’s right to speak freely.
As someone who feels most at home talking about things that make polite society squirm – religion, racism, poverty, the idea that people can actually be wrong about things – I place a premium on free speech. Penn Jillette likes to talk about the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution (the right of every citizen to own bear’s arms), saying that it’s the one that protects all the others. This, quite frankly, is militaristic nonsense. A gun doesn’t protect your right against unreasonable search and seizure – you pull a gun on a cop and that search all of a sudden becomes pretty fucking reasonable, amirite?Mr. Jillette is pretty close to the mark, though. It is in fact their first Amendment that is the bulwark against infringement against any of the others. When speech, even speech that is critical of the government that is tasked with enforcing the rights of its citizens (and often especially then), is unrestricted any and all ideas can be debated and expressed. Rights can be fought for in the open, and public opinion can be swayed by the force of the arguments in those fights. It’s how all the amendments after the original Bill of Rights came to be.
Canada doesn’t have a free speech right in the same way that the United States does. Yes, our charter explicitly protects the practice of free speech, but it couches that right in the caveat that one’s speech can be restricted if it qualifies as hateful. No definition of hateful is provided – you’re just supposed to know what that means. For the most part, this means that liberals win and bigots lose. Sadly, it’s still the wrong position for a country to hold.
