Oppose Congress's Iran War & Oil Embargo Legislation
Congress has introduced new proposals that would endorse Israeli military strikes against Iran, impose a virtual oil embargo on the country, and bring the U.S. policy on Iran even closer to the disastrous policies carried out against Iraq leading up to the 2003 invasion.H.Res.271, which was reintroduced by Rep. Louie Gohmert and endorsed by 42 House Republicans, green lights military action against Iran by Israel and threatens to exacerbate regional instability, endanger Iran's indigenous human rights and democracy movement, and potentially drag the U.S. into a disastrous new war in the region.
H.R.1905 would impose an oil embargo on Iran that would punish ordinary Iranians, raise the price of gas and threaten the U.S. economic recovery, and fracture the unity of the international community regarding how to approach Iran. The toll of such measures can be massive, as evidenced by the oil embargo on Iraq that was estimated by UNICEF to have contributed to the deaths of half a million Iraqi children and which failed to topple Saddam Hussein.
