Maybe OWS's most important mission isn't to provide "answers" but to insist that we start asking the right questions
To read the infotainment noozemedia, you would think that there is universal agreement on the one and only solution to the problem of high levels of government debt: the very austerity programs we're seeing inflicted on the countries noted by Secretary Reich, with the all-too-predictably deadly results. Since austerity isn't a solution to the problem, as Reich notes, it can hardly be the "only" solution. He sketches a very different one here, and you'll find the same case being made by actual economists like Dean Baker (here's a piece he wrote for the Guardian in February, "The Great British austerity experiment," about the disastrous lesson of the U.K. austerity regime for Americans), Paul Krugman, Joseph Stiglitz, et al.
News orgs that don’t clearly report that Senate Republicans filibustered the overall jobs bill, and are doing the same with individual pieces of it, refusing to allow a straight up majority vote on any of them, even though they have broad majority public support, are simply misleading their readers and viewers.
This comes after news orgs widely blared the news that the Senate GOP had introduced its own jobs plan without soliciting the views of independent experts on whether that plan would actually . . . create jobs. These epic media pathologies, as Kevin Drum has termed them, benefit Republicans, pure and simple.

What Caused the Great Depression is NOW
The United States economy is NOT in a “recovery”. Nothing could be further from the truth as business owners can tell you. We are clearly in a DEPRESSION. The best way to understand why is to read the best REAL History of the United States I have seen.Unemployment statistics are lies intended to make things appear better than they are. They do not count those who have been out of work more than a certain amount of time nor do they count those who have given up looking. Do YOU know anyone who is unemployed and wants to work?

I do. 80% of my neighbors have already been laid off. My next door neighbor and his wife are BOTH laid off. None of these people has found full time work at any wage much less what they used to make. They get by with whatever side work they can find.

( It doesn't sound unlike tales from Toronto during the G 20 )America's Lost Decade
Food pantries picked over. Incomes drying up. Shelters bursting with the homeless. Job seekers spilling out the doors of employment centers. College grads moving back in with their parents. The angry and disillusioned filling the streets.
Pan your camera from one coast to the other, from city to suburb to farm and back again, and you'll witness scenes like these. They are the legacy of the Great Recession, the Lesser Depression, or whatever you choose to call it.
In recent months, a blizzard of new data, the hardest of hard numbers, has laid bare the dilapidated condition of the American economy, and particularly of the once-mighty American middle class.
The deep polarization between the very rich and everyone else has been decades in the making and is a global phenomenon. Reversing it could be the task of a lifetime.
In the meantime, the middle class has flat-lined. Life support is nowhere close to arriving. One lost decade may have ended, but the next one has likely only begun.
