Covid-19 Coronavirus Pandemic: The Best And Worst Death Case Scenarios In The U.S.
*New York Times*: *Could Coronavirus Cause as Many Deaths as Cancer in the U.S.? Putting Estimates in Context* Although it’s impossible to say how many Americans will die because of the new coronavirus, under a reasonable set of assumptions the number of fatalities could be high — potentially in the hundreds of thousands or more. Deaths on that scale are not easy to grasp. To put the estimates in context, we’re comparing the possible toll with other leading causes of death in the United States in 2018, the most recent year with data available. We’ve started with an estimate from a... more »

Review Iraq’s Dysfunctional Democracy
*Ghanim, David, **Iraq’s Dysfunctional Democracy**, Santa Barbara, Denver, Oxford: Praeger, 2011* In *Iraq’s Dysfunctional Democracy* author David Ghanim questions whether the post-Saddam Hussein Iraq was moving towards a real representative government. He didn’t believe in imposing democracy upon other countries using force like the United Sates did in 2003, and saw few signs afterward that the new ruling parties were interested in anything other than staying in power and enriching themselves by stealing from the state. Ghanim has a long list of why he is disillusioned from the us... more »

Closing Polling Places Is Disenfranchising African Americans And Minorities
*Joshua F.J. Inwood, Derek H. Alderman* *Politics, Americas* And it's intentional. Delays and long lines at polling places during recent presidential primary elections – such as voters in Texas experienced – represent the latest version of decades-long policies that have sought to reduce the political power of African Americans in the U.S. Following the Civil War and the extension of the vote to African Americans, state governments worked to block black people, as well as poor whites, from voting. One way they tried to accomplish this goal was through poll taxes – an amount of m... more »
Coronavirus Fear Is More Dangerous Than The Virus (Here's How To Stop It)

War on China?

Sinister forces in American political life are using the crisis to incite war with China and to stir up bad feelings towards the Chinese people. The Chinese people are in fact heroic. *"Nine Meals from Anarchy"* by Jeff Thomas "In 1906, Alfred Henry Lewis stated, “There are only nine meals between mankind and anarchy.” Since then, his observation has been echoed by people as disparate as Robert Heinlein and Leon Trotsky. The key here is that, unlike all other commodities, food is the one essential that cannot be postponed. If there were a shortage of, say, shoes, we could make do for months or even years. A shortage of gasoline would be worse, but we could survive it, through mass transport or even walking, if necessary. But food is different. If there were an i... more »

Chinese foreign policy responsible for deaths in Italy and Iran
China has a policy called "One Belt and One Road" which uses money to buy control in foreign countries. China "invests" in infrastructure projects in countries which borrow the money for the projects from China and use Chinese companies to do the work. It makes poor countries who end up not being able to repay dependent on China. But it also means that countries who buy into this have lots of Chinese in residence. For example the two countries who have been hardest hit by COVID19, Italy and Iran, have lots of Chinese in residence. There are more than 300,000 Chinese living in Ita... more »

This contributed to one of the largest outbreaks of the infection ever in his home state.
Some Economic Responses To The Coronavirus Recession

She also canvases the often limited judicial remedies available for these violation. In this post, I want to take up where her book--and Sonja West's and Nathan Cortez's recent posts--leave off. Socialism in action: we'll seize your home to help the homeless!
If you own rental property in California, or just want to renovate your own home before moving back in, you may be out of luck. A new bill introduced in the state government would allow the confiscation of your property after just 90 days standing empty. The issue of homelessness in California is a problem in need of addressing and worthy of creating ideal solutions to remedy. But should that solution to homelessness be resolved by what some might consider to be legislated theft?
