Are You Glad Hillary Now Says She's Backing More Of The Progressive Agenda Bernie Has Been Formulating For 30 Years?
Last night I mentioned that a progressive Member of Congress who had just endorsed Hillary's very establishment campaign instead of Bernie's-- with which he is much more ideologically aligned-- had written that he believes "that Bernie has pushed her far enough to the left now that she is supporting more progressive policies that help regular people and the poor. (Keystone and the TPP were huge for me.)" OK, although I wonder what will happen if she becomes president and no longer cares what Bernie and progressives have to say. Will she revert back to her decidedly non-progressive... more »

Trump is obviously right on 9/11 Jersey City Muslim celebrations
During the weekend, Donald Trump said something that is considered common sense in my country. However, the hysterical reactions by the U.S. journalists and politicians proves that the discussions about similar fundamental issues have been turned into a big taboo in the "land of the free". Some people would obviously shut Trump's mouth if they could! Donald Trump said that he remembers that thousands of Muslims in Jersey City, New Jersey were celebrating the 9/11/2001 attacks on that day. Is that true? Blow to UK energy plans as new gas plant in doubt

Climate Change Root Cause Of Syrian War Says Prince Charles
Prince Charles points to the world’s failure to tackle climate change as a root cause of the civil war in Syria, terrorism and the consequent refugee crisis throughout Europe. The heir to the British throne said in an interview with Sky News, to be aired on Monday and recorded before the Nov. 13 attacks in Paris, that such symptoms were a “classic case of not dealing with the problem”. During the interview Charles talks about his belief that there are links between climate change and terrorism. Where else have we heard similar nonsense? No One Brought Their Klan Robes To The Trump Rally In Birmingham
The Republican side of the story is that a big-- *very* big-- scary black man in a #BlackLivesMatter t-shirt came to a Trump rally in Birmingham looking for trouble and interrupted Trump's address by shouting "Black Lives Matter." Besides, they didn't lynch him so what's all the fuss? After all, what's a little shoving, punching and kicking between neighbors? Mob violence in Alabama, after all, is as American as sweet potato pie-- or at least in their version of what's American. Homosexuality is Not a Choice
This is an update on the biological condition we understand to be homosexuality. The most important take home is that homosexuality is produced by prenatal maternal stress likely at specific times not yet recognized. This strongly suggests that prenatal testing and intervention is a plausible option that can totally eliminate the condition. This is actually good news. It may not actually be curable once developed but may be alterable before development. After birth and even before development is seriously guided in a gender direction and reversal becomes too difficult. T... more »

A New Theory on Aging

Play Felt Gingerbread House
I kept telling myself to wait just three more days until Thanksgiving was over to pull out the Christmas crafts, but I couldn't help it! Christmas crafts are so much fun to make and I LOVE how many of them can involve my kids. In the past, I have made felt Christmas trees for my kiddos, so they can decorate them over and over and leave my tree alone. This year it hit me. Why not do the same thing with a Gingerbread House? My kids were both thrilled when I told them my idea and sat with me the whole time I was making their house. They have had a blast with it. This house is super e... more »

On Saturday the hacking group posted the headline: The Poles supply ISIS militants with Ukrainian weapons, with screen-grabs of documents proving their claim. Authorities Deliberately Ignored ‘Red Flags’ Before Paris Attacks
There were multiple chances for authorities in Europe to prevent the Paris attacks and stop the men entering the country. Reuters have examined a series of missed red flags and ‘miscommunications’ that resulted in France’s biggest atrocity since World War Two. Is this one of the biggest mistakes in France’s history, or a deliberate act of ignorance? Huffingtonpost.com reports: “We’re in a situation where the services are overrun. They expect something to happen, but don’t know where,” said Nathalie Goulet, who heads up the French Senate’s investigation committee into jihadi network... more »
UN Chief Praises Russia’s Leading Role In Fight Against ISIS
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has praised Russia’s leading role in the fight against ISIS on Sunday. During a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, the UN chief said he was highly appreciative of Russia’s role in fighting terrorism alongside the United States. Tass.ru reports: The UN chief noted the deteriorating security and social situation in Syria as a cause for terrorism. The recent initiatives by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry have given a strong impetus to finding a political solution to the Syrian crisis, the UN ... more »
Kerry: Global-Warming Apocalypse Deniers Must Be Silenced
Secretary of State John Kerry has launched a vicious attack at scientists and members of the public who challenge the hypothesis that global warming is a man-made phenomena. Kerry has called for a tough stance on ‘global warming deniers’, saying, “The science tells us unequivocally, those who continue to make climate change a political fight put us all at risk. And we cannot sit idly by and allow them to do that.” Thenewamerican.com reports: This was not the first time Secretary Kerry has made comments that lightly veil an implicit threat aimed at climate realists. Bernie Sanders Claims Monsanto Are Trying To Silence Him
Bernie Sanders has said that Monsanto threatened to sue CBS if they allowed him to appear on their network, due to his critical stance of the agricultural giant. During a town hall on Saturday night, a voter asked Sanders about Monsanto and about GMO food, to which Sanders responded: Monsanto is a very, very powerful corporation. They are one of the leaders in food technology and basically working hard to transform our food system. Let me tell you a funny story, or not so funny. In my state, a great dairy state, we have a lot of dairy cows. There was an effort to put what was calle... more »

The Cancellation Of Last Week’s Germany-Netherlands Football Match In Hanover Was Due To A French Intel Warning Of An Impeding Bomb Attack
*The Guardian*: *Terrorists 'planned to detonate three bombs inside German stadium'* Security official says tip-off from French led to last-minute cancellation of last week’s Germany-Netherlands football friendly in Hanover. Terrorists planned to detonate three bombs inside the stadium during a friendly international football match in Hanover last week, an attack that was thwarted by cancelling the match at the last minute, according to a security official. Susan Devoy fails to fight for chance to teach new immigrants
I know it’s hard to pick a winner, but do you think Susan Devoy might have been the least prepared and least competent Racist Relations Commissar since the ridiculous role was invented? On any issue on which she chooses to make a stand, she invariably takes the wrong one. See, this is what we’ve been talking about: one of the biggest failures in recent decades has been the failure to fully welcome new people to new western countries into the values that made western cultures great. Yet, in a bizarre parallel with the “safe spaces” on American campuses that students demand to avoid... more »

He toppled banana republics, planned the Bay of Pigs invasion and led the Watergate break-in. Now he would reveal what he'd always kept hidden: who killed JFK. "JFK and the Unspeakable*: * *Why He Died and Why It Matters*" by Oliver Stone "The murder of President Kennedy was a seminal event for me and for millions of Americans. It changed the course of history. It was a crushing blow to our country and to millions of people around the world. It put an abrupt end to a period of a misunderstood idealism, akin to the spirit of 1989 when the Soviet bloc to began to thaw and 2008, when our new American President was fairly elected. Today, profound doubts persist about how President Kennedy was killed and why. My film "JFK" was a metaphor for a... more »
New Jersey Women Who Refused Work Flu Shot To Be Fired
Three office workers from New Jersey face being fired from their jobs after refusing to take a mandatory flu shot at work. Alanda Watson has been ordered to either receive a flu shot, or wear a mask around her co-workers. She and two other co-workers have refused the demands of the Lutheran Social Ministries of New Jersey’s strict health rules, and were suspended 3 weeks ago. “All three of us got a pretty blanket email. We were told to return to work tomorrow in compliance with the policy, with documentation saying we’ve either gotten a shot or we’re wearing a mask,” Watson told New... more »
things i heard at the library: digital divide edition (#20)
In library school we talked a lot about the digital divide, the ever-increasing gap between those who have access to information and communication technology, and those who do not. Public libraries are one of the very few institutions that exist to bridge that gap, however imperfectly. What does the digital divide look like on the ground? In my library, located in one of the lowest-income communities in Ontario (and in Canada), we see the digital divide in action every single day. This week a family worked on a visa application for the United States. They had to come to the library... more »

Quote of the day: Why are there so few Muslim terrorists?
*[image: _quotation_marks1 (1)]I think this actually is a great question. Given what a totally vile doctrine Islam is, and given how many people say that they follow it, why indeed do so few Muslims, percentage wise, actually do the kinds of murderous things demanded of them in Islam’s holy scriptures? The more vile you consider the things that Islam demands of its devotees, and they seem to me to be very vile indeed, the better the question is.* ~ Brian Micklethwait, Samizdata post asking ‘Why are there so few Muslim terrorists?’ Content is copyright PC.BlogSpot.Com © Please con... more »

Mali’s president has described his country as the latest front in a global struggle against extremism, as he declared three days of national mourning for 20 people killed in a hotel siege. “Terrorism will not win,” said Ibrahim Boubacar Keita during a visit to the Radisson Blu hotel, where gunmen mowed down guests in the lobby then went after more victims. “Mali w... more »
"Those people who are the so-called jihadists in France don't come from Islam. They come from misery."
It's hard not to bang on, however much you might not want to, when the BBC programmes you are listening to are also banging on relentlessly. This morning's *Broadcasting House *featured a lengthy report from Emma Jane Kirby on how France's young people are reacting to the massacres in Paris. At least that was how it was introduced. After a moving opening interview, however, it swiftly moved on to focus - at considerable length - on the grievances of France's Muslims, young and not-so-young. Jeremy Corbyn and Insecurity
Relax, Labour is not going to lose the Oldham by-election so there's no need to look for a bus to throw Jeremy under. It will be fine. Ish. Yes, the majority bequeathed by Michael Meacher is going to be cut, and part of that's because fewer people turn out for by-elections unless fired up by some motivating factor or another. Yet the coming performance can, should, and will be read as an early verdict on Jeremy's leadership. Remember, Oldham West is a so-called "core area" filled full with "our people" - a mix of white and Asian working class and small business people. If Labour c... more »

The NRA's Uncanny Ability To Get Conservative Politicians To Back Terrorist Groups
Gun manufacturers' lobbyists and the craven Republican politicians they own revel in telling their dopey, brain-washed supporters that Bill Clinton or Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton-- or any Democrat short of Ted Strickland or John Barrow-- is going to come to their house and take away their guns. It isn't true and no one-- short of people with severe learning disabilties-- really believes it is. But it still works for Republicans in rallying their base-- despite the fact that most Americans, *including* Republicans-- want sane gun safety regulations. The 4 paragraphs below come ... more »

Lending Money to a Friend
Your best friend calls you and says "I hate to say it but I am totally broke and can't even buy groceries, can you lend me some money?" You decide you ought to lend the money – but the question becomes getting it back. If you are lending the money without any expectation of repayment – sort of a dignified way of making a gift – then things are legally easy. Just give over the money with a smile, say "pay me back when you can" and forget about it. If you get repaid that's a bonus but it isn't something to be expected. Just remember that giving charity this way will rebound to your ... more »

has the whole world gone crazy? again? terrorism against muslim people as a "response" to paris attacks
Some facts. 1. The likelihood that you will be killed in a terrorist attack is extremely small. Socialism is Jeremy Corbyn in Number 10 plus superfast broadband! Okay, not as pithy as Lenin's definition involving soviet power and electrification, but John McDonnell's speech on Wednesday is a continuation of a fine tradition in left and centre left politics: the close alignment of our policy agenda with technological dynamism. His iPads and Socialism speech was an attempt to wrest the white heat of technology from the grip of George Osborne,... more »
