Ottawa police have laid additional charges against a 75-year-old woman who is accused of approaching men and forcing them to eat cupcakes. Police said that on July 8 and 9, a woman had approached three different men in incidents around the transit station at Place d'Orleans. Police said that the woman would offer a cupcake from a Rubbermaid™ container she carried. If the victim refused, she would put the tasty treat against the man's ... more »

Self Defence

James C Morton at Morton's Musings - 53 minutes ago
The concept of self defence is instinctive; if someone attack a you it is only human to defend yourself. Similarly if someone attacks your child or parent or partner you are going to defend them - and rightly so - with force. But that concept does come with limits. You have to act reasonable and proportionately. So if a drunk shoves you in a bar you can properly shove back but you are not entitled to shoot the drunk. You can respond if a classmate of your child throws a snowball at your child - but your response cannot be to take a baseball bat the the classmate. And self de... more »

*Regulations, mostly Green, are destroying America's future* The Jetsons, a sci-fi fantasy family of the 1960s, lived in impossible luxury in 2062. Not only are we not nearing their living standards, we are going in the opposite direction. This column has wondered why, and a recent Supreme Court case has given us the answer. In one of its few good decisions of the recent term, the Court by a slim 5-4 vote struck down an EPA regulation whose costs were 1,000 times its benefits. It’s good to know imposing costs of 1,000 times the benefits is a no-no, but the myriads of regulations w... more »
