North Carolina’s Farmer Freedom Act criminalizes S.510
Bradley’s bill, H.B. 65, the North Carolina Farmer’s Freedom Protection Act, nullifies S. 510 by making it a Class 1A misdemeanor to enforce S. 510 within the borders of North Carolina.
H.B. 65 is now stuck in the Agriculture Committee.

 Killing Mother

Spotted Owls, Extinct Oceans and the Poverty of Western Culture

Imagine you live in a perpetual war zone. All around, houses are being destroyed, landscapes flattened and people, trees, plants and animals are raked up and ruined. As soon as the neighborhood recovers, maybe over a period of years or decades, another onslaught ensues. The few who manage to endure and flee find adjacent locations under similar assault. Survival under such conditions is impossible. This is the scourge Western, Christian, capitalist culture inflicts upon the natural world.

Sex and Nature

Sigmund Freud, the father of modern psychoanalysis, famously postulated that all of human behavior can be summarized as an expression of subconscious sexual urges. In more recent history, Freud’s analysis been assessed as oversimplified and reductionist. In truth, he understated and restricted the role plays in human nature. The procreative urge weaves its way through all of humanity’s cultural institutions, but sex is not simply the expression of base self-gratification as Freud postulated. The creative life force of nature is sex

Oedipus, Gilgamesh, Hubris and the Contemporary Failures of Western Civilization

For most of the hundreds of thousands of years that chart human history, people lived sustainably and peacefully on the Earth. Some still do. The myriad tribes of First People lived on the North American continent for tens of thousands of years without diminishing the resource base.

Beginning approximately six-thousand years ago, a cultural shift swept across the Eurasian continent. Warriors on horseback, armed with military weapons of iron drove into Europe in waves from the Volga Steppe and Caucasus Mountains of modern day Russia. Over time, archaeological evidence records a violent cultural shift. Fortifications appear around settlements where none previously existed. Burial sites, once simple, respectful tributes to the deceased, are replaced with shrines to powerful men. Mass graves of murdered men, women and children convey a period of brutal warfare. Most telling is the replacement of once ubiquitous ceramic figurines depicting a voluptuous female form, tributes to the Great Mother, with ceramic images of male gods of war and domination (3). The peaceful, egalitarian people of Europe and their goddess Mother Earth had no defense against the armed horsemen from the East and their male gods of domination, and this is where the history of Western Civilization’s sustainable relationship with nature ends. Dating from approximately 3,000 B.C.E., a steady and constant deterioration of Earth’s natural infrastructures can be traced into the modern era.

Climate Realists

The story of environmentalism is generally portrayed as one of citizens triumphing over evil corporate polluters, of public awareness, science, and affluence working together to solve pressing problems...
CLEVELAND - Think the thoughts of man-induced climate change are new? Think again! Even back in the 1800s, there were scholars that were convinced that civilizations make climate milder as they progress. Read the words of Italian poet and essayist extraordinaire Giacomo Leopardi ...
Grant Tamino Foster studied this question in a very interesting article on his blog,8000 Years Of Amo and the obvious conclusion of his graphs is that the 66-year cycle seems to be much more than a coincidence of chaotic 20th century graphs.

In particular, the data from the Agassiz ice cap between the years 6000 and 4000 B.C. were Fourier-transformed and this is the power one may obtain:

There is a pretty sharp peak near the frequency "0.0152 cycle per year" which corresponds to the periodicity "66 years" or so. Tamino says that there is only a 7% probability that such a strong peak appears in a similar graph by chance - but he claims to be unimpressed.

Well, especially if I combine it with the apparent cycle in the 20th century, I am somewhat impressed. You know, in the IPCC terminology, it is "very likely" (more than 90%, in this case 93%) that judging by the past data, the cycle will manifest itself in the future. We're not really far from the 95% threshold of the "extremely likely" and 93% is a higher number than what one obtains for many key propositions of the IPCC. It would be a good idea to check for such peaks in the broadest possible collection of ice core and similar data one can find. Of course, if the effect is real, the confidence level could be (and, actually, should be) substantially increased.

In recent years, many politicians encouraged and supported electricity generation from “alternative” or “renewable” energy sources, such as wind and solar, and from natural gas. At the...

The price of misjudging the global response to climate change theories could be catastrophe: economic for developed nations and life-threatening for the world’s poorest people. One prevailing scientific view of climate change dominates world policy-making, leading to radical law-making of seismic significance. But is this view proven beyond reasonable doubt or is it just one theory among many, driven by vested interests? And if wrong, at what cost is it being followed ... and who will pay?
....Philip Foster, conference organiser, comments: “The debate over the reality of human-induced climate change is steeped in emotion, disinformation and hysteria. Wrong responses could have catastrophic consequences for the poorest people across the planet, as well as our own economic stability, yet prevailing policies are founded purely on hypotheses which have not been proven: theories based on computer modelling and vested interests but yet to be supported by observation in the field.
According to this article from Medpage Today:

"The "evidence has only grown stronger" that climate change is responsible for an increasing number of health ills, including asthma, diarrheal disease, and even deaths from extreme weather such as heat waves, said Georges Benjamin, MD, executive director of the APHA.

The Great Global Warming Blunder: How Mother Nature Fooled the World’s Top Climate Scientists

Today (April 20) is the official release date of my new book entitled: “The Great Global Warming Blunder: How Mother Nature Fooled the World’s Top Climate Scientists“, published by Encounter Books.
About one-half of Blunder is a non-technical description of our new peer reviewed and soon-to-be-published research which supports the opinion that a majority of Americans already hold: that warming in recent decades is mostly due to a natural cycle in the climate system — not to an increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide from fossil fuel burning.

Believe it or not, this potential natural explanation for recent warming has never been seriously researched by climate scientists.

The Illusion of a Sensitive Climate System: A Stovetop Demonstration

Direct Evidence that Most U.S. Warming Since 1973 Could Be Spurious

We are forced to use data from sites with at least some level of UHI contamination. So the question becomes, how does one adjust for such effects?

Complexity in data analysis should only be added when it is required to elucidate something that is not obvious from a simpler analysis. And it turns out that a simple analysis of publicly available raw (not adjusted) temperature data from NOAA/NESDIS NOAA/NCDC, combined with high-resolution population density data for those temperature monitoring sites, shows clear evidence of UHI warming contaminating the GHCN data for the United States.

My Global Warming Skepticism, for Dummies

Are Global Temperatures Rising Now? There is no way to know

Why Do Some Scientists Say It’s Cooling, while Others Say that Warming is Even Accelerating? Since there is so much year-to-year (and even decade-to-decade) variability in global average temperatures, whether it has warmed or cooled depends upon how far back you look in time.

Haven’t Global Temperatures Risen Before? Yes

Didn’t the “Hockey Stick” Show Recent Warming to be Unprecedented? The various versions of the hockey stick were based upon questionable statistical methods.

Isn’t the Melting of Arctic Sea Ice Evidence of Warming? Warming, yes…manmade warming, no.

Is Increasing CO2 Even Capable of Causing Warming? There are some very intelligent people out there who claim that adding more carbon dioxide to the atmosphere can’t cause warming anyway.

Is Atmospheric CO2 Increasing? Yes

Are Humans Responsible for the CO2 Rise?
I currently believe that most of the long-term increase is probably due to our use of fossil fuels.
From what I can tell, the supposed “proof” of humans being the source of increasing CO2 would also be consistent with a natural, biological source.

But Aren’t Natural CO2 Emissions About 20 Times the Human Emissions? Yes, but nature is believed to absorb CO2 at about the same rate it is produced.

Is Rising CO2 the Cause of Recent Warming? While this is theoretically possible, I think it is more likely that the warming is mostly natural. At the very least, we have no way of determining what proportion is natural versus human-caused.

Why Do Most Scientists Believe CO2 is Responsible for the Warming? Because (as they have told me) they can’t think of anything else that might have caused it. Significantly, it’s not that there is evidence nature can’t be the cause, but a lack of sufficiently accurate measurements to determine if nature is the cause.

How Important Is “Scientific Consensus” in Climate Research? In the case of global warming, it is nearly worthless. The climate system is so complex that the vast majority of climate scientists — usually experts in variety of specialized fields — assume there are more knowledgeable scientists, and they are just supporting the opinions of their colleagues. And among that small group of most knowledgeable experts, there is a considerable element of groupthink, herd mentality, peer pressure, political pressure, support of certain energy policies, and desire to Save the Earth — whether it needs to be saved or not.

The total amount of CO2 humans have added to the atmosphere in the last 100 years has upset the radiative energy budget of the Earth by only 1%. How the climate system responds to that small “poke” is very uncertain. The IPCC says there will be strong warming, with cloud changes making the warming worse. I claim there will be weak warming, with cloud changes acting to reduce the influence of that 1% change. The difference between these two outcomes is whether cloud feedbacks are positive (the IPCC view), or negative (the view I and a minority of others have).
So far, neither side has been able to prove their case. That uncertainty even exists on this core issue is not appreciated by many scientists!

New Study: 'Ice Sheet Models Are Wrong'
Knowing how the massive ice sheets atop Antarctica and Greenland work is key to predicting how global warming could raise sea levels and flood coastal cities. But a new study upends what scientists thought they knew. It turns out it’s not just ancient snow that makes up the ice sheets, but water deep under the sheets also thaws and refreezes over time.

To put it in non-scientific terms, lead scientist Robin Bell told msnbc.com, the study redefines "how squishy" the base of ice sheets can be. "This matters to how fast ice will flow and how fast ice sheets will change."

"It also means that ice sheet models are not correct," she said, comparing it to "trying to figure out how a car will drive but forgetting to add the tires. The performance will be very different if you are driving on the rims."

The Dessler Cloud Feedback Paper in Science: A Step Backward for Climate Research

( Roy Spencer )

It’s basically the same evidence we published in the Journal of Geophysical Research.

Yet we came to a very different conclusion, which was that the only clear evidence of feedback we found in the data was of strongly negative cloud feedback.
But how can this be? How can two climate researchers, using the same dataset, come to opposite conclusions?
The answer lies in an issue that challenges researchers in most scientific disciplines – separating cause from effect.

Dump the IPCC Process, It Cannot Be Fixed

There is too much conflict of interest built into the report-writing process

Meanwhile, Sea Surface Temperatures Continue to Fall

Five Reasons Why Water Vapor Feedback Might Not Be Positive

The average amount of water vapor in the atmosphere represents a balance between two competing processes: (1) surface evaporation (the source), and (2) precipitation (the sink). While we know that evaporation increases with temperature, we don’t know very much about how the efficiency of precipitation systems changes with temperature.

Firms 'not prepared' for new CO2 laws by Peter Ranscombe
ACCOUNTANTS and lawyers are failing to prepare their clients for new laws forcing them to detail their carbon dioxide emissions
The Scottish Government introduced new rules in October under its "zero waste" strategy requiring all businesses to prove that they are recycling as much waste as they can.

The UK Climate Change Act was passed in 2008 and requires the UK Government to introduce a carbon reporting scheme for all business by next year or to explain why no scheme is in place.

Whitehall is also consulting on changes to the carbon reduction commitment to try to make it more manageable for businesses.

William Dick, founder of software firm Go Green, said the "sheer complexity" of work required smacked of the Domesday Book.
"Our research has found that the vast majority of small companies are unaware of the new laws and what will be required," he said. He warned that thousands of businesses will face a huge financial and bureaucratic shock when reporting becomes legally obligatory.

He added: "So far only the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) has issued advice to its members. We need other accountants and lawyers to be doing the same."
Go Green surveyed 200 accountants over two years and found not one had plans in place to prepare clients for the new carbon reporting laws.

James Delingpole: There is nothing 'smart' about rationing electricity

Tonight on Channel 4 Niall Ferguson will be explaining why Western Civilisation is on its last legs.
let us consider the words of Steve Holliday, chief executive of the National Grid, interviewed last week on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.

“The grid is going to be a very different system in 2020, 2030. We keep thinking that we want it to be there and provide power when we need it. It is going to be much smarter than that. We are going to change our own behaviour and consume it when it is available and available cheaply.”
I have one simple question here: what on earth is this imbecile still doing in his job?
