Status Quo Joe Biden-- The Perfect Candidate, At Least From Trump's Perspective
A new poll from NBC News released late last week, had some bad news for Trump. In July 32% of registered voters strongly approved of the way Trump was handling his job and the new poll shows that has sunk to 29%. Meanwhile, in the July sample, 41% strongly disapproved of how Trump was handling his job and that has increased to 44%. Much of Trump's support is coming from the former slave states that made up the Confederacy, although even those states disapproval has gone from 45% to 47%. Fucked up states, right? Well, that's also where much of Joe Biden's support comes from-- the c... more »
Australian legislator uncovers that country’s Bureau of Meteorology fiddling with temperature records to hype warming

Prohibition 100 Years Later: Why The US Is An Outlier On Vaping And What We Can Learn From Alcohol

Truth is hard in a special-snowflake world
Film screenwriter, director and producer Christopher McQuarrie sent a string of tweets a few days ago that encapsulate how he sees the industry, and how to achieve success in it. He's blunt (almost brutally so) about how nobody's going to do the work if you don't, and how you can't expect the Success Fairy to alight on your shoulders and sprinkle you with magic dust, or something like that. Here's an excerpt. 1. I‘m receiving a lot of questions from writers asking where to submit scripts or how to sell them. Others ask how to sign an agent, attach directors or producers, etc. Y... more »

Practical Equality and Rotten Compromises
Robert Tsai’s *Practical Equality: Forging Justice in a Divided Nation* offers practical advice for progressives living in temporary hard times. Progressives when they cannot achieve a full loaf should eschew compromises that lock-in inequalitarian commitments and find strategies that move the law forward while leaving open the possibility of further progress. *Brown v. Mississippi *(1936) is an excellent illustration of that strategy. The Supreme Court in that case took a stick away from segregationists by ruling out certain brutal modes of seeking confessions, almost exclusivel... more »

Short, frantic and bloody has been the history of aerial warfare. While human beings have killed each other on land and sea for millennia, air combat is but little more than a century old. Western progressives and the imperialist Inquisition
Most people who think of themselves as progressive in the imperialist countries of North America and Western Europe, continue to believe the right wing opposition version of events in Nicaragua in 2018. A great many also accept some version of the right wing opposition account of the crisis in Venezuela. One obvious reason they do so is because they foolishly trust demonstrably false reports from undeservedly prestigious Western NGOs and incessant phony coverage in liberal and progressive news media.
