Democrat double standard; finger waving edition

Ceasefire ends, talks on Syria between Erdogan and Putin begin By Sarah Abed
Monday marks the thirteenth day since Turkey began its third cross border military operation in Syria ironically named “Operation Peace Spring”. In the past two weeks civilian and militant lives on both sides have been lost, a large exodus has taken place, the House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved a resolution that opposes US troop withdrawal, a five-day ceasefire was brokered between Turkey and the United States, and Kurdish militias have withdrawn from the “safe-zone”.

At most 6.4% of the Kurds in the Middle East are going to be impacted by Trump not getting us into a war with Turkey
While the #FakeNews media acts as though Trump not getting the US into a war with Turkey is going to lead to genocide against the Kurds the reality is far different. There are about 31 million Kurds in the Middle east. 18 million are in Turkey already and the region that the Turks are going to occupy as a "buffer" zone contains fewer than 2 million Kurds. The Turkish "buffer" zone contains significantly less than half of the area that the Kurds occupy in Syria and the Kurdish regions in Iraq and Iran aren't being touched. The question then is is it worth getting the US into a maj... more »
Homeschoolers are Educated, Not Indoctrinated
[image: undefined] Schoolchildren across the country recently skipped school or walked out of class to rally for new restrictions on our economic and personal liberties in the name of fighting “climate change.” Instead of punishing students for playing hooky to promote a political cause, many teachers and administrators allowed, or even encouraged, students to skip school to attend these events. Public schools have also given students the day off to attend pro-gun control rallies. The trend toward allowing students to miss school for political protests is an example of how indoctri... more »

A secret impeachment hearing; Does that sound American?
Democrats refuse to hold a vote to start an impeachment investigation. Probably because they know it wouldn't pass. Purple state Democrats know it would be suicide to vote for impeachment while they ignore the issues voters care about so Pelosi isn't making them go on record as supporting impeachment. The idea that a House speaker can just start an impeachment investigation because she feels that Hillary shouldn't have lost in 2016 is pretty scary. But that's small potatoes compared to the fact that a tiny group of radical hyper-partisan Democrats, led by the dishonest Schiff, are ... more »

Bloody boring
Talking about impartial BBC journalists, here's Mr Impartiality himself - the BBC's World Affairs Editor John Simpson being all impartial (as ever) about Brexit: Our problem with Brexit isn’t that a group of sullen Remainers are blocking the will of the people; it’s that we are divided almost exactly 50-50 over it. Organisations tend to require a 2/3rds majority to change their rules. Surely our nation should have done the same? No, can't see anything biased about that. That said, I really do need to go to Specsavers, urgently.

STARTING TOMORROW: The Age of the Novel!
*MONDAY, OCTOBER 21, 2019The start of a two-week report:* Tomorrow morning, we'll be starting an award-winning, two-week series, The Age of the Novel. The report will describe the headlong retreat of our own liberal tribe to the comforting realm of the novelized narrative. At various times, this novelized thinking has also dominated the mainstream journalism of the past twenty-plus years. (Among mainstream journalists, E. R. Shipp best described this novelized journalistic culture in this brief column in the Washington Post in March 2000. The column appeared during Shipp's tenure ... more »

Green Nazis effectively fired Dr Crockford (polar bears)
This is just a short linker-not-thinker story. We may be approaching the "Lidice 1942" moment of this conflict. Nazi Germany was growing in self-confidence and area up to mid 1942 or so – and suddenly the trend got reversed. It's impossible to completely attribute the peak to an event but I choose the Lidice massacre in June 1942 – the first act of genocide that the Nazis bragged about (village eradicated and flattened because of untrue rumors about its responsibility for the assassination of Heydrich) – to be the event that has reversed the sign of the trend. Soon afterwards, the U... more »

Making A Minority Work
It looks like it will be a minority government. And there are a couple of ominous signs in the wind. The first is the divide shaping up on the Ontario-Manitoba border -- Conservatives to the west, Progressives to the east. Perhaps the conservative dominance of the west will end at the B.C. border. The other troubling sign is the resurrection of Quebec nationalism, which -- let's be frank -- never goes away. But, Robin Sears looks to history to prove that minority governments can work: When Robert Stanfield and Pierre Trudeau went to bed on Oct. 30, 1972 neither knew who had a futu... more »

*Without Financial Transparency, Colleges Mislabel Research Spending as Instructional* Public colleges spend public money, but college officials are reluctant to make information about their budgets easy to understand. That aversion to transparency makes it easier to pass non-instructional expenses along to students. Many experts have discussed the problem.
