Trump Frees Himself From Bolton – but Robert O’Brien Will Be Just as Bad
[image: undefined] After months of rumors, John Bolton was finally fired from the White House but the *post mortem* on why it took so long to remove him continues, with the punditry and media trying to understand exactly what happened and why. Perhaps the most complete explanation for what occurred came from President Donald Trump himself shortly after the fact. He said, in some impromptu comments, that his national security advisor had “…made some very big mistakes when he talked about the Libyan model for Kim Jong Un. That was not a good statement to make. RAND Corporation, with its vision to be "the world's most trusted source for policy ideas and analysis." regularly contributes to the total thinky tank output of material that wants to be viewed as "a report" or "research" or "a study" or "a paper," but is more like an op-ed or blog post that has put on a tie and juiced up its vocabulary. The Self-Set Impeachment Trap
*Krystal Ball: This is the hill that Democratic leaders chose to die on?* *by Thomas Neuburger* A note about the coming and much-cheered impeachment of Donald Trump. Of course impeachment was always the right thing to do. But having waited so long to do it, and having chosen Joe Biden's integrity as the hill to die on, the decision to impeach Donald Trump now may be a trap for Democrats — in fact, several of them. If so, they did it to themselves. Let me explain. First, impeachment is without doubt the right thing for Congress to do — or would have been when cause was first given ... more »

What's wrong with free trade agreements
bilaterals.org - 13 hours ago
26-Sep-2019 Free trade agreements (FTAs) and bilateral investment treaties (BITs) are often described as instruments to promote international trade and foreign direct investment. More precisely, they can be seen as tools for transnational corporations to push their interests at the expense of people and the environment. From the late 1950s into the 1970s, a wave of BITs were signed to protect the property of businesses in the former colonial powers from the governments of newly independent states. (...)

Some People Don't like the Triggers Used on Glock, but Are They Doing It Wrong?
*Kyle Mizokami* *Technology, Europe* [image: https://image.sportsmansguide.com/adimgs/l/6/641922m2_ts.jpg] Gun owners must know their guns. *Key point:* It is important to be familiar with, and know how to properly handle, any weapon. Handgun maker Glock advertises its pistols as the embodiment of perfection, and the Austrian-designed handguns have indeed attracted a fanatical following. One complaint about Glocks, however, is that their trigger pull is too light to be safe, causing accidental discharges. Is there any basis to this rumor? He's been a mixed baggage in the long run. But in his new text The One Science Lesson Every American Adult Can Learn From Greta Thunberg which was brought to us by Óscar Santiago Gómez, he has surpassed a certain threshold of stupidity that will prevent me from considering him an intelligent person again – ever. "Social Inequality – Eat The Rich. THIS Is How We Get There"
*"Social Inequality – Eat The Rich. * *THIS Is How We Get There"* By Chris "A popular story told is that inequality is a bad thing and brings social discontent. That’s the wrong way to look at it. Inequality itself isn’t the problem. In fact I’d say it’s necessary for society to progress. Let me explain. When we see our fellow man working hard and reaping the rewards…we think to ourselves. “Damn, what a legend”. Silently, we may envy him, but really, we know that if we’re to be honest he(or she…not being sexist, you millenials) has probably worked harder or smarter than we have, i... more »
Machiavelli and The Renaissance
It is a liberal view that the Renaissance means the rebirth of something old, but several historians describe it as a beginning of something new that we now see as “modernity.” If the latter view of the Renaissance is accepted, then Machiavelli stands out as the world’s first modern man who as a matter of principle advocates innovation in politics and culture and promotes the idea of new institutions which will keep society stable in times of rapid transformations. In Italy, the Renaissance was being led by scholars like Petrarch, Coluccio Salutati, Leonardo Bruni, Marsilio Ficino, ... more »

The ATLAS collaboration, which is one of the four main scientific equipes looking at LHC collisions, produced an improved bound on the rate at which Higgs bosons may decay to electron-positron pairs (which they are expected to do, although very rarely, in the Standard Model, SM) and to electron-muon pairs (which are forbidden in the SM). read more
