History does a fine line in irony. When Francis Fukuyama suggested in his famous 1989 article, followed by *The End of History and the Last Man* in 1992 that history is coming to an end was always going to be a foolish boast, a proper hostage to fortune. And viewed from the perspective of the close of 2018 it sounds faintly absurd, a historical curio, one for the professional historians of ideas and connoisseurs of concepts that never went anywhere. Even Fukuyama himself has intimated this is the case. Yet the end of history was, for a time, very relevant. *Even on the left*. Fukuy... more »

10 Favorite Organic Food Makers That Are Now Owned by Huge Corporations
Is your favorite organic company owned by a huge corporation or is it truly organic and independent? When it comes to this growing movement for clean food, we have to take the good with the bad, something that millions of consumers wrestle with every time they head to the grocery store. As our favorite organic companies have grown, many of them have also been gobbled up by huge corporations, many of which do not have the best interest of the organic consumer in mind. These companies usually say that their goal is to reach more customers, but oftentimes that ends up being a double-edg... more »

"All Government..."
“All government, in its essence, is a conspiracy against the superior man: its one permanent object is to oppress him and cripple him. If it be aristocratic in organization, then it seeks to protect the man who is superior only in law against the man who is superior in fact; if it be democratic, then it seeks to protect the man who is inferior in every way against both. One of its primary functions is to regiment men by force, to make them as much alike as possible and as dependent upon one another as possible, to search out and combat originality among them. All it can see in an o... more »

"The Foxes Are in Charge of The Swamp"
*"The Foxes Are in Charge of The Swamp"* by Bill Bonner HAMILTON, BERMUDA – "Hmmm… The plot thickens. The Trump team came into office with what might have been a historic opportunity to drain the Swamp and take the feds down a peg. Mr. Trump even said he would eliminate the national debt in eight years. Instead, he teamed up with Democrats to crash through the debt ceiling, gave the big spenders at the Pentagon even more money, cut taxes, and made the Swamp even deeper. Predictably, tax revenues declined and the deficit rose. And the national debt went up by more than $1 trillion o... more »

The Catholic Church and Pedophilia: Trafficking Children as Sex Slaves
The Roman Catholic Church is on the verge of an internal civil war. The battleground is between those who would liberalize the traditional definition of immoral sexual behavior for its clergy, and those who want to restore the conservative values of the Catholic faith as it has been known for more than a thousand years. The scandal involving pedophile priests and the cover-up of their crimes against children and young men is bringing the liberal/conservative clash into sharp focus. It is still a crime in the United States for an adult to have sexual encounters with boys and girls. ... more »

A CLARIFICATION
Yesterday I wrote a post in which I argued that Democrats need to tell voters that it's dangerous to vote for any Republican. One of the responses in comments was this: Makes perfect sense if your sole electoral strategy is to poach moderate Republican voters. But that wouldn't be the main reason to do this. The main reason would be to remind occasional Democratic voters why they always need to turn out. It's widely known that older, whiter, more conservative voters turn out to vote at higher rates than people in other voter groups. Maybe it's just because they're more civic-minded... more »

But while the players have changed, the game remains the same, based on deception, astroturfing and bending perceptions by any means necessary, according to new accusations from Greenpeace and the British newspaper The Guardian, at least. Is Monsanto guilty, just like they were found in the recent blockbuste... more »
