Security incidents and casualties continued their steady decline at the very end of 2017. This was due to two factors. First, attacks are always down in Iraq in the winter. Second, the Islamic State is completely rebuilding its cadres, so it is not launching as many operations. There were 261 incidents recorded for December 2017 in Iraq. Economic and anti-government protests have been reported in at least 19 cities in Iran during the past five days. Religious, political and judicial officials have warned, threatened, reasoned with and cajoled protestors to stop civil disorders, destruction of property and rioting.
