The establishment media-driven brouhaha over Trump's national security advisor Lt. General Michael Flynn, who just resigned amid the controversy, has resurrected talk of an obscure U.S. law known as the Logan Act. Passed more than 200 years ago, the federal statute makes it a crime for Americans to seek to influence the policies of foreign governments without official permission from U.S. authorities. I have just watched the press conference of Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, on RT. They have known each other for years – and Netanyahu has known Trump's Jewish son-in-law since he was a (big) kid. They seem to talk to each other in a way that makes sense, that doesn't need to hide anything. For example, the Donald was asked what he would do with the settlements. He answered that he would like them to be suspended or slowed down or something like that. He turned his head to Netanyahu and said this thing to Netanyahu's eyes. It was refreshing. I thi...more »
*-by Helen Klein* An article in last Sunday’s *NY Times* Week in Review raised my hackles and led to the writing of this piece. Since When is Being a Woman a Liberal Cause? was penned by Susan Chira, a senior correspondent and editor on gender issues. As a baby boomer, I am old enough to have seen first-hand the dramatic changes that have taken place for women in this country. Mid-Twentieth Century, women were second-class citizens and did not have equal rights. During my 13 years in public school in New York City (K-12) I was never allowed to wear pants. Police said it was a ball the dog chased, not a bird as reported by a Twitter user who took pictures. When officers arrived, they saw the dog struggling to stay above the water. *My Years With Ayn Rand * *Nathaniel Branden* *My Years With Ayn Rand* is the reminiscences of a spiteful man—a bitter man—a malicious man. This is not a biography of Ayn Rand; it is the pathetic account of Nathaniel Branden’s personal feelings of the years that he spent with her. The book transports the reader into an unhinged world. This is not the world of Ayn Rand’s rational philosophy; it is a world ruled by Immanuel Kant’s doctrine. Welcome to Branden’s *noumenal* world—a world where reality can be ignored, lying is a way of life, morality is whimsicality, hypocrisy is condo...more »

. This report is actually very encouraging. It is likely impossible to get the disease out of the wild itself but is is possible to create a secure water delivery system. That has not happened yet in most countries including semi developed SE Asia. Failure to make it good has been an ongoing political decision, just as slums are caused by political neglect. solutions are readily available and well tested many decades ago in similar situations. Other than that we have here a clear clinical solution for victims that turns them around in hours and a vaccine protocol...more »
This item clarifies the core differences between all religions generally and Islam. Islam is in fact War fascism and cares nothing for spirituality at all and thus adds nothing to humanity except death and destruction. Here though we do find it made crystal clear that Islam is the Anti Christ and Allah is the name for the Great Deceiver in his own words no less and that really says that praying to Allah, you are in fact praying to Satan. I had always suspected as much but it was also not so clear in the writings we are expected to depend on. Most human beings cannot live with ...more »
Holy crap!!1 I never in my wildest dreams though that an agency could be so deliberately skewed to extract money so blatantly and so fraudulently. Up to 1985 we had about three or four time tested vaccines that did as much as they could to block certain historical threats. That really was good enough because most such threats had then disappeared by and large. In the fifties, i personally had measles, whopping cough, chicken pox, scarlet fever and mumps at least. Vaccination for whooping cough in 1960 triggered a round of double pneumonia which almost killed me. I lost si...more »
For those of you who have been following the design and development phase of the *White Wolf Mine* in the Mogollon Rim region of Northern Arizona, it seems that the overall design phase is complete. It's taken longer than I thought that it would but considering the extraordinarily heavy snow fall and related weather so far this year, there's not much we could do up there. Once it dries out, we'll have at it. One thing that I have added is a two-post truck lift in the workshop. Because it requires extra heavy footers, it was easier to incorporate it now rather than later. It also req...more »
All nationalists have the power of not seeing resemblances between similar sets of facts. A British Tory will defend self-determination in Europe and oppose it in India with no feeling of inconsistency. Actions are held to be good or bad, not on their own merits, but according to who does them, and there is almost no kind of outrage—torture, the use of hostages, forced labour, mass deportations, imprisonment without trial, forgery, assassination, the bombing of civilians—which does not change its moral colour when it is committed by ‘our’ side. ~ George Orwell

Philip Ball visited Roger Penrose (85) in Oxford, talked to him, and wrote the profile Roger Penrose and the vision thing in the Prospect Magazine. It's fun reading but I surely have mixed feelings. Penrose is a very creative guy who has done some cool things and I agree with many of his views about the organization of the research and "style" that is being suppressed. On the other hand, his views on many important technical questions – and not just difficult ones – are childishly wrong and the self-congratulatory tone of the article is undoubtedly excessive. Much of the article i...more »

Thomas L. Jennings became the first black American patent holder in 1821. America has long been the land of innovation. More than 13,000 years ago, the Clovis people created what many call the “first American invention” – a stone tool used primarily to hunt large game. This spirit of American creativity has persisted through the millennia, through the first American patent granted in 1641 and on to today. One group of prolific innovators, however, has been largely ignored by history: black inventors born or forced into American slavery. Though U.S. patent law was created with color...more »

President Donald Trump has said little about the world’s longest undefended border – the one between the U.S. and Canada. Trump barely addressed the issue at his first meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Feb. 13 in Washington. Although Trudeau’s vision of openness and diversity may conflict with Trump’s vision of “America First,” the leaders parted ways with an amicable handshake. The two leaders have different views on their borders. While Trudeau announced that Canada is open to the world’s refugees, Trump has focused the world’s attention on the U.S.-Mexico b...more »
