Why Are Republicans So Afraid Of Vote By Mail
There hasn't been any public polling from Nevada available lately. The last one I found was a Fox poll in January that showed Trump down by 8 points (47-39%). Unless Nevada is entirely in its own universe, that chasm is much wider now. In 2016, Hillary beat Trump 539,260 (47.92) to 512,058 (46.50%), kind of close. However, since Trump was inaugurated, had already decreased by 21 points in February, 54% disapproving and 43% approving. Since then, 51,199 Nevadans have contracted COVID (994 more yesterday) and 847 have died (12 more yesterday). There are 16,622 cases per million Nevad... more »

Mainstream Media Polls: Yet More Gaslighting?
* If you read the mainstream media, you would find it hard to believe that Trump has any chance of winning re-election in November. But then again, they had me utterly persuaded the same was true in 2016. I honestly don’t know what will happen this fall, but I’m not convinced anyone in the media knows either. * Over the past few years, once-reliable news sources have shown a stunning inability to deviate from a predetermined narrative even in light of contrary evidence (see: Manhattan Contrarian gaslighting roundup here). Who’s to say that isn’t happening in this situation? * And it... more »
How Crowd Simulation Models Can Encourage Social Distancing
*Roland Gerachts* *Coronavirus, Europe* [image: Reuters] By simulating crowds at this distance, we hope to contribute to helping open up the economy in these bizarre times. As Europe faces a resurgence of coronavirus, having loosened strict lockdowns, one of the most important policy questions is how people can safely social distance in crowded places. Our ability to accommodate maximum safety and capacity has been greatly reduced during the pandemic, raising concerns about the future layout of public spaces. Why Congress Shouldn't Cut the Federal Jobless Benefit from Coronavirus Unemployment
*David Salkever* *Economics, * The $600 federal jobless benefit expired on July 31. Americans who lost their jobs because of the pandemic had been getting a US$600 bump on top of state benefits in their weekly unemployment checks since March. That ended on July 31, and lawmakers are debating whether to extend the program and if so by how much. Senate Republicans are arguing it’s too generous to the 18 million who are unemployed and serves as a disincentive to returning to work. Their initial proposal in the ongoing negotiations would slash the benefit to $200 a week. As an empi... more »

Pandemics
It’s a covid pandemic when this happens. Not when people get infected with a serious cold and don’t die.
Everybody’s got it in for somebody. Trump says Twitter’s got it in for Trump. Facebook’s got it in for ethics. Consumers have it in for the economy. And I’m keeping my back against the wall.
It's getting brutal out there This is one pissed-off nation. And as in all things, it’s the people at the top who set the mood. So yes, Trump again. The Huffington Post recently made note, among other Trumpian horrors, of the President's complaint that Twitter’s trending topics are “ridiculous, illegal, and, of course, very unfair." He made note of the unfairness on Twitter, which of course, drove his trend numbers up even higher. *Donald J. Natural Cures for COVID being Censored as BILLIONS of Dollars are Spent on Vaccines and Drugs
In the media coverage surrounding COVID-19, why are we hearing nothing about what each individual can do FOR THEMSELVES nutritionally in an effort to build their immune competency to resist and overcome infection? Why is the narrative all about how the pharmaceutical industry is going to “SAVE” us? Gallup Survey Finds Democrats More Gullible than Republicans
Eric Zuesse A Gallup survey published on August 4th by the Knight Foundation has found that the ‘news’-media that in 2002 and 2003 stenographically transmitted to the American people the Government’s lies about WMD in Iraq, and that more recently transmitted stenographically the U.S. Government’s lies in 2016-2020 that Russia had hacked the Democratic National […]

*"'Singularity': Poet Marie Howe’s Beautiful Tribute to * *Stephen Hawking and Our Belonging to the Universe"* “Do you sometimes want to wake up to the singularity we once were?” by Maria Popova "When Stephen Hawking (January 8, 1942–March 14, 2018) was a young man, having already outlived the prognosis he had been given with ALS, he built on earlier theories about what happens to a dying star as it collapses to form a singularity - that tiny point of zero radius, infinite density, and infinite curvature of spacetime at the heart of a black hole. But then Hawking did something radica... more »

The Moody Blues, “Your Wildest Dreams”
"A Look to the Heavens"
"A bright spiral galaxy of the northern sky, Messier 63 is about 25 million light-years distant in the loyal constellation Canes Venatici. Also cataloged as NGC 5055, the majestic island universe is nearly 100,000 light-years across, about the size of our own Milky Way. Known by the popular moniker, The Sunflower Galaxy, M63 sports a bright yellowish core and sweeping blue spiral arms, streaked with cosmic dust lanes and dotted with pink star forming regions. * Click image for larger size.* This deep exposure also reveals an enormous but dim arc extending far into the halo above the... more »
Chet Raymo, "Silk Dawn"
*"Silk Dawn"* by Chet Raymo "A magical morning. Warm and still. The hillside is cloaked in a fine, soft mist that will burn away by ten. I walk down the drive to open the gate. The field is carpeted with silk. Silk made visible by dew. (Click to enlarge.) The spiders were there all along, of course. Their webs too. Everyday as I walked through the grass, they were there, unseen. Unknowingly, I crushed them with my footfalls. A field full of snares, each silken net flung across the grass, each net with its tunnel lair where the predator waits, patiently, for dinner. And now they are ... more »
"Survivors Of Domestic Abuse..."
"What happens to people living in a society where everyone in power is lying, stealing, cheating and killing, and in our hearts we all know this, but the consequences of facing all these lies are so monstrous, we keep on hoping that maybe the corporate government administration and media are on the level with us this time. Americans remind me of survivors of domestic abuse. This is always the hope that this is the very, very, very last time one's ribs get re-broken again." - Inga Muscio It's not...
"Get Your Stuff Together..."
"We all got problems. But there's a great book out called "Too Soon Old, Too Late Smart." Did you see that? That book says the statute of limitations has expired on all childhood traumas. Get your stuff together and get on with your life, man. Stop whinin' about what's wrong, because everybody's had a rough time, in one way or another." - Quincy Jones

*"'V For Vendetta' - Was V's 2005* * 'Sermon' Warning Us Of COVID-19(84) Tyranny?"* by John Manley "The movie "V for Vendetta" is set in an alternative reality where a neo-fascist totalitarian regime has subjugated the United Kingdom under the guise of protecting the people from war, terror and disease. Yes, disease. Indeed, the following clip from this 15-year-old dystopian film looks awfully like the world we now live in today, does it not? At the film’s catalyst, a freedom fighter (codenamed “V”) hijacks the feed for a major TV network in London and broadcasts a “sermon” to the... more »
