Stray puppy wags her tail at every passerby trying to get someone to notice her
A stray puppy’s persistence paid off when she refused to be left behind after she caught the eye of a group of rescuers who usually save elephants. The small puppy was trying to survive in the coldest city in Sri Lanka, living at the market at the time. She would wag her tail every time someone passed her, trying to get someone to notice her. That’s when Lek Chailert and some fellow rescuers from Elephant Nature Park noticed her. Elephant Nature Park in Thailand is home to elephants rescued from all kinds of hardships and situations. *"Stock Market Cheerleading: * *Why Do We Celebrate the Super-Rich Getting Richer?"* by Charles Hugh Smith "It's not too difficult to predict a political rebellion against the machinery of soaring wealth and income inequality. The one constant across the media-political spectrum is an unblinking focus on the stock market as a barometer of the national economy: every major media outlet from the New York Times to Fox News prominently displays stock market action, and TV news anchors' expressions reflect the media's emotional promotion of the market as the end all to be all: if stocks ... more »
"The State..."
“The state - or, to make matters more concrete, the government - consists of a gang of men exactly like you and me. They have, taking one with another, no special talent for the business of government; they have only a talent for getting and holding office. Their principal device to that end is to search out groups who pant and pine for something they can’t get, and to promise to give it to them. Nine times out of ten that promise is worth nothing. The tenth time it is made good by looting ‘A’ to satisfy ‘B’. In other words, government is a broker in pillage, and every election is a... more »

A New Deal for Sustainable Development

New School Strike And Continued Protest Actions In Southern Iraq
Students on strike in Maysan province (Al Ghad Press) Iraq’s Teachers’ Union called for a new general strike after the first one expired a few days ago. That shut down most of the country’s schools in the south. Speaking of that region, protesters tried to re-start the sit-in camp in Basra, there were more clashes in Dhi Qar, and new demonstrations in Karbala and Maysan. Iraq’s Teacher’s Union started a new strike. That led most schools and universities in southern Iraq and Baghdadto shut down. On October 27 students in Baghdad walked out of their schools and joined the protests. ... more »

"The Deadliness of Certainty"
*"The Deadliness of Certainty"* by Kathleen Parker "Freud recognized that human beings have a sex drive and even a death drive. Is it possible that we also have an aphorism drive? We do seem attracted to pat answers and pithy summation- especially from our politicians. It isn't enough to be wise or effective; one must be quotable. In fact, aphorism is the oldest written art form, according to aphorism expert and author James Geary ("The World in a Phrase: A Brief History of the Aphorism"). Before famed aphorists Mark Twain, Dorothy Parker and Woody Allen put the party in repartee, ... more »

'Sneaky coup': Exiled Bolivian leader condemns senator for declaring herself president
Just In - 13 hours ago
Bolivian opposition senator Jeanine Anez proclaims herself Bolivia's interim president, in an effort to fill the power vacuum left by the abrupt resignation of Evo Morales, who immediately condemned the move as a "sneaky coup."
"And Sometimes..."
"When we're headed toward an outcome that's too horrible to face, that's when we go looking for a second opinion. And sometimes, the answer we get just confirms our worst fears. But sometimes, it can shed new light on the problem, make you see it in a whole new way. After all the opinions have been heard and every point of view has been considered, you finally find what you're after- the truth. But the truth isn't where it ends, that's just where you begin again with a whole new set of questions." - Dr. Meredith Grey, "Grey's Anatomy" "The closer you look, the more complicated it get... more »
Delingpole: Cambridge Prof – UK’s Green Energy Targets Require ‘Herds of Unicorns’
By Paul Homewood From Breitbart: The green energy targets being pursued by Britain’s main political parties are so impossibly deluded, fantastical and overambitious that they could only be achievable with the intervention of herds of magical unicorns. The Ukrainian Influence Peddling Rings – A Microcosm of How Imperial Washington Rolls
[image: undefined] *Mykola Zlochevsky, former employer of Hunter Biden and current partner of the Atlantic Council* Last night we heard some knucklehead on the War Channel (CNN) braying about Ukraine as a vitally important "ally and strategic partner". The implication, of course, was that the Donald’s attempted squeeze play on its new President was dangerously undermining national security. What unadulterated tommyrot! The safety and security of the American homeland has absolutely nothing to do with it. That’s because Ukraine is a no count, strategically irrelevant patch of earth ... more »
The Twilight of Liberty: the State Destroys Alternative Media
[image: undefined] It should be obvious by now what the plan is for Julian Assange—psychological torture resulting in either a total breakdown or an untimely death, the latter supported by the psychopaths who claim they are our leaders. This psychological torture was noted, with standard corporate media disinterest, by Nils Melzer, an internationally recognized expert on torture treatment. “Unless the UK urgently changes course and alleviates his inhumane situation, Mr. Assange’s continued exposure to arbitrariness and abuse may soon end up costing his life,” Melzer, UN special rap... more »

"Bolivia's lithium belongs to the Bolivian people," tweeted Washington Monthly contributor David Atkins. "Not to multinational corporate cabals." *Charlie Gao* *Security, * A reliable and legendary weapon. *Key Question:* Can this design deliver? One of the greatest revolutions in military small arms occurred during WWII. The German MG34 and MG42 almost totally revolutionized light machine guns. Prior to the war, most nations fielded light, magazine-fed machine guns as the light machine guns in a weapons platoon or section. After the war, almost everyone wanted a light belt fed for that role. The Soviets developed the RPD, the Americans slowly developed the M60, but most of the world adopted the FN MAG. The world of compact defensive handguns is a crowded one, but one pistol that stands out ahead of the pack is the Heckler and Koch P2000 pistol. Religious Diversity and Challenges in the U.S. Military
*Ronit Y. Stahl* *History, Americas* [image: Reuters] The government did not spontaneously decide to make the chaplaincy more religiously diverse. Rather, the draft conscripted millions of young men from varied religious backgrounds to fight for the United States in World War I. In 1919, Lee Levinger buried four soldiers in France. The responsibility to preside over a funeral was not unusual for military chaplains. But during World War I, most Americans would have been surprised to learn that a rabbi led a service for four Christian soldiers. In 1917, when the United States ente... more »
Only Child Mythology Debunked
*Ana Aznar* *Health, Americas* [image: Reuters] Some studies have found that only children tend to be more intelligent and have higher academic achievement than people with siblings. Only children get a bad rap. They are often perceived as selfish, spoiled, anxious, socially inept and lonely. And my profession, psychology, may be partly to blame for these negative stereotypes. Indeed, Granville Stanley Hall, one of the most influential psychologists of the last century and the first president of the American Psychological Association, said that “being an only child is a disease i... more »

Meanwhile, state security forces have launched an intimidation campaign against lawmakers of the ruling MAS party, which controls a vast majority of senate seats,

Pink Razors, Manly Beer, And Lady Backpacks - The Folly Of Gendered Products
As women started counting steps and walking to work wearing running shoes and fitness trackers, there was one work-related item that had to change: the briefcase. It’s not suited to walking fast and gets in the way of drinking coffee en route to the office. Enter the working women’s backpack. It’s a trend. *The Atlantic* announced that this is the year professional women started wearing backpacks, even though some of us swear it’s been going on for a while. The sale of women’s backpacks is up by more than 20 per cent in the past year, but the sale of men’s backpacks has flat-lined... more »

The proxies of Iran and Syria in Lebanon, after years of solidarity, show tentative signs of diverging. With even Shia protesters on the street, and with Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah’s calls to disperse unheeded, Hezbollah’s façade of invincibility is showing cracks. GOP VOTERS DON'T BELIEVE THERE WERE ANY ACTUAL AMERICANS IN THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FOR NEARLY THIRTY YEARS
Frank Bruni makes an obvious point: ... this week, as several longtime civil servants testify at the inquiry’s first public hearings, a ... narrative demands notice.... FTC Cracks Down On Edu-Influencers
One of the small tricks that education marketers have developed is to enlist teachers as brand ambassadors. Teachers are, after all, the voices most often trusted by other teachers, so it's got to be a real boost if you can get Mrs. Teachwell to tout your product on Twitter or Instagram or Pinterest. And the beauty of it is that Mrs. Teachwell may come cheap-- some free product, box of pens, maybe even some actual money. It's a fuzzy ethical line; do teachers who accept some sort of marketing deal compromise their professional judgment? On the other hand, if you find an edu-product ... more »
