Will Congressional Republicans Suffer From Trump's Disastrous And Pig-Headed Trade Policies?

DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 13 hours ago
In the last post, we looked at how Republican chances to hold onto Congress continue to collapse, largely because of who leads their party. That post was about his failures in regard to Russia. But the trade war he's provoked might be much worse for the GOP. *Politico* reporter Megan Cassella pointed out the bad timing of his trade policies and how they will be impacting consumers as they head to the polls. "Market analysts, industry experts and economists warn," she wrote, "the economic fallout of the president’s tariffs could peak around election time." A few weeks ago we focuss... more »

How To Gamify Getting A Tenure Track Job

News Staff at Science 2.0 blogs - 14 hours ago
If you are up for a job, and four other candidates are weak, your chances are obviously better than if four other candidates are strong. In the World Cup just completed, statistically there will always be a 'Group of Death", wherein a round-robin group will have three strong teams but only two can advance, meaning a world-class squad will be eliminated. Poker players know to bet low when the odds are only modestly better and to bet high when the statistics show the cards in hand are strong. Timing matters, in jobs, in games, in lots of things. read more

There have been fluctuations in Iraq’s security situation week to week and July 8-14 was one of those down times. There were just 44 incidents during the week, which was on the low end. Charlie Savage of *The New York Times* seems baffled by the outcome of the FISA document release: When President Trump declassified a memo by House Republicans in February that portrayed the surveillance of a former campaign adviser as scandalous, his motivation was clear: to give congressional allies and conservative commentators another avenue to paint the Justice Department’s investigation into Russian election interference as tainted from the start. Researchers Discover A Quadrillion Tons of Diamonds in Earth’s Deep Crust

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 21 hours ago
[image: (Credit: RTImages/Shutterstock)] I made a conjecture which i published here in my blog back in 2007 that we would find a layer of liquid carbon down 100 miles. If the Earth turns out to be hollow, i no longer need a thin carbon layer but i still need pools of liquid carbon to properly explain the behavior of diamond pipes which literally rocket to the surface at a respectable seventy miles per hour.. Now we are proving up the existence of all that carbon. It the Earth turns out to be hollow, then the shell must be at least two hundred mile thick which tends to conform wit... more »

Ringmakers of Saturn preface

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 21 hours ago
I am working through this book in small enough bites in order to review each piece of evidence. The primary claim is that the rings are been made by machines. They are huge and if true represents space technology of a high order. It has not been seen, but such craft or devices will also need to be able to dive into the atmosphere in order to collect material. We also have the authors substantial resume and he certainly must be listened to carefully. At the time of publication this was the best explanation. Further information has now been forthcoming for the usual reason... more »

Toronto shooting: Deadly attack in Greektown district per BBC News

Not a sheep at Not a sheep - 22 hours ago
This BBC report https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-44919771 is happy to identify the colour of the attacker 'White', I don't recall the BBC being as happy when the perpetrator is of a darker hue. Of course this might be down to the Canadian authorities being happy to be clear that white men are generally bad.

A Blueprint for World War III: NATO's Plan to Crush the Soviet Union in Battle

Robert Farley at Test Feed Using Fields - 22 hours ago
*Robert Farley* *Security, Europe* Inside what would have been hell on Earth. *Last but not least, NATO had missile options if the conflict went nuclear. The combination of the Pershing II ballistic missile and the Tomahawk ground-launched cruise missile meant that the United States could deliver tactical nuclear strikes all along the depth of the Warsaw Pact position (and indeed, deep into the Soviet Union) before the Soviets had any idea of what was going on. While both the Americans and the Soviets had, by the 1980s, come to the conclusion that a general war could remain conv... more »

The Wasp missile is designed to be launched in groups against massed armor formations.] Specifically, the Soviet war planners (rightly) anticipated that the United States and its allies would resort to the massive use of nuclear weapons early in the conflict. As a result, they hoped to preempt their use... *As Dwight Eisenhower—who is often mischaracterized as believing that ... more »

Weller 100 years ago. I don't do the twitter thing but I suppose that it might work for that as well. Certainly the sentiment works regardless of how it is conveyed. The fact is that Donald Trump would have been a bad man 100 years ago or at any time in our history. We already know he would have sided with the Confederacy and, going back further, his mental doppelganger Mad King George ... more »

Is Damascus Getting Ready To Cut A Deal With The Kurds?

Andrew KORYBKO at OrientalReview.org - 22 hours ago
It could be presented as a brave decision on the authorities’ behalf to inject a fresh impetus into the interconnected constitutional reform and peace processes. Framing this move in such a way could even earn Damascus international praise from the West and inch it closer to possible sanctions relief if a comprehensive deal is struck for ending the war. The headlines about the new YouGov poll for *The Times* is bizarre. 38% of respondents prefer a further right government-- so Boris Johnson rather than Theresa May. OK, so 62% don't? And 24% of respondents are out-right racists. Ummm... so 76% aren't? Yet the headlines are all about the right-wing loons. Why not about how a new referendum on Brexit would come up with 54% remaining and 46% wanting to leave. Odd. The Manson stayed at the Barker Ranch, in the mountains, southeast of Ballarat, sacrificing, etc. One of the girls, rather than be raped and sacrificed to Satan, ran down the mountain while the rest of the "family" was sleeping and made it to Ballarat. The sheriffs were called and Charlie's Power Wagon has been there ever since.

If we surrendered to earth's intelligence we could rise up rooted, like trees. Instead we entangle ourselves in knots of our own making and struggle, lonely and confused.
