Commentary, Analysis, And Reaction To The Coup In Zimbabwe

War News Updates Editor at War News Updates - 14 hours ago
*Leonid Bershidsky, Bloomberg:* *Zimbabwe's Coup Is Nothing to Celebrate* But there is a valuable lesson for other dictators looking to hold onto power. As leader of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe has survived longer than Stalin in the Soviet Union and Mao in China. If it's coming to an end -- which seems likely given his apparent inability to emerge from house arrest after the military took charge -- it's worth reflecting on the mistakes he made to end such a remarkable run. If you've never heard of the Coandă effect . . .

Peter at Bayou Renaissance Man - 17 hours ago
. . . it's how this plane flies. The Coandă effect (named for its discoverer) is the way in which a jet of air (or, for that matter, water) will travel over the surfaces adjacent to it, whether they're straight or curved. This allows an aircraft utilizing the effect to direct air from its engines across the curved surface of its wing, providing greater lift at low speeds, which in turn shortens the takeoff and landing speed significantly. The 1970's experimental Boeing YC-14 used the effect to . . . well, to good effect! The Boeing's competitor at the time, the McDonnell Do... more »

FACT: In July 1950, North Korea Defeated the U.S. Army (Could It Happen Again?)

Michael Peck at The National Interest - 17 hours ago
*Michael Peck* *Security, Asia* A history lesson. *What happened next seems inevitable in hindsight. The U.S. howitzers had HEAT antitank rounds, but only a few, and too few to stop the North Korean tanks from overrunning the American positions. The tank assault should have been repulsed by Task Force Smith’s bazookas, except that the rockets couldn’t penetrate the armor of the Soviet-made vehicles.* In July 1950, North Korea defeated the United States Army. This wasn’t supposed to happen. In the summer of 1950, America was still savoring the glow of absolute victory in World W... more »

Washington and the McCarthy Era Part II

A Political Junkie at Viable Opposition - 20 hours ago
A recent release from WikiLeaks received almost no traction in the global mainstream media, however, this release provides us with an inside look at how the Central Intelligence Agency uses its own malware to impersonate a key Russian cybersecurity company. This subject is particularly pertinent given Washington's obsession with all things Russian since the alleged hacking of the 2016 U.S. presidential election. According to the documents released by Wikileaks, "*Hive*" is a major component of the CIA's infrastructure to control its malware which is used to hack, record and even co... more »

Fires, and fighting them

Peter at Bayou Renaissance Man - 21 hours ago
I've had the misfortune to be caught in two building fires. One was in a military barracks in South Africa, back in the 1970's. Over a hundred of us had to make our way through smoke-filled corridors to the emergency exits at either end of the building, because the genius (genii?) who designed it had failed to specify windows with openings (or panes of glass) large enough for people to escape through them. After it was all over, and we'd stopped hacking up our lungs from smoke inhalation, a lot of us expressed quite vehement opinions about that. The second was in Louisiana in 20... more »

*November 15, 2017* (Tony Cartalucci - NEO) - In an article by Thai PBS titled, "US cuts 2018 funding for demining operations in Cambodia," it's revealed that next year's meager $2 million in US government funding for demining operations of US unexploded ordnance (UXO) in eastern Cambodia leftover from the Vietnam War has been discontinued without warning or explanation. Donald Trump is on track to have told a whopping 2,000 falsehoods during his first year in office.

Courtesy of WaPo: *For some reason, our year-long project analyzing, categorizing and tracking every false or misleading claim by President Trump had seemed like quite a burden in the past month. Well, the numbers are in and now we know why: In the past 35 days, Trump has averaged an astonishing nine claims a day. * *The total now stands at 1,628 claims in 298 days, or an average of 5.5 claims a day. *Château de Peyrelade* dates back to at least the 12th-century. Objects discovered in this area date back to prehistoric times. (YouTube Tour) There are some who dispute the value of a compound. However, history shows that it's better to be hard than soft. And it's better that people don't know precisely where you are or what your defensive measures are -- until it's too late. I do not argue that entropy takes everything that we are and everything that we build. That's obvious.

It goes almost without saying that the unique nature of the moon as a tool for Terraforming Earth, and humanities prior high civilization prior to the Pleistocene Nonconformity 12950 BP makes a physical presence a near certainty. The fact is that women in mass have now given themselves permission to confront these men in the one arena they cannot control which is public opinion. This is capable of shifting the whole public narritve into the hands of the victims. It is messy and of course justice will often not be done as we will also get faux victims along with the legitimate. Yet it now adds another level of risk that deters. These men need to be deterred. Perhaps it can better be described as a hormonal effect. As in who asks for an erection in a social situation? The challenge is to hold our cognitive self aside in order to manage the effects.
