Tal Afar Battle Day 6

Joel Wing at MUSINGS ON IRAQ - 13 hours ago
On the sixth day of the Tal Afar offensive the three fronts attacking the town all met. The two thrusts from in the west met up with the southern push. That was accomplished by taking Nida, Khadra, Saad, Talaa, and Nasr. In the process, the entire Mahalabiyadistrict was liberated. The Federal Police seizeda town outside Tal Afar as well. By the end of the day just over half of the town was in government hands. The fighting should be over in just a few days, and then mopping up operations should take place to clear up the towns that were bypassed in the charge to get to Tal Afar. ... more »

One Way to End Drug War Violence

[image: undefined] Two police officers in Kissimmee, Florida, were recently shot and killed while investigating illegal drug activity in a dangerous part of town. According to the New York Times, government officials praised the officers for their service and asked Floridians to pray for other law-enforcement personnel. President Trump weighed in with a tweet in which he offered his thoughts and prayers for the Kissimmee police and their families. There is one big thing about that picture, however: It is the drug war itself, which Trump and, no doubt, most of the Kissimmee police de... more »

DIY Genius *Seán Carnew & Jason Furlong, RCD/US Naval Institute*: *Social Media is a Weapon* Social media has grown into a disruptive technology that must be considered by militaries and governments. Technological innovations that become disruptive can go unnoticed at the time of their emergence. In hindsight, it may seem obvious they would result in fundamental changes.
