A Look At How General Mattis Will Run The Pentagon

War News Updates Editor at War News Updates - 40 minutes ago
*CNN*: *Inside the mind of 'Mad Dog' Mattis* (CNN)In picking Gen. Jim Mattis, President-elect Donald Trump said Thursday night that he has found his "Gen. George Patton." Yet that label may not really capture what makes Mattis a distinctive choice. Mattis has been sharply critical of President Barack Obama's policies on Iran, and Obama's capping of troop numbers and campaign end-dates in theaters of war such as Afghanistan and Iraq. Mattis also appears to be a skeptic of the Obama-era policy of putting women into combat roles. Mattis, 66, is a storied retired Marine general be... more »

Shale Oil Is OPEC's Greatest Threat

War News Updates Editor at War News Updates - 1 hour ago
*Reuters*: *Leaner and meaner: U.S. shale greater threat to OPEC after oil price war* NEW YORK/HOUSTON In a corner of the prolific Bakken shale play in North Dakota, oil companies can now pump crude at a price almost as low as that enjoyed by OPEC giants Iran and Iraq. Until a few years ago it was unprofitable to produce oil from shale in the United States. The steep slide in costs could encourage more U.S. shale output if OPEC members cut supplies, undermining the producer group's ability to boost prices. OPEC ministers meet Wednesday to weigh output cuts to end a two-year glut ... more »

Will France Be The Next Democracy To Fall Into The Grasp Of Neo-Fascists?

DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 1 hour ago
About a week ago we looked at the upcoming French presidential elections from the perspective of the primary of the center-right party, Les Républicains, which have since had their run-off and selected the further right of the two party front-runners, François Fillon. The betting is now that Fillon will eventually face neo-fascist leader Marine Le Pen. But what about the Socialists, you wonder? French conventional wisdom is that they've made a hash of governing and stand no chance. In fact, this week their standard bearer, President François Hollande, announced that he won't seek ... more »

By John Pilger When I first went to Hiroshima in 1967, the shadow on the steps was still there. It was an almost perfect impression of a human being at ease: legs splayed, back bent, one hand by her side as she sat waiting for a bank to open. At a quarter past eight on the morning of 6 August, 1945, she and her silhouette were burned into the granite. I stared at the shadow for an hour or more, unforgettably. The news continues to be better and better by the day as the so called "rebels" are almost out of both food and ammunition and are in fact days from either surrendering or being destroyed.... Right now, I want to present a great article from the Southfront website, at www.southfront.org, that shows the steady progress made by the good guys against these murderous mercenaries still ... more »

Northerntruthseeker at Northerntruthseeker - 1 day ago
*I am back.... I am finally feeling so much better than I had earlier this week... Honestly, I HATE being sick and I do everything possible to fight off all colds/infections/headaches/etc by using a lot of natural methods... I try to avoid the concoctions sold to us as "medicine" most times and absolutely do NOT ever and I do mean EVER allow quacks to inject their poisonous vaccines into my body... But every once in a while I come in contact with someone that has a severe illness, such as my own son when he came down with the flu last weekend, and eventually it does get into my own ... more »

Josh Groban, “Gira Con Me Questa Notte” - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0brPexjPrk English Lyrics: "Gira Con Me Questa Notte" "Turn With Me Tonight" "The world turns with me tonight. Small steps that I make with you. I follow your heart, and I follow the moon So hidden far from me. The world turns with us tonight, Ah, if only far from here there existed A place where to discover my heart, To know if it can love you or not. And it will turn, and it will turn, My heart together with you, And the earth will turn, And my life will turn, And one day, yes, it will understand. It's you wh... more »

How Much Of A Scam Was Trump's Carrier Announcement Yesterday?

DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 1 day ago
*"Trump, who lost the popular vote, has now sent the message it is open season for massive corporations to seek specialized tax breaks from the incoming Administration. This is crony capitalism at its worst. Trump is not only failing to drain the swamp, he is fertilizing the swamp."* -Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) In reference to what Gaius was talking about this morning, let's look at some of the fallout from Trump's Carrier announcement. The first time I ever heard about Carrier announcing they would move their plant from Indiana to Mexico was when Bernie started campaigning on it-- loudl... more »

"A Look to the Heavens"

"These are galaxies of the Hercules Cluster, an archipelago of island universes a mere 500 million light-years away. Also known as Abell 2151, this cluster is loaded with gas and dust rich, star-forming spiral galaxies but has relatively few elliptical galaxies, which lack gas and dust and the associated newborn stars. The colors in this remarkably deep composite image clearly show the star forming galaxies with a blue tint and galaxies with older stellar populations with a yellowish cast. *Click image for larger size.* The sharp picture spans about 3/4 degree across the cluster cent... more »

Bertrand Russell, "Three Passions"

*"Three Passions" * "Three passions have governed my life: The longings for love, the search for knowledge, And unbearable pity for the suffering of humankind. Love brings ecstasy and relieves loneliness. In the union of love I have seen In a mystic miniature the prefiguring vision Of the heavens that saints and poets have imagined. With equal passion I have sought knowledge. I have wished to understand the hearts of people. I have wished to know why the stars shine. Love and knowledge led upwards to the heavens, But always pity brought me back to earth; Cries of pain reverberated in ... more »

“The Individual vs. The Illusion Of Consensus Reality”

noreply@blogger.com (Coyote Prime) at Running 'Cause I Can't Fly - 1 day ago
*“The Individual vs. The Illusion Of Consensus Reality”* by Jon Rappoport “This is such a supercharged subject, I could start from a dozen places. But let’s begin here: the individual is unique, because he is he. He is unique because he has his own ideas, because he has his own desires, because he has his own power. That power belongs to no one else. In particular, it doesn’t belong to the State. The State will try, will always try to suggest that it is granting power to the individual, but this is a lie. It’s an illusion broadcast with ill-intent. While everyone else is trying to... more »

Chet Raymo, "It"

noreply@blogger.com (Coyote Prime) at Running 'Cause I Can't Fly - 1 day ago
*"It"* by Chet Raymo "A Howard Nemerov poem might be twelve pages long or twelve words long. He was equally adept at the epic and the aphorism. He could be serious or fun. Sometimes both at the same time. Consider the following poem, called "A Life," which I quote in its entirety. (How does "fair use" apply to something so short?) "Innocence? In a sense. In no sense! Was that *it?* Was *that* it? *Was* that it? That was it." Now I hear my spouse's voice whispering in my ear: *What's all this musing about death lately? Why all this late-life pessimism?
