Capitalism Is the Real Information War
In the foreword to Last Dance, Last Chance, Ann Rule meditates on the nature of liars. “Once a lie is successful,” she says, “it grows and multiplies, burnished and perfected until it works every time. It’s a sad irony that the more honest a potential victim is, the more innocent, the more likely such a person is to become prey. Honest people don’t expect to be lied to, because they wouldn’t lie to someone else. That doesn’t matter at all to dedicated liars. They only smile.” As a true-crime writer, Rule was talking about murderers, kidnappers, and other violent offenders. But she c... read more

Language over abortion is clearly tricky, especially if you're broadcaster like the BBC with commitments to impartiality on such issues. The BBC News website report *Roe v Wade: The world reacts to US abortion ruling*, first published on Saturday, really went out of its way to cover all bases. It used 'pro-abortion' and 'pro-choice' and 'reproductive rights' campaigners' and 'gender justice activists' for one side and 'anti-abortion' and 'pro-life' for the other side. Suddenly today one of those phrases was removed and replaced...and I bet you can guess which one [click to enlarge].... read more

* A Supreme win for school choice* In a win for parents and school-choice advocates, the US Supreme Court overturned a Maine law Tuesday that denied religious schools access to state tuition assistance available to students attending secular private institutions. Maine created the program to give options to kids living in areas without public schools — but excluded faith-based institutions from those options. The high court ruled 6-3 that the prohibition “penalizes the free exercise” of religion in Maine by excluding “otherwise eligible schools on the basis of their religious exe... read more

Self Ownership, Obamacare, and Abortion Rights
The Supreme Court has noted that abortion is not mentioned in the U. S. Constitution. It is not. Neither is it mentioned explicitly that every individual owns his or her own life. Yet those rights acknowledged explicitly in the Constitution in the First and Second Amendments would seem to have a basis in an assumption that every individual owns his or her own life. The right to self-ownership is surely one of the rights that was meant to be protected by the Ninth Amendment. "The enumeration in the Constitution of certain rights shall not be construed to deny or disparage othe... read more

Julie Burchill is such a good writer. She's written a brilliantly funny piece about Glastonbury for *The Spectator*. There's even a passage about the BBC: Though I don’t like festivals in general because of their subterranean standards of hygiene, Glasto is more irritating than all others because of its political pretensions. Its symbiotic relationship with the similarly Palestine-pandering, Brexit-hating BBC is a notable one, to the extent that it appears to be the foremost annual works outing; before Covid they sent a whopping 300 staff there, more than they did to the World Cup.... read more

Unknown 'Sloth-Like' Creature Observed Near San Jose, California
We have had no reports describing the Giant Sloth in which it is using its limbs like a four legged animal. How Black Holes Nearly Ruined Time
As if anyone understood time let alone TIME. More interesting is my conjecture that nothing passes through the event horizon except to top up the supply. After all the surface is not smooth at all and certainly not mathematically smooth. The rest is torn apart and converted back to photonic form and is then carried off away from the event. Just how do plasma jets get created? If material would never look like they do. They are a bolt of photonic energy carrying off information and then along the way often decaying back into the particle form and then decaying to produce light w... read more
