Krugman: Inflation Notes

Earlier this year I shared the view with Hugh Hendry that the UK was (is) going through a soft-patch and that, the headline and core inflation numbers are somewhat distorted and would likely come down as some time passed, with austerity kicking in, global deceleration in growth and the base effect of tax hikes and energy price shock.
All in all, the UK is still on the asset purchase strings and the last 2 quarters brought 0% growth in total.

Attacking Central Bank Independence

Quantitative Easing 2, the Federal Reserve policy of holding interest rates down by purchasing Treasury securities with newly created money, is much more than a dramatically expansionary monetary policy.
It also should be seen as a response to increasing political pressure from Congress, exhibited through recent appointment scuffles, the assignment of new regulatory responsibilities under last year’s Dodd-Frank law and increased scrutiny through a series of congressional oversight hearings.

Comments

Please use the comments to demonstrate your own ignorance, unfamiliarity with empirical data, ability to repeat discredited memes, and lack of respect for scientific knowledge. Also, be sure to create straw men and argue against things I have neither said nor even implied. Any irrelevancies you can mention will also be appreciated. Lastly, kindly forgo all civility in your discourse . . . you are, after all, anonymous.

"lack of respect for scientific knowledge."
People must take classes in using this trope, standard in 'Denierism' framing for Anthropogenic Global Warming and any other meme to be inserted in the global consciousness... despite protests that 'scientific knowledge' is not social conditioning or self-reinforcing of opinion in an echo chamber. Yet valid reaction against perversion of 'debate' into irrelevancies and false claims is evident. Hmmm.
You'd almost think that the independence of a private bank which makes decisions in secret by players whose acts are not transparent was threatened by players whose whole existence in politics depends on banking's largesse....an unlikely situation indeed.

Propaganda

I recently saw a banner advertisement that warned me Congress was going to raise my costs for using payment cards. The implication of this dire warning was that sneaky politicians were going to levy a new tax or fee. My potential outrage turned to the more calming smile when I realized it was banking propaganda.

Twitter Accounts as Brands: The OMGFacts Lawsuit

Because social media accounts are so often opened under personal names, right of publicity issues are more likely to crop up than they would be in traditional media outlets.  The democratization of publishing that social media has ushered in will make the resulting litigation that much more complex.  Online businesses would do well to think of themselves as businesses from the beginning, and to govern themselves accordingly.

( Do you see why social networking of Bookmarks took off ? I think Diigo  Search - which includes content on my computer - results are good fun. Yet I tend to ignore them and places like Clipmarks and StumbleUpon...unless I want to flash some content to fellow members. My Twitter feed of Delicious Bookmarks is the one that gets action that I can track ( I haven't started a Twitter newsblog yet ), along with news entries on Care2 and Current TV.

My family is appalled at my use of Facebook as a content aggregator rather than a social networking / personal site.  :)    )
