Where Are The Conservatives?

Unknown at The Verma Report - 16 hours ago
The irony is that the global lockdown has been imposed when the major democracies are under conservative rule: the USA, the UK, Japan, India, Brazil, and a few others. I wonder what the conservative reaction would be if the lockdown was imposed when these democracies were under liberal control—I can imagine the conservatives criticizing the liberals in TV interviews and newspaper articles, accusing them of grossly overreacting to a mere flu virus, decrying the lockdown orders, leading protest marches on the streets, and doing all they can to drive into the mind of the voters that th... more »

Trump Has Failed America-- Badly-- So It Would Be Nice If The Democratic Party Stepped Up To The Plate For The Country

*Die For Him Granpa by Nancy Ohanian* Frank Bruni's question-- Has Anyone Found Trump’s Soul? Anyone? in his Monday column seemed cheeky-- until you read it. Then he asked "Do you remember the moment when President Trump’s bearing and words made clear that he grasped not only the magnitude of this rapidly metastasizing pandemic but also our terror in the face of i... more »

Rescuing the economy: Where money comes from, and what it does

Peter at Bayou Renaissance Man - 16 hours ago
I've noticed a number of articles and comments around the blogosphere talking about government economic relief programs for the coronavirus pandemic. Many of them claim that the government is "printing money" to deal with this crisis, and that this will inevitably bounce back on the "real" economy when the crisis is over. In one sense they're right, but in another they're wrong. Money itself isn't the problem - it's how it's generated and used. In order to clarify the situation, I thought two 2014 articles in Adobe Acrobat format from the Bank of England might be useful. They e... more »

Raytheon's TOW Missiles: 700,000 and Counting

The BGM-71 TOW ("Tube-launched, Optically tracked, Wire-guided) anti-tank missile will remain in the U.S. Army's anti-tank arsenal through the mid-2030s. Why the Coronavirus Crisis Is Not the Same as the 2008 Financial Crisis

Michael Yaziji at The National Interest - 17 hours ago
*Michael Yaziji* *Economics, World* [image: Reuters] Therefore, the policies used this time should not be the same. As coronavirus spreads across the world, politicians are confusing the current economic situation with a recession. The current decline in production and employment is not due to declining demand or supply, as is normally the case in a recession spiral. Rather, it is because governments are shutting down vast swathes of the economy. It is their reactive policies which will take us into a recession that we can avoid. An extreme hypothetical example will help clari... more »

HMS Dreadnought Made All Other Battleships Obsolete

*Peter Suciu* *Security, Europe* It wasn't simply enough to have the largest fleet; the Royal Navy needed the finest and most powerful warships. Prior to the First World War, Great Britain was the dominant naval power in the world. Evolution and the CREATION OF TYPES

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 18 hours ago
This follows from the item on Genesis as History. It is that we can discern types in our biology. An example of a type is CAT. What is clear is that a TYPE can respond to the environ, ment in order to produce adaptations to local conditions. Our own expereince with DOG breeding during just the past few centuries makes all this abundently clear. TYPEs running wild will happily produce multiple versions and even giants as well. Yet a wolf running wild will converge on the best type for the boreal forest in particular. The TYPE will occupy a particular niche and then self mod... more »

This geologist nicely makes the case for castrophic alteration of the global surface. The most critical arguement that must be understood is that all forms of layering must be quick. There are exceptions of course, but they must also be exceptional rather than the other way around. What is generally not plausible is uniform smooth plane production above sea level. All of that is exposed to catastrophic water and wind action literally day after day. Yet we see sedimentary stacks whose interfaces are smooth and even if formed in the ocean are subject to variable stacking. A... more »
