One Little Word for 2013

Fearless. In 2013, I want to be Fearless. So many times I have let fear dictate my life. It has kept me from doing something things and almost paralyzed me into not doing other things. Fear almost kept me from going to my first blogger event in 2012 and I am so glad it didn't. The blogger community is an incredible thing to be apart of. Something I wouldn't miss for the world. Fear often keeps me from driving. I never know when a migraine is going to hit and so I just don't go anywhere. I let fear trap me. I know it is impossible to actually be fearless for 2013, so the goal is ... more »

Christmas Notes 8: The 12 Days of Christmas

Nonoy Oplas at Government and Taxes - 8 hours ago
During the Christmas Party of the DLSU Political Science Department faculty members and staff middle oif this month, I sang this during the Karaoke and singing session. My wife teaches at the department. Many if not all faculty members there are pro-RH bill, now a law, so note the 5th day -- satire for me, not a praise :-) *The 12 Days of Christmas* On the __ day of Christmas government said to me: 1st -- More taxes to pay public debt. 2nd -- More borrowings, and 3rd -- P2 trillion budget... 2013 New Year Celebrations - have we won the war yet?

So, all this hard-earned money you were encouraged to spend on booze and news and fireworks and such last night ... I mean, other than the Earth turning once more and another New Dawn rising upon an enslaved populace, what are we celebrating? Have we won the Corporate War against You The People yet? Have we realised that THIS WORLD EXISTS so that food, shelter and water are Free? Have we realised that our success, as a gormlessly Economic Race, means that thousands of innocents classed as Collateral Damage in the global RISK game die every second in the name of Profit? Nope, it's... more »

Netflix customers' ENTIRE movie rental history to be shared with Facebook...

Lynsey at The Coming Crisis - 8 hours ago
Netflix users will soon be able to share every film they have watched with their Facebook friends - allowing the social networking giant even more lucrative information on its users' leisure time. Up until now the Video Privacy Protection Act prohibited Netflix and other streaming services such as Hulu from sharing their customers' history or allowing them to post it themselves. However, Congress has now passed a bill to the 1988 act that allows users to opt in or out of forthcoming Facebook 'social sharing' features, which let advertisers reach customers who watch movies on the st... more »

Brussels plot to make Britain a second-class member of the EU denying country our veto and MEP seats

Lynsey at The Coming Crisis - 8 hours ago
Britain could become a ‘second-class’ member of the European Union under plans floated in Brussels yesterday. An influential group of European federalists, who want to see Brussels given even greater powers, is suggesting the UK is relegated to ‘associate member’ status. The move would see Britain remain part of the single market but freed from much of the social legislation and bureaucracy associated with full EU membership. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2255217/EU-offer-second-class-membership-stop-Britain-leaving-altogether.html

EU super-government Monumental deceit: How our politicians have lied and lied about the true purpose of the European behemoth

Lynsey at The Coming Crisis - 8 hours ago
Forty years ago today, in what was arguably the most fateful political move ever made by a British Prime Minister, Edward Heath took us into what was then called the ‘Common Market’. Such a step had scarcely been mentioned at the previous General Election, and the British people had very little idea of what they were letting themselves in for, other than a trading arrangement that might make it easier for us to sell our goods to our Continental neighbours. Four decades later, the picture could scarcely look more different. We have seen that supposedly cosy club we joined transformed... more »

UK 'faces a 50-50 risk of suffering triple-dip recession' say economists as they warn of eurozone risk

Lynsey at The Coming Crisis - 8 hours ago
There is a 50:50 chance that Britain will slide into a devastating triple-dip recession this year, leading economists warn today. Output ‘probably’ fell in the final three months of 2012 and could do so again in the first three months of 2013, said the Centre for Economics and Business Research. Another two quarters of decline in a row would mean the third recession in five years and set the scene for another bleak year. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2255547/UK-faces-50-50-risk-suffering-triple-dip-recession-say-economists-warn-eurozone-risk.html

Think tank warns 2013 could see a repeat of poor economic growth and financial crisis in Europe.

Lynsey at The Coming Crisis - 9 hours ago
A think tank has warned that 2013 could turn out to be a "groundhog year" with a repeat of sluggish growth and crisis in Europe seen in 2012. The Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) said that consumer and business spirits have been so thoroughly dampened by talk of years of austerity ahead that the economy mail fail to grown again this year. In a gloomy New Year message, IPPR chief economist Tony Dolphin said the Government "still does not have a path back to growth" and appeared to be pinning hopes on "something just turning up". http://news.sky.com/story/1032017/think-tan... more »

Ball Lightening Clarified

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 9 hours ago
This actually works. Such a mass of heavy ions would have a natural channel to follow down to the ground generated by the lightening stroke itself and this would even draw it down and likely shape its dimensionality. We have all naturally presumed that ball lightening consisted of a blob of electrons but that never made any sense at all. Mass confinement is certainly sufficient to allow a twenty second dwell time. This problem has been kicking around forever and every high school physics student knows of its existence. Bravo! *Goodness, Gracious, Great Balls of Lightn... more »

This is a post from the author Graham Hancock on his Face book account. What is useful here is that he lays out the importance of 3114 BC as a calender start point. The Mayans were mathematically driven ans earlier start points may have astronomical significance that locked in other start points, but having a recent start point is natural for a rising civilization. After all we did just that for our start point 2000 years ago. At the same time one can expect such a start point to be well enough back so as to not foul up the record keeping and normally five hundred years w... more »

Immaculate Conception to Genetic Deception

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 9 hours ago
The fundamental problem with spiritual guidance is that there is generally no guidance. You are asked to go figure it out for yourself and what is provided anyway is far too unwittingly self serving. On your own it is way to easy to read personal prejudices into spiritual texts long before it is possible to grasp a different state of being. You must not only read the words but at the same time shift your perspective. Good luck when I can attest that there is little that is more difficult. I crafted a manuscript titled Paradigms Shift in which I change the intellectual fram... more »

President rejects his bipartisan commission

Greg Mankiw at Greg Mankiw's Blog - 10 hours ago
The fiscal deal struck last night makes one thing clear: President Obama must have really hated the recommendations of the bipartisan Bowles-Simpson commission that he appointed. The commission said that we needed to reform entitlement programs to rein in spending and that increased tax revenue should come in the form of base broadening and lower marginal tax rates. The deal appears to offer no entitlement reforms, no tax reform, and higher marginal tax rates. After all the public discussion over the past couple years of what a good fiscal reform would like like, it is hard to imagi... more »

Never make predictions in the Middle East. My crystal ball broke long ago. But predicting the region has an honourable pedigree. “An Arab movement, newly-risen, is looming in the distance,” a French traveller to the Gulf and Baghdad wrote in 1883, “and a race hitherto downtrodden will presently claim its due place in the destinies of Islam.” A year earlier, a British diplomat in Jeddah confided that “it is within my knowledge... that the idea of freedom does at present agitate some minds even in Mecca...” So let’s say this for 2013: the “Arab Awakening” (the title of George Antonius... more »

Kenya hospital imprisons new mothers with no money (Coming to an America near you)

Matt at The Coming Crisis - 13 hours ago
The director of the Pumwani Maternity Hospital, located in a hardscrabble neighborhood of downtown Nairobi, freely acknowledges that he detains mothers who can't pay their bills. Lazarus Omondi says it's the only way he can keep his medical center running. Now, a New York-based group filed a lawsuit this month in hopes of forcing Pumwani to stop the practice. Two mothers who live in a mud-wall and tin-roof slum near the maternity hospital said Pumwani wouldn't let them leave after delivering their babies. The bills the mothers couldn't afford were $60 and $160. Guards with sticks w... more »

Iran test-fires missiles near Strait of Hormuz

Matt at The Coming Crisis - 13 hours ago
Iran's navy says it has test-fired a range of weapons during ongoing maneuvers near the Strait of Hormuz, the passageway for one-fifth of the world's oil supply. The Monday report by the official IRNA news agency quotes exercise spokesman Adm. Amir Rastgari as saying the Iranian-made air defense system Raad, or Thunder, was among the weapons tested. Iran says the system fires missiles with a range of 50 kilometers (30 miles), capable of hitting targets at 22,000 meters (75,000 feet). He said torpedoes and underwater and surface-to-surface rockets were also successfully tested. h... more »
